To celebrate my grandmother's birthday, my family took a wonderful 2-day weekend getaway to Taean.

During our trip, we stumbled upon an absolute gem of a restaurant in Anmyeondo that serves the best crab stew and marinated crab I have ever tasted.

Today, I am thrilled to share my review of Sumijeong Anmyeondo!

When you visit Taean, trying Gegeukji (a local crab and cabbage stew) is an absolute must-do.

Since I was traveling with my grandparents, I wanted to find a truly authentic spot that would satisfy their seasoned palates.

My grandfather is a big fan of the famous Korean travel show '1 Night 2 Days,' so we decided to visit Sumijeong, which was highly praised on the show!

As expected from a legendary local spot, the dining hall was packed with hungry visitors.

We arrived right at lunchtime, but even on weekday mornings, the parking lot is constantly filled with cars—a true testament to its popularity.

If you are traveling with a large group, I highly recommend making a reservation in advance.

They also provide sturdy high chairs for babies, making it incredibly family-friendly and convenient for parents traveling with toddlers.

The Menu

While you can order soy-marinated crab or spicy crab individually, the best way to experience Taean’s culinary highlights is to get a combo set.

The set menu covers all the local specialties in one go! Since there were five of us, we ordered the 4-person set and added an extra portion of soy-marinated crab on the side.

The 4-Person Feast

Soy-Marinated Crab + Spicy Marinated Crab + Gegeukji Crab Stew + 4 Bowls of Rice

Look at the gorgeous soy-marinated crab from our set menu! It was bursting with rich orange roe.

Most importantly, it had absolutely no fishy odor and wasn't overly salty—it was seasoned to absolute perfection.

The spicy marinated crab was incredible too. The heat level was just right—not overwhelmingly spicy.

My grandmother enjoyed it so much that I momentarily wondered if we should have ordered an extra plate of this instead!

Whenever you search for must-eat dishes in Taean, Gegeukji always tops the list.

This was my very first time trying Gegeukji, and to be honest, I expected it to have only a few pieces of crab just for flavor.

But I was completely wrong! The pot was loaded with plump, meaty crabs, and the broth was incredibly deep, refreshing, and satisfying.

I was so thrilled by how much sweet, tender meat was packed inside each crab that I quickly snapped a photo of the last piece before devouring it! 🧡

The Star of the Show: Soy-Marinated Crab

This is the extra à la carte portion of soy-marinated crab we ordered.

Can you see that beautiful, creamy roe glistening in the light? The crab meat was incredibly plump and bouncy.

Mixing warm rice directly inside the crab shell with the savory soy sauce and rich roe is pure heaven.

It was so delicious that any thoughts of wanting more spicy crab vanished instantly. I immediately prepared a shell full of savory rice and passed it to my grandparents to enjoy. 🧡

The soy-marinated shrimp (Saewoo-jang) was another highlight. The shrimp were delightfully sweet, plump, and had a wonderfully chewy texture.

I usually avoid peeling shrimp because it's messy, but these were so tempting that I happily peeled them all to share with my grandparents. It was sheer magic! ✨

Just writing about this experience makes my mouth water all over again.

Unwind with a Post-Meal Coffee

Once you’ve had your fill of crab and stew, there is a lovely little coffee corner right near the entrance.

Surrounded by beautiful flowers and comfortable seating, it’s the perfect place to sit back, enjoy a cup of coffee, and plan the rest of your day’s adventures.

Sumijeong Anmyeondo is highly popular, but thanks to their massive, spacious parking lot, parking is absolutely hassle-free.

The dishes are beautifully clean, perfectly balanced, and completely free of any fishy taste.

It completely won over my incredibly picky grandparents, as well as my parents and me!
