Teppan Jinja Dotonbori Osaka Review 2026: Unforgettable Skewers

Before my recent trip to Osaka,

my friend and I spent a lot of time researching the best places to eat.

Among all the incredible options, one spot we absolutely had to visit was

Teppan Jinja Dotonbori.

It's gained quite a reputation, known as a popular spot among Korean foodies, and I found plenty of positive reviews from other international visitors too.

The overwhelmingly good feedback convinced us this was a must-try.

To cut straight to the chase: this was easily

one of the most delicious meals we had during our entire Osaka trip.

Prime Location in the Heart of Dotonbori

Teppan Jinja Dotonbori boasts an excellent location, perfect for stopping by while exploring Namba and Dotonbori.

We visited after wandering around Dotonbori that day,

and it was pouring rain. I distinctly remember how warmly the staff greeted us as soon as we stepped inside.

One female staff member, in particular, was impressive with her fluency in both Korean and English.

She explained the menu and seating to us in Korean, then seamlessly switched to English for the next group of foreign customers who came in. It was quite fascinating to watch!

Easy Ordering with an English Menu

When we mentioned we were Korean, they promptly brought us an English menu.

The ordering system was simple: just check off your desired skewers with a pen,

so language wasn't an issue at all. They also had a wide variety of alcoholic beverages, from sake and soju to fruit wines, regular wines, and cocktails.

We chose seats at the counter, which I personally loved.

You get a real-time view of the chefs preparing the skewers right in front of you on the teppan grill.

It was a chilly, rainy day, so sitting in front of the warm grill was surprisingly cozy and enjoyable.

The Famous Asparagus Skewer

Before arriving, we'd researched which dishes were popular.

One that really caught our eye was the asparagus skewer wrapped in kataifi pastry.

Having seen it featured by several food enthusiasts, we were eager to try it ourselves.

Kataifi has become quite popular recently, so as I ate it, I thought, 'Oh, this is a familiar flavor!'

The crispy exterior of the kataifi contrasted beautifully with the tender asparagus inside, creating a delightful texture combination.

From Shrimp to Chicken Wings and Seafood

We also tried the shrimp skewers, which were thoughtfully prepared for easy eating.

We ordered chicken heart skewers and, seeing how delicious everything looked, kept adding more and more to our order.

The chicken wings, in particular, were expertly deboned, making them incredibly easy to pick up and enjoy.

We also had a dish with small seafood, perhaps baby squid, served with a savory sauce. It was lightly cooked, giving it a unique texture, and had almost no fishy taste, making it surprisingly delicious.

My Absolute Favorite Dish Here

And then, there was one dish that truly stood out as my favorite.

It was a skewer that seemed to be eel wrapped in an omelet-like egg.

The outer egg layer was incredibly moist and fluffy, just like a perfect omelet,

and the eel inside was equally tender. This combination was simply phenomenal.

I can't recall if we ordered it exactly twice, but I definitely remember ordering it again because it was just that good!

If you visit Teppan Jinja, I highly recommend trying this particular dish.

Engaging with the Staff Was Part of the Fun

While the food was delicious, another reason this place left such a lasting impression was the interaction with the staff.

My friend and I were watching the chefs at the grill, and we saw a dish being prepared that looked amazing. We started using body language, gesturing and saying something like, 'That looks so good!'

The chef immediately responded, engaging with us and preparing the dish right in front of us. That kind of atmosphere was fantastic.

Sitting at the counter, watching each skewer being crafted and then enjoying it, felt much more engaging and fun than just eating a meal and leaving.

Post-Meal Stroll to the Glico Man

After our delightful meal, we headed out to see the famous Glico Man sign, a must-do when in Dotonbori.

I'd seen it on a previous trip to Osaka, but my friend was a first-timer, so I wanted to make sure she experienced it.

The only problem was the heavy rain that day! We had to peer at the Glico Man through a sea of umbrellas, and with so many people holding umbrellas and trying to take photos, getting a nice picture was quite a challenge.

Even so, the memory of rainy Dotonbori remains a vivid part of our travel adventure.

Would I Revisit Teppan Jinja Dotonbori?

Absolutely, I would go back.

It was one of the most satisfying meals I had in Osaka,

and the wide variety of skewers made trying each one a fun experience.

If you're exploring Namba and Dotonbori and looking for a great spot for dinner and drinks, its location is perfect.
