Speedy's Sandwich Bar London: Sherlock Filming Spot 2026
Experience the magic of Sherlock Holmes at Speedy's Sandwich Bar & Cafe, an iconic London filming location. Enjoy a tasty, affordable English breakfast and soak in the show's history.

If you're a devoted fan of the BBC's 'Sherlock,' then a visit to Speedy's Sandwich Bar & Cafe is probably high on your London bucket list. Well, I finally made it!
I'd seen some reviews mentioning the food wasn't great, which made me a little hesitant. But honestly, it seems they've taken feedback to heart because I found it surprisingly good! Considering London's prices, it offers fantastic value for money and genuinely tasty grub.

This cozy little cafe famously sits right next to the fictional 221B Baker Street, Sherlock and Watson's iconic residence in the show. It pops up quite often in scenes, making it instantly recognizable to fans.

Of course, 221B Baker Street isn't a real address; the actual building is at 187 North Gower Street. Since it's a residential property, I can only imagine the sheer volume of tourists it attracted during Sherlock's peak popularity, likely causing quite a bit of disruption for the residents.
When I visited, it had been about nine years since the final season of Sherlock aired (the last episode was in January 2017). As a result, the overwhelming crowds of tourists had subsided, and the place was mostly filled with locals enjoying their morning coffee and breakfast.
📍 Speedy's Sandwich Bar & Cafe
187 N Gower St, Euston Rd., London NW1 2NJ, UK
🕐Opening Hours: Monday-Saturday: 6:00 AM - 3:30 PM, Closed Sundays
You might expect it to be near Baker Street, but it's actually located closer to Euston Square Station. If you're planning to visit the Sherlock Holmes Museum, be aware it's a bit of a trek from Speedy's – about a 26-minute walk or a quick 10-minute tube ride.

The cafe itself is quite small and cozy, though it felt a touch more spacious than it appears on screen in the show.
The interior and layout have naturally evolved over the years, especially since it's been nearly a decade since the last season. It makes you wonder if we'll ever get a Season 5, doesn't it?

One wall is adorned with a fantastic collection of behind-the-scenes photos from when 'Sherlock' was being filmed there.

Just being at the actual filming location is cool enough, but seeing those candid photos from the set really adds a unique, almost surreal feeling to the experience.
I noticed a fellow Sherlock fan at a nearby table, meticulously capturing photos, clearly as thrilled as I was to be there!

Remember that iconic shot from Season 2? It looks like it was definitely filmed from just beyond what appears to be a staff-only door by the window, giving it that perfect angle.

The display counter showcased fresh ingredients and a tempting array of breads for their brunch offerings. Everything looked incredibly fresh, and the staff were genuinely friendly.

Considering London's notorious prices, the menu here is surprisingly good value! They do have a 'Sherlock and Watson' set, but honestly, it didn't seem to offer anything particularly unique beyond the name.

I'd heard their cappuccino was fantastic, so I ordered one along with an orange juice. Both were absolutely delicious!
One thing I love about ordering juice in the UK is that it's almost always fresh-squeezed and bursting with real fruit flavor. So good!

For brunch, I went with the Mixed Grill, which was 8.30 pounds (around ~$10). The potatoes might look a little plain in the picture, but trust me, they were perfectly crispy and seasoned – absolutely delicious!
No matter what anyone says about British food, they truly know how to make a proper English breakfast!

The toast that came with the brunch set was perfectly acceptable, nothing groundbreaking but a solid addition.

And then there was the Bolognese pasta, priced at 11 pounds (about ~$14). Oh, how I wish I'd read those reviews advising against ordering the pasta! Honestly, I could whip up a more satisfying bolognese at home. My advice? Stick to the sandwiches and breakfast items!

Despite the pasta hiccup, if you're a Sherlock fan, this spot is absolutely worth a visit. Not only can you soak in the atmosphere of a real-life filming location, but you also get to experience a slice of London's authentic, cozy cafe culture.
