Phu Quoc's Duong Dong, or the central district, is a vibrant hub overflowing with fantastic restaurants and charming cafes. There's so much to explore, you could easily spend a few days here and still not visit them all!
While I've popped into many coffee shops on the island, one that truly stood out and captured my heart was Tarapaca Cafe.

Tarapaca Cafe Location

Tarapaca Cafe is conveniently located in the central district, just a short 5-minute walk from the Crocs store and the popular King Kong Mart. If you're visiting the central area, you'll almost certainly find yourself at King Kong Mart – it's huge, and you could easily spend an hour just browsing its aisles! It's a favorite spot for many international visitors.

Keep an eye out for the adorable cat waving hello on their signboard – it's hard to miss!
Inside the Cafe

Wow! Step inside, and you're greeted by that distinctive, soulful Vietnamese interior design. From the outside, I admit I hesitated for a moment, wondering if I should go in. But once inside, I found a wonderfully spacious and comfortable environment with plenty of seating tucked away.

Of course, there are plenty of cafes and restaurants in Phu Quoc that cater heavily to tourists, where you can easily order in English and enjoy familiar flavors. But for me, I always lean towards local spots like Tarapaca. There's just something about their authentic ambiance that truly makes me feel relaxed and connected to the island's spirit.

Venture further inside, and you'll find plenty of comfortable seating arrangements. It's spacious enough to easily accommodate larger groups, making it perfect for families or friends traveling together.
The Menu

Let's take a peek at Tarapaca Cafe's menu. Vietnamese coffee naturally takes center stage! You can grab an iced coffee for around ~$2-3, while a refreshing coconut latte will set you back about ~$3. These prices are incredibly affordable! They also offer a variety of waffles if you're looking for a sweet treat.

While there are a few illustrated menu items, take a look at the larger menu board on the wall for an even wider selection of beverages.

If you're looking for a bite to eat, check out their all-day breakfast menu. You can get delicious items like sandwiches and scrambled egg buns for less than ~$7!

Their merchandise is absolutely adorable – I seriously considered buying a souvenir! It reminded me of a traditional Vietnamese filter coffee set I once bought (the kind often called "weasel" or "squirrel" coffee). While it looks fantastic, I'll admit it's mostly become a decorative piece at home because I rarely get around to using it. Oops!

Beyond just cups, they have a charming array of other trinkets and merchandise. It's fun to browse these little treasures while you wait for your coffee to be prepared.

I ordered the iced coconut latte, and they even brought a glass of water alongside it – such a thoughtful touch! It wasn't an overtly "unique" flavor, but rather the familiar, comforting sweetness we all know and love, which was absolutely perfect.

A huge bonus: every table has power outlets, so you can easily charge your devices, and they have clean restrooms. This is a big deal, as many local cafes in Vietnam sometimes lack air conditioning or comfortable seating. From its interior, Tarapaca Cafe easily rivals some of the more well-known, major cafes in Vietnam!

Tarapaca Cafe truly shines as a friendly and welcoming spot in central Phu Quoc.
If you're doing some shopping at King Kong Mart or just passing through the neighborhood, make sure to carve out some time to visit! It's personally one of my favorite cafes on the entire island of Phu Quoc.
