How to Book Tiananmen Square (Recommended Entrance Points)

Following last year's adventures, this year I'm planning a trip with my parents

to Beijing, China.

One of the places my parents absolutely wanted to visit

is Beijing's iconic landmark: Tiananmen Square.

While there's no entry fee for Tiananmen Square,

advance booking is absolutely essential.

Today, for those of you planning to visit Tiananmen Square,

I'll guide you through how to secure your entry booking!

How to Book Your Entry to Tiananmen Square

If you've already set up WeChat Pay,

you're probably familiar with

WeChat (微信), China's equivalent to KakaoTalk.

Beyond just its chat features, WeChat also offers handy functions for booking various restaurants and more.

And yes, booking your visit to Tiananmen Square can also be done right through WeChat!

First, after you've downloaded WeChat, search for Tiananmen (天安门) in the magnifying glass search bar, just like in the images above.

You'll then see the mini-program for Tiananmen Square Reservation (天安门广场预约参观).

When you click on the reservation program, you might be surprised to find it's entirely in Chinese.

But don't worry! Just click the three small dots in the upper right corner

and then select 'Translate' to get it in English.

I'll be explaining the rest of the steps using the translated English version.

For most independent travelers, you'll want to click on 'Individual Reservation'.

Next, you'll receive a verification code on your international phone number

which you'll then enter!

Next, take a moment to read through the 'Reservation Visit Service Tips'

and then click 'I already knew' to proceed.

After that, review the 'Reservation Visit Guide' and 'Reservation Visit Confirmation Location Table'

and finally, hit the 'Reserve Visit' button.

Next up, you'll choose your visit reservation date and viewing reservation time.

❗️Here's a crucial point: Tiananmen Square bookings

can only be made up to 7 days in advance.

So, make sure to book in advance, aligning with your planned visit date,

to guarantee your chance to enter Tiananmen Square.

As a heads-up, same-day bookings are generally not possible,

so if you're planning a visit, definitely secure your spot beforehand!

📍 For viewing reservation times, you can select from four slots: Flag Raising,

Morning (5:50 AM – 12:00 PM), Afternoon (12:00 PM – 4:44 PM),

and Flag Lowering (4:44 PM – 8:30 PM).

Simply choose the one that best fits your travel itinerary.

Next, you'll need to select your entrance point

for Tiananmen.

✅ Entrances 1 and 2, Tiananmen West Red Wall and East Red Wall,

are closest to Tiananmen, making them very popular, so they tend to fill up quickly.

(That's why I booked entrance 1 myself!)

✅ However, entrances 3, 4, and 7, which are further back, have the advantage of letting you see Tiananmen from a distance as you approach,

so it might be good to choose according to your preference!

Once you've selected your date, time, and location,

you'll need to enter your personal information.

You'll fill in your document type (passport), name, passport number,

nationality (Korea/韩国), gender, and age.

❗️ It is mandatory to bring your passport when entering Tiananmen,

so please make sure to enter everything accurately.

One representative can add companions, so you can book for everyone all at once.

Once you've finished entering all your companions' information,

please click the 'Submit Reservation' button.

Once your submission is complete,

you can reconfirm your information in the reservation record, as shown below!

💡 Here's a pro tip: You might need to show your reservation record when entering Tiananmen, so I recommend taking a screenshot in Chinese as well!
