When traveling to Andong, Hahoe Folk Village

is pretty much an absolute must-visit!

I visited for the first time since elementary school,

and since it was the peak of summer,

the scorching sun was no joke.

The place that felt like an oasis in the middle of a desert

was none other than Talbinggo!

It's a cafe located right inside the Hahoe World Mask Museum,

and it has been awarded the prestigious Blue Ribbon (Korea's Michelin Guide equivalent) for 4 consecutive years! :)

1. Recommended Cafe in Andong Hahoe Village

The very first place I visited on this Andong trip

was Hahoe Folk Village.

It had been so long since my last visit,

and I found there was so much more to see

and it was beautifully maintained.

However, the summer sun was incredibly strong,

which drained my energy faster than expected T_T

But right on the 1st floor of the Hahoe World Mask Museum,

there was a Blue Ribbon-surveyed cafe?!

As for parking:

Weekdays: Park right in front of the cafe/museum

Weekends & Holidays: Use the Hahoe Village Public Parking Lot

That's how you can do it! Haha

Since Talbinggo is located near the entrance of Hahoe Village,

it's perfect for a quick break before exploring the village,

or to cool down with a refreshing treat

after you're done sightseeing.

It's a fantastic spot to add to your itinerary.

2. A "Blue Ribbon" Gem for 4 Consecutive Years

Once you step into the Hahoe World Mask Museum,

you'll find Talbinggo right on the right-hand side.

It's super easy to find, making it a natural stop

while you are checking out the museum!

What surprised me the most was that since 2021,

this place has been selected for the Blue Ribbon Survey 4 years in a row!

It's even been featured on the famous Korean TV show "Live Info Show" (Saengsaeng Jeongbotong),

making it a highly renowned shaved ice spot.

Since it's a Gyeongbuk Tour Pass affiliate, you can get discounts,

and you can also use Andong Love Gift Certificates.

No wonder both travelers and locals love coming here!

And best of all, the air conditioning was blasting so cold,

it truly felt like a desert oasis! Hahaha

There isn't much shade in Hahoe Village,

so walking around gets incredibly hot.

But digging into a cold bowl of bingsu (shaved ice) inside a cool room

literally brought me back to life! :D

For those traveling with kids,

they have high chairs available,

and with all the beautiful traditional trinkets

decorating the windows and corners, there’s plenty of lovely details to look at.

It was the perfect cozy atmosphere to take a little break during your travels :)

3. Recommended Menu Items at Talbingo

Talbingo's signature menu items are

the freshly baked homemade milk bread and the Pure Milk Bingsu (shaved ice)!

I was especially excited to try it because they make their red bean paste in-house.

They hand-select only the finest locally grown red beans from Andong

and simmer them fresh right here!

They also sell a variety of breads, focusing mostly on milk loaves,

and they even have Hahoe Mask-shaped madeleines!

I thought those would make the absolute perfect souvenir or gift.

The Pure Milk Red Bean Bingsu

was absolutely show-stopping just to look at.

The snow-white shaved milk ice is piled up like a mountain,

looking incredibly refreshing and cool just from a glance.

What I loved most about it

was that the red beans and sliced almonds are served on the side!

This means you can customize it and eat it exactly the way you like.

First, I took a bite of just the pure shaved milk ice on its own.

Wow... it literally felt like pure milk frozen into snow.

It was so incredibly soft and literally melted on my tongue.

Next, I tried it with the red beans and injeolmi (rice cake) on top,

and finally, I loaded it up with plenty of almonds

to enjoy the fully assembled bingsu! Haha.

To be honest, I'm not usually a big fan of red beans.

I tend to avoid them because of that uniquely dry, chalky texture,

but the red bean paste at Talbingo is so incredibly smooth and nutty

that it completely changed my mind!

It's sweet without being cloying or leaving any dry aftertaste.

It melts so smoothly in your mouth,

making it impossible to stop eating!

And with the addition of the toasted almonds adding a lovely crunch,

the texture was perfect. I absolutely devoured it!

To be honest, the condensed milk bread totally blew me away!

Since I'm from Daejeon, raised on the legendary Sungsimdang bakery,

I have incredibly high standards for bread—

but the milk bread here was absolutely delicious!

Because it was freshly baked, the layers were

so incredibly soft and moist.

The special condensed milk wasn't overly sweet,

which really brought out the natural, rich flavor of the bread.

I completely regretted not buying a few more to go, haha.

The peach iced tea was also sweet and refreshing—

the perfect thirst-quencher for a hot day!

When we walked out after our bingsu, right across the street

was the "Hahoe 4-Cut" photo booth?!

You can even dress up in traditional outfits and take commemorative photos!
