Exploring Taipei's Hidden Coffee Scene

I was absolutely stuffed! Fresh off a delicious beef noodle soup and a refreshing bubble tea, my stomach was completely full. As I ambled along, taking a leisurely stroll, a delightful aroma of coffee wafted past me. My curiosity piqued, I looked around and spotted this incredibly atmospheric local Taiwanese cafe!

Hmm, I thought, I'm pretty full, but should I go in now? Or should I make a mental note to visit another time? Ultimately, I decided, "Oh, it's just coffee!" and stepped right in. You simply can't pass up a charming coffee spot during a trip to Taipei!

I loved how they decorated the space with various coffee paraphernalia, and the overall interior design felt thoughtful and cozy. However, I noticed the seating was quite limited:

It felt like the space for customers was a bit small, with the cafe roughly split 50/50 between the coffee preparation area and the seating.

Inside, I spotted a roasting machine and piles of coffee beans. Ah, so that's where the incredible aroma was coming from!

I'm not sure what beans they used, but the Americano was delicious. It was a delightful and unique taste experience during my Taipei adventure.

I noticed a lot of customers were getting their coffee to-go. I'm not sure if it's typical for other local Taipei cafes, but people didn't seem to linger. They'd chat just long enough to finish their coffee and then head out. It might also be due to the time of day, perhaps a lunch break for local office workers.

Despite the limited seating, I never saw a single customer unable to find a spot. This arrangement seems to be a win-win: the staff have ample space to prepare coffee, and customers can enjoy the inviting interior.

The take-out customers, almost as if on cue, would say "Xie Xie" (thank you) and "Bye Bye" as they left. While "Xie Xie" is expected, it was amusing that everyone said "Bye Bye"! It gave the place a friendly, familiar vibe, perhaps because many were regulars.

Earlier, I had contemplated getting a hand-drip coffee alongside my Americano. Since the Americano was so good, I decided to go for it.

I initially leaned towards the hand-drip because it felt more distinctive, but then I heard it came with cream. Being more of a black coffee person, I opted for the Americano first. But since that was excellent, I decided to try the hand-drip as well. It was wonderfully nutty and flavorful.

It really feels like no one overstays their welcome here. In the time it took me to enjoy both coffees, countless customers came and went, and I was still the only one remaining. Soon, I'll finish this and head to check into my hotel. I just had some time to kill and wanted to pop into a cool Taipei cafe.

This Taipei cafe boasts a great atmosphere and excellent coffee. Places that roast their own beans usually deliver above average, and The Cafeist definitely proves that point.
