Planning a trip to Tashkent? This bustling Central Asian capital offers a unique blend of ancient history and modern charm. If you're looking for an authentic experience, exploring the city's highlights on your own or with a guided tour is highly recommended. Get ready to discover vibrant markets, stunning mosques, and fascinating museums!
1. Tashkent City Park & City Mall
If you're in downtown Tashkent and need to exchange currency, the Hilton Tashkent is your go-to spot. Their 24-hour currency exchange on the first floor makes it incredibly convenient for travelers.

Once you've sorted your cash, just cross the street to find Tashkent City Park. Even under the bright sun, the park is worth a stroll, filled with various sculptures and interesting installations to keep your eyes busy.

The park features an artificial lake and fountains, which would surely draw a crowd on cooler days. I visited in July, and let me tell you, if you're planning your Tashkent trip for 2026, definitely avoid July and August. It gets incredibly hot, with temperatures often soaring above 100 degrees Fahrenheit (38 degrees Celsius).

As you explore Tashkent, you'll frequently spot stores called Havast. Think of them as local convenience stores, perfect for grabbing snacks or drinks on the go.

2. Chorsu Bazaar
On the way to Chorsu Bazaar, you'll pass an impressive educational institution. I initially thought it was a mosque, but it appeared to be a university building. Entry was restricted, so I only managed to snap a few photos from the outside.

A bit further walk brings you to the famous Chorsu Bazaar. Spend about 30-40 minutes soaking in the vibrant atmosphere and then continue your city exploration.

You might even spot a Korean restaurant and other beautiful buildings around the city. Tashkent also has a Korean Park, but it was under construction during my visit, so I couldn't go inside.

3. Opera Theater & Amir Timur Museum
Next up are the Opera Theater and the Amir Timur Museum. Influenced by its Russian ties, the Opera Theater occasionally hosts performances. There weren't any shows scheduled on the day I visited, likely due to it being a holiday.

Even from the outside, the performance hall boasts high ceilings and a truly magnificent presence.

A short walk further will lead you to the Amir Timur Museum. This museum has a separate admission fee for foreigners. It costs ~$14 USD, and operating hours are from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

4. Minor Mosque
No trip to Tashkent is complete without visiting the Minor Mosque. This serene spot, with students canoeing on the nearby river, offers a peaceful escape.

The striking blue mosque features beautifully intricate exterior patterns.

It's a popular stop for tour groups; as I was leaving, a large group of tourists arrived. If you're not comfortable navigating the subway alone, or if you prefer detailed explanations of mosques and museums, a guided walking tour of Tashkent comes highly recommended. While I used the subway and buses, the routes could sometimes be a bit tricky, and a guide would definitely enhance the experience.
