Star Ferry Hong Kong Guide 2026: Timetable & Fares

While traveling in Hong Kong,

I hopped on the ferry quite a few times!

1. Hong Kong Island (Central) <-> Kowloon Peninsula (Tsim Sha Tsui)

2. Wan Chai <-> Kowloon Peninsula (Tsim Sha Tsui)

They currently run these two routes! haha

Usually starting around 6:30 AM

and running until 11:30 PM, giving you plenty of time.

The intervals are only about 10 minutes,

so you can hop on almost immediately! lol

Hong Kong Island (Central) <-> Kowloon Peninsula (Tsim Sha Tsui)

Fares vary between weekdays and weekends,

and there's a slight difference between the upper and lower decks!

But even so, it's only about HKD 6 to 7 for an adult,

meaning you can get across incredibly cheap!

Taking a double-decker bus over to Tsim Sha Tsui,

grabbing a few drinks,

and heading back on the ferry while soaking in the night views! That's the ultimate route!

Since we're heading back to Central on Hong Kong Island,

all we have to do is follow the signs on the ceiling!

Because the fares for the upper and lower decks are different,

the paths are split up! haha 😂

If you're looking to enjoy the night views, I highly recommend the upper deck!!! 🌃

The signs are super clear,

so you can just easily follow them.

But like I mentioned earlier...

the ferry runs about every 10 minutes.

I wondered, "Can they really fill this up? The boat is huge!"

But...

It was absolutely packed with people! 😲

hahaha

There are three main ways to pay:

Octopus card, E-payment, and QR Code.

I went with the Octopus card! Let's go!

They accept Octopus, tokens, tickets, Alipay, and more.

I highly recommend buying it on Klook beforehand because

it already comes preloaded with HKD 50,

so you don't need to top it up right away!

Airport Pickup!!!!

You can pick it up as soon as you step off the plane, which makes things incredibly convenient.

And since it works just like a transit card,

you can use it to pay at most restaurants,

making it

so unbelievably convenient...

To pay with your Octopus card,

just tap it on this orange reader!

Look at the crowd at this hour! Is this for real?

You can actually change the direction of these seatbacks! haha

Maybe they made them as hard wooden seats

because the ride only takes about 10 minutes...?

When you're watching the night view, you'll see so many of these little yachts.

Next time, I definitely want to book a yacht cruise

to enjoy the night skyline! haha

It's about a 45-minute ride and includes food/drinks.

They have different options depending on the time:

Sunset, Symphony of Lights, or Night Cruise.

Personally, I'd highly recommend the Sunset or Night Cruise!!

we actually just missed the boat ㅠㅠ

Since we tried the upper deck at night,

we decided to go with the lower deck for the daytime ride!!

We honestly just chose the lower deck because we'd already done the upper deck,

but oh my gosh...

It blocks all the direct sunlight and it's SO much better and cooler than expected;;;;;;;;

Highly recommended!!

The vibe is completely different

from seeing it at night.........

But the smog was seriously unreal on this day...
