Flying Sun Phu Quoc Air from Ho Chi Minh to Incheon? Check out our detailed review of flight 9G400, including check-in tips, seat comfort, and why this daytime flight is a great choice.

When it was time to leave the vibrant streets of Ho Chi Minh City, I opted for Sun Phu Quoc Air again for my return journey to Incheon. Having flown with them on the way in, I was keen to see how the experience would be for the flight back. I'm excited to share my full experience on flight 9G400, from check-in to touchdown!

Sun Phu Quoc Air 9G400 Schedule

One of the biggest perks of flight 9G400, in my opinion, is its convenient schedule.
Ho Chi Minh City - Incheon |
3:40 PM - 10:40 PM |
~44 lbs Baggage Included |
Unlike many flights that depart in the dead of night or early morning, Sun Phu Quoc offers a comfortable daytime flight. This meant I could enjoy a leisurely morning exploring Ho Chi Minh City before heading to the airport, which was an absolute game-changer.
No more losing sleep on a red-eye flight! Arriving in Incheon at a reasonable hour meant I woke up the next day feeling refreshed and ready to go.
Check-in Information

Upon arrival at Ho Chi Minh Airport, you'll typically head to the J counter for check-in. However, it's always a good idea to double-check the airport screens or your booking details as counter assignments can sometimes change.
Sun Phu Quoc Air allows online check-in up to 24 hours before your flight. While this is convenient, if you plan to check any bags, you'll still need to join the queue at the airport counter. Ho Chi Minh Airport is notoriously busy, so we made sure to arrive a generous 2 hours and 30 minutes before our departure. Even then, there was a considerable crowd, so plan accordingly!

Boarding Experience

As a relatively new airline, I half-expected potential delays, but I was pleasantly surprised by Sun Phu Quoc Air's punctuality. Our flight departed and arrived right on schedule. Boarding commenced at Gate 18, and while announcements were made for group boarding, it seemed most passengers were eager to get on board, with the grouping guidelines not strictly followed.

I had pre-selected my seat in Row 5 during online check-in. Since Sun Phu Quoc Air doesn't have a separate business class, being in Row 5 put me quite close to the front. My seat was already assigned, but if you find yourself with a less-than-ideal rear seat, you can usually upgrade to a front-row seat during online check-in for an additional fee. This typically costs around ~$7 or more, and for the reasonable price, I definitely recommend securing an upfront seat for added comfort and quicker deplaning!

Even though I completed online check-in, I still received a physical boarding pass at the counter after dropping off my checked luggage.
9G400 Review & Recommendation

Similar to flight 9G401 from Incheon to Ho Chi Minh City, this was a medium-sized aircraft with a 3-3 seating configuration. Interestingly, this time, blankets were already placed on each seat, which was a welcome addition!

The seats themselves are on the thinner side, so I'd say the 4-hour flight between Incheon and Ho Chi Minh City is probably the maximum comfortable duration. While there aren't individual seat-back monitors, you can connect to the in-flight Wi-Fi service to stream movies or TV shows on your personal tablet or smartphone.

For a traveler around 5 feet 3 inches tall, the seat pitch allowed enough space to comfortably fit a hand sideways. My travel companion, who is about 5 feet 11 inches tall, did find his knees touching the seat in front, but he mentioned it wasn't particularly uncomfortable.

I fell asleep almost immediately after boarding, so I don't have any photos of the in-flight meal. However, considering that Sun Phu Quoc Air offers a similar price point to other budget airlines like Vietjet (typically around ~$148 - ~$222) but includes checked baggage, an in-flight meal, and a fantastic flight schedule, I would absolutely fly with them again for my next Ho Chi Minh City adventure!
