Sunworld Hotel Wangfujing (北京天伦松鹤大饭店).

Because Beijing is such a massive, sprawling metropolis,

your hotel's location can literally make or break your itinerary.

If it's your first time visiting the Chinese capital, deciding which neighborhood to stay in can be pretty overwhelming.

I wanted a spot that made hopping between Wangfujing, Shichahai, and Qianmen an absolute breeze.

That's exactly why I landed on Sunworld Hotel.

Sunworld Hotel Beijing: The Basics

First things first! A crucial heads-up:

When you search for this property, you'll likely see two similar names:

Sunworld Hotel Wangfujing and

Sunworld Dynasty Hotel.

The one I stayed at (and am reviewing today) is the

4-star Sunworld Hotel Wangfujing.

The Sunworld Dynasty Hotel is its 5-star sister property right down the street!

True to its name, Sunworld Hotel Wangfujing is located

right in the beating heart of the Wangfujing district.

​

The official address is:

88 Dengshikou Street, Dongcheng District, Beijing

(北京市东城区灯市口大街88号)

It's only about a 5 to 6-minute walk

from the Dengshikou Subway Station.

​

Because it's also less than a 5-minute stroll to the famous Wangfujing pedestrian street,

it remains a massive hit with international tourists year after year.

​

If you're a Beijing beginner,

staying in the Wangfujing area is my top recommendation.

​

Why? Because iconic landmarks like the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, and Jingshan Park

are incredibly close, saving you a ton of money on taxi fares and precious transit time.

​

In fact, a quick Didi (ride-share) to Tiananmen Square takes just 5-10 minutes,

making early morning sightseeing completely stress-free.

​

Here are my main pros for this hotel:

However, there is a catch you need to know about.

Since the property isn't brand new,

they have a mix of newly renovated rooms and older, unrenovated ones.

​

When you look on booking sites,

the cheapest option is usually the Standard Room.

Keep in mind that Standard Rooms have NOT been renovated yet.

If you want a modern feel, you need to upgrade slightly.

​

I personally booked the Superior Room to ensure a refreshed space!

Is Wangfujing Street Really Walkable?

Short answer: Absolutely.

It's actually much closer than I expected.

​

Even at a leisurely vacation pace,

it took us barely 5 minutes to walk from the hotel lobby to the main Wangfujing shopping street.

​

A quick note for returning travelers: Wangfujing used to be famous for its exotic night market,

but that permanently closed down following the pandemic.

If you're going specifically to eat scorpions on a stick, you might be disappointed.

​

Instead, think of modern Wangfujing as a premier hub for high-end shopping and fantastic local eateries.

​

​

Honestly, I preferred the current vibe over the old tourist-trap night market.

The sheer volume of amazing food nearby is staggering.

Hot pot joints, traditional Chinese breakfast stalls,

chic cafes, and convenience stores are all within a few blocks.

​

​

Because of this, we didn't even bother booking the hotel breakfast,

and we didn't miss it for a second.

Waking up and grabbing fresh steamed buns (baozi) or

a crispy, savory Jianbing (Chinese crepe) from a street vendor was a daily highlight.

If you want an authentic taste of local life,

skipping the buffet and exploring the neighborhood is definitely the way to go.

Honest Review: Superior Twin Room

​

I was traveling with a friend for this Beijing getaway,

so we opted for the ​Superior Twin Room.

This is easily the most popular room type for friends traveling together or families traveling with older parents.

​

​

​

The recently renovated Superior Room felt incredibly fresh and clean.

​

My first impression walking in?

It was much more spacious than I had anticipated.

​

We had two massive 28-inch suitcases, and we could keep them fully open

on the floor without tripping over each other.

While the window wasn't floor-to-ceiling, there was a handy ledge beneath it where we could easily store our luggage.

​

​

​

​

There was plenty of space between the beds,

giving us both a sense of privacy.

The linens were crisp and spotless, and the AC blasted perfectly cool air after a long day of walking.

​

​

​

​

The room featured a neat little seating area with a table,

which became our go-to spot for late-night delivery snacks

and doing our makeup in the mornings.

​

Every morning, we woke up to a lovely view of lush green trees right outside our window,

which was a surprisingly refreshing touch in the middle of Beijing.

​

The ambient lighting added a cozy, warm mood

that made winding down super relaxing.

We both had accessible power outlets right next to our beds,

so charging phones and power banks overnight was hassle-free.

Housekeeping generously provided 4 complimentary bottles of water daily.

We never had to buy extra water outside;

we just grabbed a couple of bottles from the room before heading out to explore.

The room was fully equipped with all the essential amenities you'd expect!

The bathroom was impeccably clean,

From hand towels to toiletries, everything was well-stocked and of decent quality.

I can be a bit picky about the scent of hotel toiletries,

but these had a pleasant, subtle floral fragrance.

Also, the hairdryer was a Dyson-style model,

meaning it had some serious drying power! 👍🏻

The shower setup was solid.

Water pressure was strong, and the hot water was consistent without any weird temperature fluctuations.

When I was in Shanghai, they had cute little robots delivering food to the rooms,

but I didn't see any here in Beijing. A slight bummer!

Instead, you just pick up your food delivery orders from a designated spot next to the concierge desk.

Ultimately, when I'm traveling, I don't spend all day lounging in my room. Location is always my number one priority.

By that metric, this hotel exceeded my expectations.

Being able to gorge on late-night snacks in Wangfujing and safely walk back

to the hotel in minutes was an absolute game-changer. 😆

Final Thoughts for Your China Notes

If you're still debating where to stay in Beijing,

I can't recommend the Wangfujing area enough.

​

Beijing's scale is hard to comprehend until you're there. If you book a hotel in a bad location,

you could easily waste 2 to 3 hours a day just sitting in traffic or navigating transfers.

​

While Sunworld Hotel Wangfujing isn't a 5-star luxury resort,

its unbeatable location and affordable price point make it an incredible value.

​

Especially if it's your first time in the city,

the combination of staying in Wangfujing with excellent subway access

will guarantee a smooth, satisfying trip! 😆
