Planning your Porto trip and looking into winery tours?
It can be super confusing with so many options, right?
At first, I thought winery tours in Porto were just about
wine tasting in the city. But guess what?
There are also tours that take you all the way to the Douro Valley!

If you're going to do it, I highly recommend
visiting the vineyards where the wine is actually made!
I remember on a Mont Saint-Michel tour in France,
our guide explained so much about wine,
and it was truly fascinating and fun!

Plus, I have such fond memories of drinking delicious wine,
so if I ever go to Portugal, I'd definitely sign up for this kind of tour too! Haha.
This time, I'm going to tell you all about the "Odaga-Ga Douro Valley Tour" – from the itinerary
to pricing and how to book with a discount! :D
1. Porto Winery Tours

Porto winery tours generally fall into two categories:
city wine cellar tours and Douro Valley countryside tours.
Wine cellars near Porto city center,
like Taylor's, Calem, and Graham's,
focus on wine aging facilities and tasting.

On the other hand, a Douro Valley tour takes you directly to the actual vineyards and
wine production sites.
That's why if you have a day to spare in your Porto itinerary,
I highly recommend the Douro Valley tour!
Not only do you get to explore the vineyards and learn about the wine-making process,
but you can also enjoy a boat tour on the Douro River.

2. Tour Pricing

The tour I'm talking about today is the
Odaga-Ga Douro Valley Small Group Tour.
The booking price on MyRealTrip is
~$134 per adult.

This price includes a Korean-speaking guide, private transportation,
a local lunch, and even a Rabelo boat tour.
For me, the Korean-speaking guide was the biggest draw! (My English isn't the best, so this is a lifesaver!)

Here's something important to know!
The cost for winery visits and tastings must be
paid separately on-site, which is 50 Euros.
So, the actual total tour cost is
~$134 plus 50 Euros.

While it might not seem like the cheapest tour at first glance,
it's a small group experience with a maximum of 8 people,
and it includes visits to two wineries.
It's also worth considering that you won't need to worry about local transportation and restaurants yourself,
which is a huge plus!

4. Two Winery Tastings
One of the most exciting things about this tour is that you get to visit
both a large winery and a smaller, more intimate one!!

First, at the larger winery,
you'll learn about the production process of both Port wine and regular wines.
You'll get to taste a total of 5 wines: two glasses of table wine and three glasses of Port wine.

The second stop is a family-run,
small-scale winery that has been operating for generations.
You'll explore traditional production methods and
the winery museum, and also enjoy
five glasses of Port wine along with additional tastings.

I heard it's fun to compare the differences between the two wineries,
so I'm super excited about this tour too!!
Especially for those who, like me, don't know much about wine,
there's no need to worry because it's a Korean-speaking tour, not an English one~!
Even though I only briefly learned about wine in Paris, it was fascinating,
so to hear various stories about wine here... I'm so excited...!

5. Douro River Boat Tour

It's not just continuous wine tasting,
you also get to ride a boat on the Douro River!!
It's a boat that has been converted for tourism
from a traditional Portuguese vessel called a Rabelo.

For about an hour, as you travel along the river,
you can admire the surrounding vineyards and winery landscapes.
And you'll also stop at the Douro Valley viewpoint
to capture photos of the sprawling vineyards.
What a moment to breathe in the fresh air on a boat after wine tasting!!
Doesn't that sound absolutely amazing?? Haha
6. Lunch

What I also loved about this tour was that
lunch was included.
The itinerary includes enjoying traditional Portuguese-style
beef steak and house wine at a local restaurant.

Finding a restaurant and
even choosing a menu can be quite a task when you're traveling, right? Lol
Especially on a suburban tour where time is limited,
a package including lunch is really convenient.
Everyone knows that steak and wine is an unbeatable combination, right?
7. My Experience with the Small Group Tour

What caught my eye about this tour from the start was
that it's a small group of up to 8 people.
The atmosphere is definitely different from a large group tour
where many people move together in a big bus, right?

Looking at actual reviews,
there were particularly many positive comments about guides Jeongho and Jinsol.
They apparently make the wine explanations really fun
and even take great photos!! (So excited...!)
Also, even if you don't know much about wine, you can fully enjoy it,
and they take good care of solo travelers too~!

When I heard the wine explanations in France,
it was much more interesting than just drinking it.
That's why these kind of professional guided tours
appeal to me even more, haha.

8. Booking Tips and Recommendations

The tour operates with 8 AM or 9 AM departure options.
The meeting point is next to Porto Cathedral,
at the Equestrian Statue of Vímara Peres.
The minimum number of participants for departure is 4,
and wine tasting is available for those aged 18 and over.

Just a heads-up: the on-site tasting fee of 50 Euros
needs to be prepared in cash beforehand.
Since the Douro Valley can be hotter than Porto city in summer and colder in winter,
make sure to pack weather-appropriate clothing!

So, to wrap things up, for anyone traveling to Porto who
loves wine or wants to truly dive deep into the local culture,
I wholeheartedly recommend this tour!!
Why settle for just city wineries when you can visit actual vineyards and production sites,
*plus* enjoy a fantastic boat tour?

And even if you're not a wine connoisseur,
with a Korean-speaking guide,
you can still compare and discover different wines!
If your Porto itinerary allows,
why not dedicate a whole day to the enchanting Douro Valley?
