Must-Visit Spots in Osaka Umeda
Umeda Sky Building Kuchu Teien Observatory Admission & Ticket Tips
ⓒ Text & Photos by Minhahae
A place where you can soak in the entire Osaka Umeda cityscape at a glance,
the Umeda Sky Building Kuchu Teien Observatory.
I visited for the first time to see the night view, and after experiencing it,
it became immediately clear why everyone flocks there.
It ranks 9th among observatories in Japan by height, but
unlike Harukas 300, it's completely open-air,
offering the wonderful charm of fully immersing yourself in the scenery!
I'll tell you all the details, from how to get there to how to buy your tickets.
Umeda Sky Building Kuchu Teien Observatory Admission Tickets
As is often the case these days, booking in advance online is
much cheaper than buying tickets offline.
Actually, depending on whether you're okay seeing the Umeda Sky Building during the day
or if you specifically want to see the night view, I personally
recommend buying different types of tickets haha!
That's because most passes only offer a simple discount, not free admission,
from the afternoon onwards.

Free Admission Hours | Free until 3 PM 10% discount afterward | Free until 5 PM 10% discount afterward |

>> Personally, the one that allows you to use 3 spots within 7 days,
the Joy Pass, had higher utility.
In the upcoming autumn and winter, sunset times get earlier,
so you could enter before 5 PM and enjoy everything!

However, if there are many other places you want to visit with the Joy Pass,
and only getting a 10% discount feels a bit inefficient,
then buying a separate admission ticket and enjoying the view casually in the evening is also an option.
That's because the observatory operates until 10:30 PM,
making it perfect for a quick visit before heading back if your accommodation is in Umeda!

For reference, buying tickets directly on-site costs a hefty 2,000 JPY
(approximately ~$13 based on the current exchange rate)
but online purchases were generally cheaper, except for MyRealTrip.
However, online prices constantly fluctuate with exchange rates,
so make sure to check each platform before your visit to find the cheapest option!

As I'm also planning to use these for my own trip in October,
I've tracked down all the most advantageous coupons for these 3 spots right now!
I've even confirmed their applicability, so I hope you find them super useful not just for admission tickets
but for all your travels! 😉
(Just a heads-up: they're only applicable via the links within the table!)
How to Get to Umeda Sky Building Floating Garden Observatory
Even if you search on Google Maps, finding your way can be a little tricky,
so let me share a simpler way to get there.
📍 Umeda Sky Building Floating Garden Observatory
Japan 〒531-6039 Osaka, Kita Ward, Ōyodonaka, 1-chōme−1−88 梅田スカイビル

When you search on Google and arrive, you'll see a sign like this.
Look up, and you'll see a circular opening – just head straight
through the gap between the two buildings towards that opening.

After that, just go up into the building
with the sign that says 'Umeda Sky Building'.
First, take the escalator to the 3rd floor,
then transfer to an elevator to reach the 35th floor,
and from there, you'll take another escalator to go up further.

While waiting for the elevator on the 3rd floor, I went around an awkward
8:30 PM, but it turns out there were so many people then!
So, I think it might be better to use a pass and come a bit before sunset
to avoid longer waits.
I probably waited about 15 minutes for the elevator.

Seriously, I got off and saw another line, so I wondered if I should join it...
and then, silly me, I joined the line and went *down* again......
Once you get off the elevator,
you absolutely *must* take the escalator *up*!!
I went down... then had to take the elevator back up again...

I chose to enter with a 10% discount using the Osaka Amazing Pass,
and what was great is that it didn't count as one of the '3 out of 7 attractions'
you can use the pass for!
After purchasing the Osaka Amazing Pass on Klook,
all I had to do was show the QR code on my voucher to get the 10% discount
and then pay, which was super convenient.

The Floating Garden is captivating because it has an indoor observation deck on the lower floor,
and if you go up, there's an open-air observation deck, so you can enjoy
both indoor and outdoor views!
There are even heart-shaped locks, so if you're a couple,
it might be a fun way to create a lasting memory... haha!

Even though this photo was taken from the indoor observation deck,
the windows are so well-maintained that the city views are absolutely breathtaking –
if you love cityscapes, this is *the* place to be!

If you head outside and up, you'll discover the open-air observation deck,
soaring at a height of 173m!
The two buildings you saw from the entrance actually connect at the top
to form this unique structure – it's incredibly fascinating!
This design allows you to walk around 360 degrees and take in a variety of stunning views.
It makes perfect sense that this building was selected as one of the world's Top 20 architectural wonders
by The Times in the UK. Plus, isn't it fun to know little facts like that? 😉

I always thought of Osaka as having that Dotonbori vibe,
but the view from Umeda feels like something straight out of a futuristic city.
It really shows how much the location matters when it comes to observation decks!

Inside the observation deck, you'll find a cafe where you can sit and soak in the night view,
plus a gachapon shop and a souvenir store – so make sure to check them all out!
The Umeda Sky Building's Floating Garden Observatory captivated me with its expansive, open views
and unique architectural design!
What's more, it's open from morning till late, making it the perfect stop in Umeda
before heading back to your accommodation. So convenient! 😉

If you haven't been yet, I truly believe this is an observation deck
worth visiting at least once in Osaka!
Especially if you use the Joy Pass during your trip,
you'll unlock a wide range of benefits like restaurant discounts, shopping deals, and even free admission tickets.
It's a fantastic way to save at least ~\$7 to ~\$15 or more!
So I highly recommend giving it a try! 😉
(I personally saved over ~\$15 by visiting 3 spots during my 2-night, 3-day trip!)
