These days, when you think of Osaka, you often see pictures like this one: vibrant streets with a prominent tower standing tall at the end.
This is Shinsekai, one of Osaka's bustling districts, and the tower you see at its end is none other than Tsutenkaku Observation Deck, Osaka's iconic landmark.
This area truly lets you soak in the authentic Osaka vibe, and Tsutenkaku offers a unique perspective unlike any other observation deck, making it a place definitely worth visiting.
Today, I'll share everything about Osaka's representative landmark, Tsutenkaku Observation Deck – from tips on booking tickets and how to get there, to my personal review after visiting.
📌 First, let's dive into some tips for booking your Tsutenkaku Observation Deck tickets.
The standard ticket price is 1,500 JPY, and you can either book in advance or purchase on-site.
However, for a truly budget-friendly experience, the key is to use the ❗️ 'Osaka Amazing Pass'.
A 1-day pass costs ~$22, which is only about double the price of the observation deck ticket alone. But here's the amazing part: with just one pass, you can also enjoy attractions like Tsutenkaku's Tower Slider (1,100 JPY) and the Dive & Walk (3,000 JPY), making it incredibly good value for money!

Next, I'll share two convenient ways to reach Tsutenkaku Observation Deck.
You can reach Tsutenkaku on foot from two stations: Ebisucho Station or Dobutsuen-mae Station.
If you're using the Midosuji Line, get off at Dobutsuen-mae. If you're on the Sakaisuji Line, either Ebisucho or Dobutsuen-mae will work.
Personally, I recommend getting off at Ebisucho Station.
This route allows you to wander through the shopping arcade and the lively Shinsekai Market, which has a wonderful local feel. Plus, it's usually less crowded, so you can explore at a much more relaxed pace!
Now, let's talk about how to exchange your Tsutenkaku tickets and what to expect when entering the observation deck.
At Tsutenkaku, you purchase your tickets at the ticket center on the left, then enter through the pink line on the right.
Tsutenkaku's operating hours are from 9:00 AM to 9:45 PM, with the last admission at 9:15 PM, so please keep that in mind.
When you go to the ticket counter, you'll find tickets for Tsutenkaku...
You can purchase or exchange tickets for the slider and Dive & Walk!
If you're using the Osaka Amazing Pass, please note that you can only exchange one ticket at a time.
(You'll need to use one before exchanging for another.)
Also, they limit the number of visitors per hour, so immediate entry might not be possible.
However, you can exchange your ticket in advance for a specific time slot you prefer.
I visited around 3 PM, and at that time,
the earliest entry to the observatory was 4 PM, and for the slider, it was 5 PM.
On weekends or holidays, wait times can be long like this,
so I recommend exchanging your tickets in advance.
Once it's your time, you just head in with your ticket.
What's unique is that you enter by going underground!
Then, you just line up in front of the elevator
marked 'Observatory Entrance'.
Since it was Japan's Obon holiday period at the time,
it was definitely bustling with people!
After entering, they take a commemorative photo of each group,
which you can purchase.
However, even if you don't buy the large photo, you'll still receive a souvenir
with a small picture, just like the one shown.
Once your photo is taken, you take a second elevator
up to the 5th floor, which is the main observatory.
Unlike typical observatories, Tsutenkaku's observation deck
is located at the very top of the tower, giving it a truly unique internal structure.
Seeing the support beams and steel framework exposed throughout
was a refreshing sight!
At Tsutenkaku, you'll find the Eight Lucky Gods statues,
featuring Billiken, known as the God of Happiness.
They say that if you touch Billiken's exposed feet, as shown in the picture below,
good fortune will come your way!
Locals flock to this spot,
so I highly recommend giving it a touch while you're there.
The view of Osaka city from the observatory
was a little different from what you'd see at typical observation decks.
Since it's not super tall, you can see the original shape of the buildings,
which felt quite unique.
If you go up to the upper floor from the indoor observation deck,
you'll find an outdoor observation deck with no windows.
The views are similar, but there's a special photo spot here!
It's a photo experience where you take pictures from a railing right on the edge.
You have to walk out to a space that juts out from the building,
so it's quite thrilling!
Plus, the system allows for self-photography,
and you can download two resulting photos,
letting you create unique souvenir pictures.
(There might be a short waiting time.)
Once you've finished your visit and come down, there's a souvenir shop
spanning one whole floor in the basement.
You'll find tons of Glico company snacks,
and Osaka specialties, making it fun to browse around!
Besides that, there are many Billiken collaboration goods,
which are practically a symbol of Tsutenkaku.
So, if you like the character, it's worth picking something up!
Today, I shared my review of the **Tsutenkaku Observation Deck**, a
**representative landmark of Osaka**.
The atmosphere and scenery are different from typical observation decks,
allowing you to enjoy a unique view.
With events like free photo opportunities, I highly recommend
visiting it at least once.
I only visited the observation deck, but since there are also
attractions like "Dive & Walk" and a slide within the same tower,
you can truly make the most of Tsutenkaku if you enjoy them all together!
