If you're an Ilsan local, chances are you've heard of 'Kim Kyeong-oh Ttasun Gimi,' a bakery that's practically a household name here. Recently, their Bamridangil branch exploded in popularity thanks to rumors of an amazing all-you-can-eat bread buffet!

This time, though, we're visiting their main branch, conveniently located near Juyeop Station.

You'll find Kim Kyeong-oh Ttasun Gimi's Ilsan Main Branch on the first floor of New Seoul Plaza. This building is also famous for the super-sized Square81 cafe, making these two spots local favorites for Ilsan residents.

If you're driving, head behind the building to access the dedicated underground parking on the second basement level. Keep in mind that this Ilsan main branch doesn't offer the bread buffet; instead, they sell a wonderful array of individual loaves and pastries.

Inside the Bakery

Stepping inside, you'll see a few tables near the entrance where you can sit and enjoy your treats. It tends to be quite relaxed and uncrowded on weekday mornings and afternoons.

Before you dive into the delicious selection, grab a bread tray and a pair of hygienic gloves. It’s pretty unique that they offer disposable gloves instead of tongs!

The Breads

While they do have some cakes, the real stars here are the breads. Right in the middle, you'll spot Tuile Jeonbyeong (crispy almond wafers) on sale for just ~$2.

First to catch my eye were the healthier, less intensely flavored options like Ciabatta, Squid Ink Gorgonzola Focaccia, and Fig Campagne.

And for truly wholesome bread lovers, their whole wheat bread is simply unbeatable.

The Scallion Cream Cheese Bagel is another incredibly popular item at Ttasun Gimi.

I was surprised to see a Cucumber Baguette! It’s definitely a unique item that might be a love-it-or-hate-it kind of thing, haha. It’s a crispy-on-the-outside, soft-on-the-inside baguette with homemade yogurt cream cheese. I personally adore the sound of it (though I didn't pick it up this time!).

It’s rare to find a bakery selling Mammoth Bread these days, but there was just one left! It looks small in the picture, but it was bigger than my palm.

The yellow bread initially made me think of sweet potato, but it was actually a Mango Bread! I debated for ages whether to get this soft, fluffy mango bread. It's still haunting my thoughts; next time, it's definitely coming home with me!

The classic breads like Salt Bread, Melon Bread, Sweet Potato Bread, Soboro Bread, and Red Bean Buns all looked incredibly delicious as well.

Their Watermelon Bread is marked as a signature menu item, so I had to grab one. I asked the owner if it's best eaten with jam or plain, and they said most people enjoy it as is.

I ended up buying Chocolate Bread, Mentaiko Baguette, and the Watermelon Bread! The chocolate bread was wonderfully packed with chocolate, which I loved. The Mentaiko Baguette also surprised me with a texture unlike other mentaiko baguettes I've tried. I'm not a huge fan of overly hard breads, so this mentaiko baguette instantly became my number one pick!

As for the Watermelon Bread, my first bite had me thinking, "Hmm, no strong flavor?" But as I kept eating, a subtle watermelon taste gradually emerged. The chocolate-like bits, resembling watermelon seeds, had a stronger flavor, while the red sections tasted similar to regular white bread. It pairs perfectly with a cup of coffee or milk.

All packaging is self-service. Honestly, I prefer this system over having staff pack it for you. It significantly cuts down on waiting times and even helps reduce excessive packaging.
