place in an Osaka trip that's absolutely worth dedicating a full day to is Universal Studios Japan, and it was definitely a highlight of my Osaka travel goals.
Given its massive scale, if it's your first time visiting, it's a great idea to get familiar with everything from the difference between admission and Express Pass tickets to how to use the app and navigate the park map beforehand.
I've put together all the essential info you'll need before heading to Universal Studios: **ticket types, prices, discount coupon details, how to register your ticket, and even how to view the park map using the app.**

1. Admission & Express Pass Prices

To visit Universal Studios Japan in Osaka, you'll need an **admission ticket**.
An admission ticket grants you entry into Universal Studios and allows you to enjoy all the attractions.
Keep in mind, admission ticket prices aren't the same every day; they vary by season, categorized into grades A through F.
The pricing system means that tickets are more expensive on days with higher expected crowds, so it's best to decide on your travel dates first, and then purchase the ticket corresponding to those specific dates.
I've put together a breakdown of September weekend prices by site:
Universal Studios Japan Admission Ticket
Klook | KKday |
~$69 | ~$69 |
The prices are generally the same across the board, but MyRealTrip offers discount coupons, meaning you can snag a ticket for a bit less there.

Next up, let's talk about the essential **Express Pass**
It's not strictly mandatory, but it's a ticket that allows you to bypass long lines and enjoy popular attractions via a fast track, after you've entered the park with your admission ticket.

Admission Ticket: Park Entry + Ride Access
Express Pass: Faster Attraction Access
Now, Express Passes come in different types: **Express 4, 5, and 7**, with the number indicating how many attractions you can use them for.
It's not about freely choosing any 4/5/7 rides you want; instead, you'll need to select one of the pre-arranged sets of attractions.

Newer attractions tend to be more popular and have longer wait times, so it's a smart move to grab an Express Pass that includes **Mario Kart and Donkey Kong's Crazy Tramcar**.
Express Passes that include both of these attractions:
Race & Tramcar Special 5
Tramcar & Jaws 4
Type | Klook | KKday |
Race & Tramcar Special 5 | ~$178 ➡️~$173 | ~$172 |
Tramcar & Jaws 4 | ~$146 ➡️~$141 | ~$172 |
Book Now |
Unlike regular admission tickets, Express Pass prices vary by website.
For the Race & Tram Car Special 5, MyRealTrip offers the lowest price, while for the Tram Car & Jaws 4, Klook is the most affordable.
Applying discount coupons on each site can make them even cheaper.

I found the Express Pass tickets a bit pricey, so I just woke up super early and did an 'open run' to ride all the attractions I wanted.
However, if you're visiting with kids or your parents, waiting 90 to 120 minutes per ride seems incredibly tough.
Honestly, I waited in line for 2 hours for Mario Kart and was completely wiped out.
If you're in your 20s or 30s with plenty of stamina, you might not need an Express Pass. But if you want to save your energy, explore Universal Studios quickly, and spend your morning or afternoon traveling around Osaka, buying an Express Pass is a great option.

2. How to Register Your Admission Ticket

If you've purchased your admission ticket, I highly recommend installing the Universal Studios Japan official app before your trip.
It's a good idea to register your admission ticket in the Universal app beforehand for park entry and Super Nintendo World entry.

To register your admission ticket, tap 'e-Entry Ticket' (e정리권) in the center of the app's main page, then click 'Register Admission Ticket'.
You can either scan the QR code on your ticket or import it from your gallery.

Registering your admission ticket in advance makes it easier to get a Super Nintendo World e-Entry Ticket.
To enter Super Nintendo World, the hottest area at Universal Osaka right now, you need to purchase a ticket that includes a timed entry slot or an Express Pass that includes a Super Nintendo World attraction.
Both of these methods incur additional costs.

The way to enter Super Nintendo World without extra cost is to get into Universal Studios Osaka as early as possible and then obtain an e-Entry Ticket.
You can apply for an e-Entry Ticket after entering the park. Since the quantity is limited per time slot, it's recommended to go as early as possible, or if you're not confident about waking up early, consider buying an Express Pass.
3. Universal Studios Map

Universal Studios Japan in Osaka is quite spacious, so it's more convenient to navigate using a map.
You can view the map on the official app, so it's a good idea to install it beforehand and plan your route before your trip.

You can check your current location, find nearby attractions, and see their wait times.
Moreover, you can filter for convenience facilities like restrooms, locker rentals, and souvenir shops, which is essential for saving energy in a theme park where you'll be doing a lot of walking.

For your reference, Universal Studios' operating hours vary quite a bit by day.
Typically, opening times are almost the same, but closing times can differ by about 30 minutes to an hour depending on the day.

You'll find the operating hours conveniently located right below the main ad on the app. Just tap that section, and a handy site will pop up showing you the daily hours!

According to the article, weekend admission tickets for September are ~$69 on MyRealTrip, Klook, and KKday. However, MyRealTrip offers the most affordable option at ~$69 when a discount coupon is applied.
There are two types of Express Tickets that include both Mario Kart and Donkey Kong's Crazy Tramcar: 'Race & Tramcar Special 5' and 'Tramcar & Jaws 4'. 'Race & Tramcar Special 5' can be purchased most affordably on MyRealTrip for ~$170, and 'Tramcar & Jaws 4' can be purchased most affordably on Klook for ~$141 (with discount applied).
To enter Nintendo World without additional cost, you should enter Universal Studios Japan as early as possible and then obtain an e-numbered ticket (e-seiriken). E-numbered tickets can be requested after entering a ride, and the quantity is limited per time slot.
The operating hours are displayed directly below the main advertisement on the official Universal Studios Japan app. Tapping this section will take you to a site where you can check the daily operating hours.
