Exploring Osaka's Tsukamoto Station? Find out if the convenient Hankyu Oasis or the expansive Life Utajima supermarket is your go-to for snacks, fresh produce, and family meals.
When traveling with kids, you might be surprised to find that the biggest energy drain isn't always the sightseeing or the long walks, but actually the meals!
Eating out for every single meal can quickly lead to fatigue, especially when you factor in waiting times, travel to restaurants, and the endless debate over what to order.
That's why, for our recent Osaka trip in 2026, we opted for an Airbnb near Tsukamoto Station, specifically planning our days around the convenience of local supermarkets.
Before our trip, we'd identified two main contenders for our grocery needs:
Hankyu Oasis and Life Utajima.
Initially, we thought we'd just pick one, but after experiencing both, we quickly realized that each served a distinct purpose, making it more efficient to utilize both depending on our needs.

Our Go-To for Evening Bites: Hankyu Oasis Review
Located just about 0.3 miles from our accommodation, Hankyu Oasis was less than a 10-minute walk away.
This proximity meant it naturally became our routine stop on the way back from our daily excursions.
At first, it felt smaller compared to the larger supermarkets back home, but upon exploring, we found it stocked everything a traveler might need, and its compact layout made for quick and easy shopping.
They had a fantastic selection of beers that you wouldn't typically find in convenience stores, and at better prices too! It was a fun ritual to pick a different brew each night.
We frequently bought the individually packed fresh squid sashimi as a snack – it was incredibly fresh and delicious for the price.
Hankyu Oasis quickly became our everyday local spot for light snacks and drinks, adding a delightful, convenient touch to our entire trip.

The Joy of a Full Cart: Life Utajima Store Review
Initially, I thought Hankyu Oasis would be sufficient and didn't see the need to visit Life, but one trip there completely changed my mind.
The moment you step inside, the sheer size difference is immediately apparent.
This isn't just a place to grab a few items; it's where you go when you want to do a "proper grocery shop."
The fresh food and deli sections were particularly impressive:
You could find beautifully marbled beef,
a wide array of sushi and sashimi,
tempura, bento boxes, side dishes, salads, and more.
With offerings like these, we found we could easily enjoy a complete meal at our Airbnb without needing to dine out.
However, at about a 1-mile, 20-minute walk from our accommodation, the journey back with heavy bags could be quite tiring. So, we often took the bus on our return.
Despite the slightly longer trek, Life supermarket is definitely worth visiting at least once for a comprehensive grocery experience.
What We Loved
- [Oasis] Extremely close, about 0.3 miles from our Airbnb, allowing for convenient daily runs for snacks and drinks without exhausting ourselves.
- [Life] A large store offering everything from beautifully marbled beef and high-quality sushi to a diverse deli selection (bento boxes, tempura), perfect for full meals.
- Using both supermarkets strategically helped reduce our reliance on dining out, making meal times more relaxed with the kids.
What Could Be Better
- [Oasis] Due to its smaller size, the selection of prepared foods suitable for full meals was limited.
- [Life] The approximately 40-minute round trip walk could be a burden with heavy groceries, making a bus or taxi ride back a necessity.
We Recommend This For!
- Families planning to cook and eat meals at their accommodation with children.
- Travelers staying in an Airbnb who intend to do their own grocery shopping.
- Anyone eager to experience a local Japanese supermarket.
