Badaling Great Wall: Luggage Storage & Travel Tips 2026

If you're heading to Beijing, visiting the Great Wall is,

in my opinion, an absolute must!

On the day I transitioned from Tianjin to Beijing,

I was so excited that I headed straight for the Badaling Great Wall,

luggage and all, without even checking into my hotel first!

My itinerary was quite tight, with train times needing to align perfectly,

so any hiccup could have thrown everything off.

My biggest worry, though, was finding a place to store my suitcase.

I mean, you can't exactly hike the Great Wall with your luggage, can you? 😉

Even though I had heard that luggage storage was available,

I just couldn't shake off the worry! 😂

But guess what? It all worked out!

I successfully stored my suitcase and had an amazing time exploring the Badaling Great Wall.

I'll share all the detailed insights below, so keep reading!!

Badaling Great Wall: Essential Information for Your Visit!

The Badaling Great Wall is renowned for being the most accessible and

best-preserved section of the Great Wall from Beijing.

It's a favorite not only among international travelers but also a highly sought-after destination for locals! :)

Getting There: From Beijing City Center to Badaling

For my trip to Badaling, I opted for the train.

If you catch a train from Beijing North Station (北京北站), you'll travel through

Beijing North Station - Qinghe Station - Badaling Station,

reaching Badaling Station in about 30 minutes.

It's always a smart move to book your train tickets in advance.

They can sell out rapidly during peak seasons or on weekends.

That's exactly what I did, and I recommend you do the same! :)

While taking the bus is also an option,

I found the train to be far more punctual, comfortable, and quicker!

I booked my train tickets through Trip.com.

Since Badaling Station is a very popular route,

I highly recommend booking your tickets in advance,

especially if you're planning a weekend or peak season visit!

Yes, You Can Store Your Luggage!

Luggage Storage for Suitcases

This was, hands down, my biggest worry before the trip!

Since I headed straight to Badaling Great Wall on my travel day from Tianjin to Beijing,

stopping at a hotel to drop off my bags would have meant a complete detour

and a significant waste of precious time.

So, I literally had to bring my suitcase along!

Although I found information online suggesting luggage storage was available,

I couldn't help but fret about what would happen if it wasn't there when I arrived.

But thankfully, there *was* a place to store my luggage!!

What a relief! I dropped off my bags and was able to explore the Great Wall feeling light and free.

Just a heads-up: the luggage storage isn't immediately visible right after you exit the subway station.

You'll need to walk a bit further, all the way up towards the Great Wall entrance, before you find it.

I admit, I was a bit flustered at first when I couldn't find it right away. 😥

So trust me, everyone, don't doubt!

Just keep walking straight up, and it will appear, I promise! 😉

Larger items like suitcases need to be checked into the manned luggage storage facility,

and they require pick-up by 4:30 PM.

I arrived a little before 1 PM and was a bit worried about the time crunch,

but it turned out there was plenty of time to spare! :)

So, if you're traveling with a suitcase, rest assured you can store your luggage and

enjoy your exploration worry-free!! Seriously, don't stress! 😉

Tickets and Cable Car: Online vs. On-Site Purchase

I actually didn't purchase my admission ticket or cable car ticket online beforehand.

Instead, I just showed up at Badaling Great Wall on the day.

There were plenty of places selling cable car tickets,

but strangely, I couldn't spot a single place selling *admission* tickets! 😂

I even wondered if it was somehow included with the cable car ticket and just proceeded.

But then, halfway in, I was informed I needed a separate admission ticket!

So I had to detour, go through passport verification, and purchase one on the spot. Lesson learned! 😉

While there's almost no price difference between buying online and on-site,

unless you specifically want to keep a physical ticket as a souvenir...

I highly recommend buying your tickets online in advance.

When I visited, the ticket purchasing line wasn't long,

but there could be a wait!

Plus, if you buy online, it's a QR code,

so there's no worry about losing your ticket, which makes it even more convenient.

(I honestly didn't think about buying online and just went ^^;)

Klook and Trip.com usually offer the cheapest tickets,

so I recommend comparing prices before you buy.

My Real Experience at the Great Wall

The Great Wall was one of those places I vaguely thought,

'Since I'm in Beijing, I *have* to see it at least once!'

It was almost out of a sense of obligation, you know?

But when I actually got there, it truly made me gasp with a 'Wow!'

Honestly, I thought if I took the cable car all the way up,

I wouldn't have to walk much,

but once I got off, the incline was much steeper than I expected,

and I was like, 'Huh?' for a moment, haha!

To be honest, climbing up was a little scary.

Before the stairs, there's an uphill slope,

and the gradient is no joke.

It's not even stairs, just a steep slope,

and I honestly felt like my feet might slip, haha!

Among the sections of the Great Wall, Badaling is known for its accessibility,

which means it's always quite crowded ^^ haha.

Anyway, once you push past the fear and make it up,

the view is absolutely breathtaking.

The moment the endless expanse of the Great Wall stretched out before my eyes,

a wave of emotion washed over me.

It's so much more magnificent and beautiful than any photo can capture.

Coming here in person truly made me realize that this is an absolute must-visit

if you're in Beijing :)

Top Tips Before You Visit

Book your train tickets in advance.

During peak season, seats can sell out quickly.

You can store your luggage (carry-on) on-site.

However, there's a deadline for picking up your bags, so make sure to check it.

(When I visited, it was 4:30 PM)

Sneakers are not an option, they're a necessity.

The slopes are incredibly steep, so wear comfortable shoes!!

It's best to visit early in the morning.

There are fewer crowds, and it's much better for taking photos :)

you can save time waiting in line at the site.

If you're looking for an easily accessible section of the Great Wall from Beijing,

I highly recommend Badaling Great Wall :)

Besides Badaling, I also considered Mutianyu Great Wall,

but for that one, I'd recommend going with a tour!

(Mutianyu is said to have fewer tourists).
