Shengyongxing Beijing Review 2026: Michelin Caviar Peking Duck
Planning a trip to Beijing? Don't miss Shengyongxing, a Michelin-starred gem offering an unforgettable caviar Peking duck experience. Learn how to secure your spot!

Hey there, global explorers! Moarang here :)
When I was planning my Beijing adventure,
I knew one thing for sure: Peking duck was an absolute must-try!
But with so many incredible Peking duck restaurants scattered across Beijing,
deciding where to go felt like a delicious dilemma.
That's when I stumbled upon Shengyongxing, a Michelin-starred Peking duck specialist,
famously visited by YouTuber Yuksikmen and Captain Dagge.
The fact that it's a Michelin-starred restaurant was already a huge draw,
but then I discovered their unique Caviar Peking Duck –
that sealed the deal for me! I just *had* to try it. 😉
Shengyongxing: The Essentials
Name: Shengyongxing (Shengyongxing / 盛永兴)
Location: Beijing Sanlitun branch, Chaoyang District, Xindonglu No. 5
Michelin: 1 Michelin Star
📍 Shengyongxing Restaurant
중국 Bei Jing Shi, Chao Yang Qu, Wen Xue Guan Lu, 芍药居16号楼 邮政编码: 100101
Nestled in Beijing's vibrant Sanlitun, this spot is a favorite
not just with international travelers but with locals too – a true testament to its quality!

The exterior might look deceptively simple,
but step inside, and you'll find an atmosphere that's wonderfully sophisticated,
just as you'd expect from a Michelin-starred establishment. :)
Reservation: A Must-Do!
Shengyongxing only takes reservations via phone.
There's no online booking system, so
calling ahead is absolutely essential!
As I don't speak Chinese,
figuring out how to make a reservation was quite a puzzle for me.
My plan was to either ask my local tour guide for help,
or the hotel front desk staff.
With those two options in mind, I embarked on my journey to China.
Once I arrived, I realized the day I planned to visit was
a weekend during peak lunch hours.
Knowing it would be smart to book sooner rather than later,
I asked the friendly staff at my Tianjin hotel on the very first day of my trip to help me out.
Asking your accommodation's front desk for assistance is a fantastic tip –
they're usually more than happy to help with such requests! :)
Since it's such a popular spot, securing a reservation in advance is definitely the safest bet.
On the day I visited, it seemed like there were no available tables?
Everyone who walked in had to turn away.
I asked a staff member, and they mentioned that while reservations aren't strictly mandatory,
they highly recommend booking in advance, as wait times can be quite long if you arrive without one.
Inside Shengyongxing: A Peek Inside

The moment you step inside, you're greeted by a display of Michelin Guide accolades,
proudly showcasing their awards from 2020 all the way to 2026!
Plus, they've also been honored by 'Dazhong Dianping,' a renowned Chinese app that curates its own prestigious premium list, the Black Pearl Guide –
a true testament to their consistent excellence.

There were tables on the first floor too, bustling with diners.
We arrived a little ahead of our reservation, so
we waited comfortably on the first floor before being guided upstairs.

Once seated, I took a moment to admire the interior.
I loved how they incorporated the actual firewood used for roasting as part of the decor –
a clever touch that highlights their traditional cooking method.

And right there in the oven, ducks were roasting beautifully, promising a delicious feast.

They also had elegant private rooms, perfect for a more intimate dining experience.

The restrooms were impeccably clean – seriously, spotless! There was even a dedicated attendant
who would go in right after someone left to clean and tidy up. Talk about attention to detail, lol!
Honestly, it almost felt a little *too* attentive! 😉
Menu & Ordering: What to Expect

Here's what we ordered that day:
✔️Caviar Peking Duck
✔️Qianlong Cabbage (Peanut Cabbage Salad)
✔️Stir-fried Pea Shoots
✔️Beijing Jajangmyeon
For the Peking Duck, we opted for the Caviar Peking Duck.
If you're looking for a more unique experience than regular Peking Duck,
I highly recommend the Caviar Peking Duck :)

They promptly replace wet wipes as soon as you use them.
And when your water glass is empty, they refill it right away, too, haha!
Such attentive service, seriously, haha.

As for the dishes other than Peking Duck and Jajangmyeon,
they felt more like appetizers or side dishes, so I won't go into lengthy reviews!
The cabbage salad had a subtle peanut sauce aroma,
and the cabbage itself had a great, fresh texture.
That green vegetable dish was perfect for stimulating the appetite and cutting through the richness while eating the fatty Peking Duck.
It was great for stimulating the appetite and balancing the richness.
Caviar Peking Duck Review

Once you order, a staff member brings the duck directly to your table
and carves it right in front of your eyes.

Seeing the carving process firsthand
was an entertaining and special experience in itself.
It's truly a restaurant that delights your eyes even before you start eating, haha!

It was my first time trying caviar,
and the rich Peking Duck skin paired with the salty caviar
went incredibly well together, better than I expected!

The unique richness of the Peking Duck skin,
combined with the salty and savory flavor of the caviar,
felt like they perfectly complemented each other, filling in what the other lacked.
I guess caviar is totally my style, haha!
This was my first time trying caviar since coming to Beijing,
and I had no idea it would suit my taste so well :)

Just as you see on YouTube, the skin literally melts in your mouth.

The Peking duck, beautifully plated for us.
Wrapped in thin pancakes, it was absolutely delicious! :)

Oh, and when you order Peking duck, they give you a souvenir!
A cute duck keyring and
a piece of paper with a QR code printed on it.
If you scan the QR code here,
you can find out which farm the duck you're eating came from,
how long it was raised, and other details about the duck,
which really builds trust and confidence!
I guess this is what it takes to be a Michelin-starred restaurant! Haha!
Beijing Zajiangmian Review

Since I was in Beijing, I figured I *had* to try Beijing Zajiangmian too,
so I ordered it as an extra dish.

Beijing Zajiangmian tastes completely different from the Korean style.
Korean style is generally sweet,
but Beijing Zajiangmian has a more savory and deeply flavorful taste.

Perhaps because I ate it after the rich Peking duck,
the savory flavors just kept me wanting more!
When you have that slightly rich feeling after the Peking duck,
the savory Zajiangmian perfectly balances it out,
making them a fantastic pairing! :)
If there's one slight regret,
I wanted to mix it myself and capture that first, perfect shot,
but due to a slight miscommunication, the staff mixed it for me first... hehe.
Despite that small hiccup, the taste itself was truly amazing! :)
Peking Duck Price Review

We didn't order a whole Peking duck;
instead, we ordered based on the number of people.
The total came out to 576 Chinese Yuan.
That's just under ~$88,
and for a meal at a Michelin-starred restaurant,
I think that's a truly excellent price!!
To experience a Michelin restaurant in Beijing when I haven't even been to one in Korea yet, haha!

so it's absolutely essential to book in advance once your Beijing travel dates are set!!
