This Chuseok holiday falls from September 24th to 27th,
giving us 4 days off without using any annual leave.
It's a bit tricky to travel far, but staying home feels like a missed opportunity.
So, I looked into places on the West Coast.
Taean is about two and a half hours by car from Seoul,
and only two hours from Daejeon, making it a stress-free trip.
For this Chuseok holiday, I chose our accommodations based on these three criteria:
1. Ocean view, close to the sea
2. A place for water activities or mudflat experiences
3. BBQ available in the evening
You might think water activities are over by late September,
but Taean's mudflats offer plenty to do without even getting into the water!
Just a heads-up, this is prime booking season for holiday accommodations.
The coupon discount rates drop after August 25th,
so if your dates are set, it's best to book quickly!
I'll explain more about that below.
📍 Taean Malli Spa Pension
Location: 1-minute walk to Mallipo Beach
Among the three options, this one is closest to the ocean.
Step out of your room and you're right at Mallipo Beach.
There's a reason 'Spa' is in its name:
every room comes with a whirlpool spa.
It's free to use from 3 PM to 10 PM.
There's also a separate swimming pool, open from 3 PM to 8 PM.
There's a wide variety of room types available.
From Ocean Spa Rooms and Ocean Terrace Rooms to Family Rooms accommodating 4-6 people.
They even have separate pet-friendly rooms!
The Chuseok holiday price is ~$91.
It boasts a 9.4-star rating with an impressive 1,525 reviews.
With that many reviews, you know it's a tried-and-true spot!
BBQ setup (charcoal and grill) is an additional ~$14.

📍 Taean Vivione
Location: 6-minute walk to Cheongpodae Beach
I picked this one for one major reason: mudflat experiences!
It's something you can't do in Gangwon-do, but totally possible here on the West Coast!
While water play might be iffy in late September, mudflat activities are always a go.
If you're bringing kids, the mudflat experience is definitely the highlight.
(+ There's also a pool, but you'll need to confirm its operating dates.)
Individual BBQ facilities are available, and all rooms offer ocean views.
Chuseok holiday price: ~$137
→ ~$129 with coupon.
Rated 9.7 stars with 429 reviews.
However, for mudflat activities, you'll need to check the tide schedule.
If the tides aren't right on your check-in day, you won't be able to go in then.

📍Anmyeondo Mediterranean Morning
Location: 5 minutes by car from Baramarae Beach
It's an **all-season swimming pool**. You can even swim in late September!
This is more important than you might think,
if you take your kids during a holiday,
you can spend the whole day just playing in the water, right?
There's also a **private beach**.
Among the top accommodations in Taean,
this was the only place with a private beach.
It has a greenhouse cafe and an overall European style,
making it perfect for taking photos.
Chuseok holiday price: ~$159
→ With coupon applied, ~$148.
The **rating is 9.9 points**.
With 629 reviews, a 9.9 rating is the highest in Taean.
It's true it's the most expensive among the three.
Compared to Mallispa Pension, there's about a ~$55 difference.
However, a swimming pool and a private beach –
this was the only place that had both.

⚠️The most important thing here is that
the discount rate for domestic accommodation coupons varies depending on your **booking time**.

All three offer a discount for payments over ~$55, up to a maximum of ~$35.
Since the first day of Chuseok is September 24th,
August 25th is the deadline for 30+ days in advance.
From August 26th, it becomes 29 days in advance, and
the 5% discount drops to 4%.
The 8% discount for 60+ days in advance already ended in July.

It's only a few dollars to about ~$7,
but if you're going to book anyway, it's beneficial to do it a few days earlier.
Also, the coupon itself can only be obtained until **August 31st**.
Chuseok is in September, but the coupon is only valid until August,
so if you book in September, there will be no coupon at all.

To sum it up, Taean accommodations are
perfect for a 1 to 2-night getaway during a long weekend.
It's not far, has the beautiful sea, and even offers mudflats to explore.
Once you've decided on your travel dates, grab your coupon first and then book your stay.
After August 25th, the discount rate will drop,
and after August 31st, the coupon will be gone.
If you book by August 25th, based on September 24th, the first day of the Chuseok holiday, you can receive a 5% discount. Starting from August 26th, the discount rate will drop to 4%, and the coupon pack itself can only be obtained until August 31st.
The in-room whirlpool spa at Malispa Pension is available for free from 3 PM to 10 PM. The separately operated swimming pool is open from 3 PM to 8 PM.
Vivione Pension is a 6-minute walk from Cheongpodae Beach, making mudflat experience its main feature. Even when water play might be difficult in late September, mudflat experience is still possible and suitable for families with children. However, you must check the tide times before visiting the mudflats.
Anmyeondo Mediterranean Morning Pension operates a four-season swimming pool, allowing swimming even during the Chuseok holiday in late September. Additionally, it features a private beach, so you can enjoy both water play and beach access simultaneously.
