You've likely seen its mesmerizing photos or heard its name whispered among travel enthusiasts – teamLab Planets is a truly iconic interactive art exhibition, with sister locations in Fukuoka and Osaka. Far from a passive viewing experience, this is an immersive journey that engages all your senses, offering a uniquely captivating adventure.

Typically, I'd walk you through the entire process, from booking tickets to finding the venue, followed by my visit review. But for teamLab Planets, I'm shaking things up! Let's dive straight into the experience first, saving the practicalities like ticket booking and directions for later.

Let the Journey Begin!

Your adventure kicks off with a unique ritual: washing your feet. There isn't a separate washing station; instead, you begin by wading through a gentle stream of flowing water that serves as the entrance. From this point onward, you'll explore the entire exhibition barefoot, connecting directly with the art.

Even the pathways between the installations feel otherworldly, adding to the mystique. As you navigate these enchanting corridors, you'll soon emerge into...

The 'Infinite Crystal Universe,' a breathtaking space where what you see constantly shifts depending on your perspective. With mirrors on all sides, reflections stretch endlessly, blurring the lines between floor and ceiling. It’s a truly disorienting and spectacular experience, and one of two spots where visitors tend to linger the longest at teamLab Planets Tokyo.

Next, you'll encounter a vast room filled with water, reaching about mid-calf – not quite knee-deep, but enough to fully immerse you. The entire space is transformed by lights projected onto the water's surface, creating an ethereal, almost magical atmosphere. Digital fish swim gracefully past, and it’s common to see kids (and adults!) playfully chasing them, so watch your step!

Then there's the 'Expanding Three-Dimensional Existence in Transcending Space,' a room filled with massive, soft spheres that constantly change color, creating a dynamic and playful environment.

My Absolute Favorite!

Of all the incredible installations at teamLab Planets Tokyo, this was my absolute favorite: 'Floating in the Falling Universe of Flowers.' This is the ceiling view you get when you lie down, and it's truly hypnotic. The visuals constantly shift and flow, creating such an intense sensation that you might question if the floor itself is moving. It's easy to get lost in the experience, feeling as though you're floating weightlessly.

Along with the mirror room, this is where most visitors spend the longest. I certainly did! To fully appreciate its magic, you absolutely must lie down and surrender to the spectacle above.

After that, you'll find an outdoor area on the second floor. Honestly, this one didn't quite capture my imagination as much as the others.

The Most Iconic Spot!

Finally, we arrive at what is arguably the most famous spot, the one that makes teamLab Planets a must-see for any Japan travel itinerary: 'Floating Flower Garden.' This mirrored floral wonderland is incredibly popular for photos, and it’s easy to see why! While it’s a favorite for snapping stunning shots, it didn't make my "longest linger" list because there’s a time limit. So, if you want to capture a lot of amazing photos, you’ll need to move quickly!

Describing such a deeply experiential exhibition in words has its limits, but if you love interactive art or are seeking unique things to do in Tokyo, this is absolutely the place. I enjoyed it so much that I even made a point to visit the teamLab locations in Osaka and Fukuoka on subsequent trips!

Booking Your Tickets & Getting There

Booking your teamLab Planets Tokyo tickets is straightforward via platforms like Klook or KKDay. When I visited, having my tickets pre-booked meant I could bypass the main queue entirely, saving a lot of time. However, checking now in 2026, it seems there might even be a separate 'Fast Track' ticket option available, which wasn't around during my visit. This suggests the venue's popularity has soared even further! While I haven't personally used the Fast Track option, securing any advance ticket is highly recommended to avoid long waits.

These photos, taken after my visit, clearly show the benefit of booking ahead. The line on the left was for those with pre-booked tickets, while the right was for on-site purchases. When I arrived, the pre-booked line was completely empty, allowing for immediate entry!

For travelers with luggage, there’s a designated storage area available, which is very convenient if you're arriving directly from or heading straight to the airport or another city.

A quick guide on how to get there:

teamLab Planets is located in the Odaiba area, directly accessible from Shin-Toyosu Station. If you’re using a Tokyo Metro Pass, please note that you’ll need to transfer at Toyosu Station to the Yurikamome Line for one additional stop. The Yurikamome Line is not covered by the standard Metro Pass, so you’ll either need to use a Suica or Pasmo IC card, or purchase a separate ticket for this short leg of your journey.
