As a couple who takes our coffee seriously, finding the perfect cafe while traveling is always a top priority for us.

When we're on the hunt, we typically search Google Maps for 'roastery' and then filter by places with stellar reviews. Why? Because coffee shops that roast their own beans almost always guarantee a delicious cup.

On our recent trip to Porto, we did just that, saving a few spots before heading out for a meal and then making our way to one for our post-lunch caffeine fix.

1. Porto's Coffee Gem: So Coffee Roasters

It turns out there are about three So Coffee Roasters locations, but I'm focusing on the one we visited. This particular branch is a little off the main city center, but honestly, Porto isn't a huge city, so it's not a significant trek.

Still, I recommend checking Google Maps and choosing the location closest to your itinerary for convenience.

One thing to note: the sign can be a bit tricky to spot. The small sign above my head in the picture is pretty much all there is, so you might walk right past it if you're not looking carefully!

2. So Coffee Roasters Menu & Vibe

These days, with Starbucks popping up all over Europe, finding an iced Americano isn't as rare as it once was. However, in many local European cafes, the beloved iced Americano can still be a bit of a unicorn.

But let's be real, with European summers getting scorching hot (especially in 2026!), an iced coffee is often a necessity.

An iced Americano here will run you about €3.50.

Porto is a city brimming with old, historic buildings, yet it's fascinating how many cafes, including this one, boast surprisingly modern interiors. We even found another cafe with a sleek design where we could get an iced Americano.

The cafe itself was quite spacious, but the inner tables were packed with customers, so these photos are all I managed to snap. We ended up just grabbing our coffees to go. The interior has a familiar, modern feel, almost like a trendy cafe you'd find back home.

It's quite a contrast to find such a clean, contemporary cafe nestled among Porto's charmingly aged buildings!

I'm not sure if the person making our coffee was the owner, but they weren't overly friendly. Not unfriendly either, just a general observation that Porto seemed a bit less outwardly jovial compared to our experiences in Spain.

3. Your Quest for Iced Americano in Porto Ends Here

As for the taste, it definitely got our approval. We're used to excellent coffee, so it wasn't a mind-blowing, 'best coffee ever' experience, but it was certainly a high-quality brew. In Europe, outside of Italy, it's all too common to find coffee that's just bitter and lacking in flavor.

My only minor complaint? Why do European cafes often give you such a tiny amount of ice in an iced Americano? My ice cubes melted away far too quickly!

Nevertheless, So Coffee Roasters is a fantastic spot to pop into if you stumble upon it while exploring Porto. It's a reliable choice for a great cup of coffee, especially if you're craving that perfect iced Americano.
