SUNQ Pass Fukuoka Review 2026: Save on Kyushu Buses

Planning a trip to Fukuoka and looking to explore beyond the city limits?

Whether you want to soak in the famous hot springs of Beppu or wander the European-style canals of Huis Ten Bosch,

there are so many incredible places to see—but Japan's transit costs are notoriously high.

In this guide, I will share my personal journey covering Beppu and Huis Ten Bosch

and explain exactly why the SUNQ Pass was the smartest choice

for my Kyushu adventure! :)

What is the SUNQ Pass?

The SUNQ Pass is an all-access transport pass that offers unlimited rides on highway buses and local city buses

across the Kyushu region, helping you save big on transit.

If your itinerary involves hopping between major cities—like Fukuoka to Beppu (Oita)

and then over to Huis Ten Bosch (Nagasaki)—this pass becomes incredibly cost-effective.

I wanted to visit the Umitamago Aquarium and the African Safari in Beppu,

as well as spend a full day at Huis Ten Bosch,

so buying the SUNQ Pass was a complete no-brainer! :)

The SUNQ Pass is divided into three main options:

Northern Kyushu / Southern Kyushu / All Kyushu.

You can choose the pass that best fits your travel route.

Simply map out your must-see destinations first,

then pick the corresponding pass.

I chose the Northern Kyushu 3-Day Pass,

which was the perfect match for my Beppu and Huis Ten Bosch route.

I compared rates on MyRealTrip and Klook before booking.

At the time of my search, Klook was more than $10 cheaper for the 3-day pass.

However, if you have discount coupons for MyRealTrip,

it might turn out to be a better deal.

How Much Did I Actually Save?

I bought my Northern Kyushu 3-Day Pass for around $57.

Given my itinerary (Fukuoka Airport → Beppu → Omura → Huis Ten Bosch),

I saved about $13 compared to buying individual tickets.

Some of the high-speed highway bus routes

require seat reservations in advance.

The website can easily be translated into English using Google Chrome,

making the reservation process very straightforward! :)

Crucial Tip: Make sure to select "Pay at Counter/In-Store" (not online payment) when booking. On the day of travel, simply present your SUNQ Pass and reservation details at the ticket window to receive your physical tickets.

My Experience Traveling with the SUNQ Pass

In Beppu,

I visited three major attractions: Mt. Takasaki Wild Monkey Park,

Umitamago Aquarium, and the African Safari. :)

The Monkey Park and Umitamago Aquarium are right next to each other,

so you can easily walk between them,

making it a perfect half-day combo.

Getting around Beppu requires taking local city buses frequently.

Having the SUNQ Pass made this incredibly stress-free since I didn't have to

worry about counting coins every time I got on a bus.

At the African Safari, I rode the famous Jungle Bus

and got to feed lions and elephants up close! :)

On the second day, I traveled from Beppu to Huis Ten Bosch.

Since there is no direct bus route, I took a highway bus to Omura first,

and then transferred to the JR train to reach Huis Ten Bosch.

I had an incredibly packed and fulfilling itinerary exploring both Beppu and Huis Ten Bosch.

If your trip involves a mix of long-distance travel and local city transit,

the SUNQ Pass is absolutely worth it for both the savings and the sheer convenience.

For my next trip to Kyushu,

if I plan on visiting multiple cities again,

I will definitely buy the SUNQ Pass without hesitation. :)
