Look for the signboard outside the building with a picture of unagi donburi – it makes finding the restaurant much easier!

Inside, you'll find counter seating for about 8-9 people, and there are also table seats further in. My group and I were seated at the counter.
2. Must-Order Menu Items

Unagi Eito's menu primarily features four main types of dishes:
1. Seiro Mushi | Eel steamed in a cypress box, served over rice |
2. Hitsumabushi | Grilled eel rice bowl |
3. Beef & Eel Donburi | A delicious combination of beef and eel over rice |
4. Kids' Menu | Specially designed for children |
Prices vary by size, so check out the details below:
Seiro Mushi prices: ~$24 / ~$29 / ~$34
Hitsumabushi prices: ~$22 / ~$26 / ~$31
I ordered the medium-sized Seiro Mushi, while my companion went for the Hitsumabushi.

After trying both, I personally found the steamed Seiro Mushi to be incredibly tender and flavorful. My companion, however, preferred the grilled Hitsumabushi!

If you prefer a melt-in-your-mouth texture, the Seiro Mushi is your best bet. But if you like a slightly firmer texture with that classic grilled flavor, go for the Hitsumabushi!
3. Reservation and Waiting Tips

This place is incredibly popular, so if you want to skip the wait, I highly recommend making a reservation in advance.
You can easily book a table through the reservation link above. Just select your preferred date, time, and number of guests!
Please note that a ~$1 deposit is required when booking. Don't worry, this amount will be credited back or canceled when you pay at the restaurant, so there's no need to fret!
If you plan to visit on the day without a reservation, your best bet is to either go right when they open (an "open run") or visit during off-peak hours, usually around 3-4 PM.
These times typically have fewer crowds, meaning you won't have to wait long to enjoy your meal!
4. Dining Review

As I mentioned earlier, I ordered the Seiro Mushi, which features eel steamed in a cypress box.
The dish arrived with fluffy rice at the bottom, topped with tender eel and delicate egg. It came with three delicious side dishes and a personal pot of tea for ochazuke, which they prepared for me to pour over the rice later in the meal.

I started with the egg, and it was incredibly soft and smooth. One bite, and I knew I was in for a treat!

Next, I placed a piece of eel on the rice. Because it's steamed, the eel was incredibly tender and **I couldn't feel a single bone**. It was so soft, even kids could easily enjoy it! (A definite thumbs up!)
If you're ordering for children or anyone who prefers a super smooth texture, I highly recommend the Seiro Mushi.
It's a perfect dish for seniors and kids alike, offering a delightful melt-in-your-mouth experience.

My companion's Hitsumabushi definitely had a slightly firmer texture compared to the Seiro Mushi, but it was still incredibly tender and had a wonderful grilled aroma. It was absolutely delicious!
Honestly, Unagi Eito surpassed even the highly-rated unagi restaurants I've tried in Nagoya.
That's how much I consider this my all-time favorite unagi donburi spot in Fukuoka – truly the best taste!

After enjoying about half of the donburi, I loved being able to transform the meal into ochazuke by pouring the hot tea over the remaining rice and eel. It was so comforting and savory – absolutely perfect!

After polishing off my bowl, the staff even brought out a sweet pudding for dessert, completing a truly perfect meal.
Even the pudding was delicious... Seriously, missing out on this place would be a huge mistake!
5. Final Thoughts

Folks, ever since I tried Unagi Eito, no other place compares. I'm completely hooked!
It truly is my top-rated unagi donburi restaurant in Fukuoka, and I stand by that!
From the incredible taste and delightful dessert to the friendly staff, it was an absolutely perfect dining experience.
If you're planning a trip to Fukuoka and want to savor an exquisite meal, you absolutely have to visit Unagi Eito!
