I was actually planning to write about my Beijing trip first, but with the upcoming May holidays, I've had a lot of questions about Universal Studios Japan (USJ) VIP experiences in Osaka. So, today, I'm diving into my personal review and recommendations for USJ's VIP options, along with details on purchasing tickets and pricing.
Universal Studios Japan, Osaka
📍 Universal Studios Japan

Universal Studios Japan, located in Osaka, holds the distinction of being the first Universal Studios theme park in Asia. It's an incredibly popular destination, often considered a rival to Tokyo Disneyland within Japan.

Beyond being a must-visit Osaka attraction, USJ boasts incredibly popular themed zones like Super Nintendo World, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, and Minion Park. It's no wonder tourists keep flocking here!
Universal Studios Japan Entry Tickets
You can purchase Universal Studios Japan entry tickets from various platforms, as shown below:
| Klook | KKday | Trip.com |
Adult (Ages 12+) | ~$71 | ~$71 | ~$71 |
Child (Ages 4-11) | ~$44 | ~$71 | ~$71 |

*Ticket prices vary by date.
*The prices above are for off-peak season.
While there is an official website, it often redirects to these platforms, and since the Universal Studios Japan entry ticket prices are generally consistent across them, you can simply purchase from whichever platform you're most comfortable using.
Universal Studios Japan Express Pass
While a basic Universal Studios Japan entry ticket gets you through the gates, most visitors opt to purchase an "Express Pass" alongside it. The primary reason? **Waiting in lines!**

As a world-renowned attraction, popular areas and rides at USJ often have incredibly long wait times, even on regular days.

During peak holiday periods, like Japan's Golden Week in May, the crowds swell even further, making wait times astronomical. This is why the "Express Pass," which allows for significantly faster boarding, is so incredibly popular.
Another key reason is **guaranteed entry**.

During seasons with extremely high visitor numbers, popular themed zones like Super Nintendo World can occasionally restrict entry. However, certain Express Pass options include a guaranteed entry ticket for these zones.

In truly unlucky cases, even arriving for park opening (known as "open-run") won't guarantee entry due to overwhelming crowds (a friend of mine experienced this firsthand! 😭). So, for anyone planning to visit on a weekend or during a holiday period, a guaranteed entry ticket for Super Nintendo World is truly invaluable.
+TIP
Recently, Universal Studios Japan has started offering **combo tickets that include guaranteed entry to Super Nintendo World** with your admission ticket, allowing you to secure entry without needing an Express Pass.

Some combo tickets even include a Kansai Joy Pass, making them a fantastic value option for those who want to visit USJ and explore other major Osaka attractions without splurging on an Express Pass.
However, if your main goal is to **"ride as many attractions as possible, as fast as possible!"** then the Universal Express Pass is still your best bet! 🎶

There's a dizzying array of Universal Studios Japan Express Pass options available.

It's impossible to say which option is "the best" as it truly depends on individual preferences. I recommend carefully reviewing each option and choosing the one that includes the rides you're most excited about.
You can also purchase Express Passes through the same platforms. Here, the crucial factor isn't necessarily the price, but rather **speed of purchase**.

*While Trip.com might be slightly pricier for the same dates and options compared to other platforms, they often have more availability. If other sites are sold out for your desired date, check Trip.com.
These tickets are so popular that many travelers find themselves unable to get an Express Pass for their desired date or with their preferred options because they're simply sold out.
So, once your travel dates are set, book your preferred Express Pass option as quickly as possible!
Why You Should Consider Universal Studios Japan VIP Experience

While an Express Pass is great, for those visiting during busy holiday periods, I honestly recommend the VIP experience.

The VIP experience, offered to a limited number of guests each day, starts with a distinctive entrance.

After entering through a dedicated VIP gate, you'll wait in a comfortable lounge, enjoying a cool drink, before meeting your personal escort who will guide you for three hours.
Once you've received a general overview of the park, it's time to head out and conquer the rides together! 🎶

Starting with Jaws, we then moved on to the highly popular Super Nintendo World, riding Donkey Kong, Mario Kart, and Yoshi – a total of four attractions.
Prepare for the Ultimate VIP Treatment!
What are wait times?!
Express Pass holders, step aside!

We didn't stand in a single line. We simply glided through dedicated VIP lanes, zipping past everyone. For someone as impatient as me, it was absolutely priceless!

It was incredibly crowded that day, but I didn't notice a thing – I just enjoyed being first in line! Hehe.
We took breaks between rides, and before I knew it, the three-hour tour was over. But guess what? I still had four Express Pass tickets in my hand! Hooray!

Although I could have spent more time in Super Nintendo World after the tour, I decided to head to Jurassic Park and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. I used my remaining four Universal Studios Japan Express Pass tickets to ride those attractions faster than anyone else!
My VIP tour started at 3:00 PM that day, and by 8:00 PM, I had enjoyed a total of 8 rides over 5 hours. I left the park completely satisfied! 🎶
This clearly sounds like a VIP experience, right? And naturally, you'd assume it's expensive?
But here's the kicker!!!
The VIP experience can actually be MORE cost-effective than an Express Pass!

This is because during peak seasons, the price of an Express Pass can be as high as, or even higher than, the VIP experience itself.
On the day I visited, the Universal Studios Japan Express Pass (including the entry ticket) was around **~$254**, while the VIP experience was in the **~$308** range.
So, who wouldn't choose the VIP experience, which offers no-wait access to Super Nintendo World and so much more, for just a slightly higher cost?

The VIP experience is incredibly popular for those, like me, who want to enjoy Universal Studios Japan in the most comfortable and efficient way possible, so it sells out quickly. Make sure to grab your tickets for your desired dates fast!
At the time, my schedule was so tight that I booked the Universal Studios Japan VIP experience without fully understanding what it entailed, but it turned out to be an absolutely fantastic day.
I would definitely book the VIP experience again without hesitation on my next visit. However, everyone's schedule and preferences are different, so refer to the ticket information I've outlined today to choose the option that best suits you for an amazing time! 🎶

FAQ — USJ Express Pass & VIP Pass (Universal Studios Japan 2026)
What is the USJ VIP Pass and how is it different from the Express Pass?
The USJ VIP Pass is a small-group guided experience that bundles park entry, fast-track access to top attractions, and an English-speaking tour escort. The Express Pass, by contrast, is a self-guided line-skip ticket you use on your own. The VIP option costs significantly more but removes nearly all wait time and the planning load — useful for first-time visitors who don't want to map out the day themselves.
How much does the Universal Studios Japan VIP Pass cost in 2026?
Standard USJ entry is around $71 for adults and $44 for children (off-peak). VIP tour packages are typically several hundred dollars per person on top of admission, with the exact price varying by date and tour type (private vs small-group). Prices climb during Japan's Golden Week, summer holidays, and weekends — always check the live rate at booking time on Klook, KKday, or Trip.com.
Is the USJ VIP Pass worth the price?
It depends on how you weigh time vs money. During Golden Week, summer holidays, or weekends, wait times for Super Nintendo World and Harry Potter routinely exceed 2–3 hours per ride — a VIP tour effectively buys those hours back. For off-peak weekday visits, a regular Express Pass usually gives you enough lane access without paying the VIP premium.
Does the USJ VIP Pass include Super Nintendo World entry?
Yes — guaranteed Super Nintendo World access is one of the headline reasons people upgrade to a VIP tour. Even open-run arrivals at the gate are sometimes turned away from Super Nintendo World on peak days. Note that USJ also sells combo tickets that include Super Nintendo World entry without the full VIP price tag — a middle-ground option for visitors who want the guarantee but not the full guided experience.
Where can I buy the USJ VIP Pass and Express Pass?
Both are available on Klook, KKday, and Trip.com — the same platforms that sell the standard entry ticket. While there is an official USJ website, it generally redirects to these resellers and the prices are consistent across them. For Express Passes, speed of purchase matters more than price — popular dates sell out, so book as soon as your travel dates are confirmed.
What is the difference between Express Pass 4 and Express Pass 7 at USJ?
Express Pass 4 covers fast-track access for 4 selected attractions; Express Pass 7 covers 7. Each version has its own specific ride lineup, so the right choice depends on which attractions you want most — not just the count. Carefully review what each pass includes before buying, especially if your must-rides are in Super Nintendo World or The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
