Everyone raves about Porto as their absolute favorite travel destination, and honestly,
I was truly agonizing over how many nights to stay.
I'm all about soaking up the atmosphere at a relaxed pace,
so I opted for a 4-night, 5-day trip (which felt like a leisurely 3.5 days of exploration!),
simply wandering around and enjoying every moment.
Having experienced it firsthand, Porto itself is such a charming and compact city that
if you're short on time, 2 days can be surprisingly fulfilling,
but for a truly unhurried experience, I wholeheartedly recommend a 3 or 4-night stay!

From must-visit spots perfect for your travel itinerary,
to my top accommodation recommendations if you're still searching for a place to stay,
I've detailed everything, so if your curiosity is piqued, dive in! :)
Porto Accommodation: Where to Stay?
Porto's accommodation scene generally falls into two distinct areas:
Douro River Area Accommodation → Perfect for view-lovers & honeymooners
Bolhão Market & Lello Bookstore Area → For value-seekers & those prioritizing location

I personally split my stay: 2 nights near Bolhão Market,
and 2 nights at a riverside accommodation in the Gaia area!

My top recommendation near Bolhão Market is Europo Downtown!
First off, it's incredibly spacious, almost unbelievably so!
The price is also quite affordable, ranging from ~$74 to ~$148 per night.
With separate kitchen, bedroom, and living areas, it feels wonderfully open and never cramped.
And being right on Santa Catarina Street? Absolute perfection! 😉
It's particularly fantastic for travelers in their 30s (who appreciate a midday break back at base),
or for family adventures – the location couldn't be better!

Dreaming of a Porto River View? River Soul Hotel is Your Answer!
As a relatively new spot, the facilities are top-notch,
and the views? Simply, utterly breathtaking! 😉
Just sipping wine on the terrace in the evening is pure bliss,
and with the city's best wineries clustered in the Gaia area,
my itinerary for that day effortlessly flowed from a winery visit to Morro Garden and then a monastery.
Just by relaxing and soaking in the views, the romance was absolutely off the charts!
If you opt for a river view, the price ranges from ~$222-~$296,
it's a bit of an investment, but absolutely worth it for a honeymoon!

Top Places to Explore in Porto
Exploring Porto's City Center

📍 Bolhão Market
R. Formosa 322, 4000-248 Porto, Portugal
The very first place I stopped on day one, right after checking into my accommodation, was
Bolhão Market – an absolute must-visit for every traveler.
You can find everything from a casual glass of wine, delicious desserts, and unique souvenirs,
to beautiful flower bouquets perfect for a spontaneous photoshoot!
Despite being a bustling market, I was impressed by how incredibly clean and well-maintained it was.
Plus, the second floor is packed with fantastic eateries, making it a great spot for a meal.

📍 Chapel of Souls (Capela das Almas)
R. de Santa Catarina 428, 4000-444 Porto, Portugal
Just a minute's walk from Bolhão Market,
you'll find the iconic Chapel of Souls (Capela das Almas) with its mesmerizing blue-tiled exterior – truly the first image that comes to mind when I think of Porto!
If you're dreaming of capturing stunning photos here, make sure to arrive early in the morning.
That way, you can still capture incredible shots without the crowds.

📍 Fabrica da Nata
R. de Santa Catarina 331 335, 4000-451 Porto, Portugal
After visiting the Chapel of Souls, head straight down the street below,
and you'll discover the famous shopping haven, Santa Catarina Street!
It's packed with fantastic shops like Zara and Massimo Dutti,
and two of the "Top 3 Natas" are located right here.
Fabrica da Nata and Manteigaria.
(Castro is a little further away, though!)
If you're curious about Porto's historic Majestic Cafe,
it's also on this street, so definitely check it out!

You'll find photographers scattered throughout the street, ready to capture your moments.
If you spot "Old Press Porto," definitely get a photo taken!
It operates on a tip-based system, so you can pay what you feel is right.
They take wonderful photos and make for fantastic souvenirs!

📍 Porto City Hall
PC GEN Humberto Delgado, 4049-001 Porto, Portugal
📍 McDonald's
Praça da Liberdade 126, 4000-322 Porto, Portugal
Nearby, you'll find the majestic City Hall, surrounded by impressive architecture.
In front of the City Hall, there's a "Porto" sign where
it's wonderful to snap a commemorative photo!
And don't miss the Porto McDonald's, often called "the most beautiful McDonald's in the world."
Be sure to check it out! :)
(Though, honestly, I'm not entirely sure it lives up to the hype personally!)

📍 Porto - São Bento Station
Praça de Almeida Garrett, 4000-069 Porto, Portugal
São Bento Station, one of the first train stations that comes to mind when you think of Porto,
boasts beautiful yellow and blue tiles.
While the main station connecting Lisbon and Porto is Campanhã Station,
I actually just explored São Bento for its stunning visuals.

📍 Time Out Market Porto
Ala Sul da Estação Ferroviária de São Bento, Praça de Almeida Garrett, 4000-069 Porto, Portugal
It's connected right next to Time Out Market, making it easy to visit both.
Time Out Market feels more like a vibrant food court,
quite different from the traditional Bolhão Market.
Here's a golden tip for you: on the second floor of Time Out Market,
you'll find clean, free public restrooms!
You know how incredibly useful that is when you're traveling, right? 😉

📍 Porto Cathedral
Terreiro da Sé, 4050-573 Porto, Portugal
Porto Cathedral is quite impressive in size, more so than you might expect,
making it perfect for a leisurely stroll and exploration around the area.
And a fantastic route is to cross the upper deck of the Dom Luís I Bridge from here!

📍 Ribeira Square
Praça Ribeira, Ribeira, Porto, Portugal
For breathtaking river views, Ribeira Square is the place to be.
It's connected to the lower deck of the Dom Luís I Bridge,
so it's a great idea to take a leisurely walk across to the other side and back.
The Dom Luís I Bridge has two levels: the upper level for trams,
and the lower level for cars.
Both levels have pedestrian walkways, so you can easily walk across.
It's a great tip to walk across on the lower level and return on the upper level for different perspectives!

📍 Palácio da Bolsa
Palácio da Bolsa, R. de Ferreira Borges 11, 4050-253 Porto, Portugal
📍 Rua de Ferreira Borges
R. de Ferreira Borges, 4050-253 Porto, Portugal
With a relaxed schedule, I was wondering where to go next and stumbled upon the Bolsa Palace.
This is a place where an internal guide explains things in English every hour,
allowing you to explore various parts of the palace.
When I entered the room designed with an Islamic feel,
Oh... the atmosphere was quite overwhelming, which made it a refreshing experience.
While it was a bit disappointing that I couldn't understand everything the English guide said,
if you have a strong interest in architecture, it's definitely worth a visit!

These three spots are also clustered together, making them perfect for a combined visit.
The Carmo Church, much like the Capela das Almas Church I mentioned earlier,
is a grand cathedral beautifully adorned with blue tiles.
The vibe on this street is absolutely wonderful! 😄
📍 Carmo Church
R. do Carmo, 4050-164 Porto, Portugal
📍 Wine Shop
R. do Carmo 17, 4050-456 Porto, Portugal
📍 Livraria Lello
R. das Carmelitas 144, 4050-161 Porto, Portugal
Livraria Lello is already famous as the 'Harry Potter bookstore,' isn't it?
You'll need to book your tickets in advance here,
and since there's an entrance fee, you might want to consider it carefully before deciding!
The wine shop nearby is famous in Porto for selling affordable Port wine,
and their packaging is very secure.
I recommend visiting the wineries in the Gaia area first to discover your preferred taste,
then coming back here to choose and purchase your wine.

📍 Rua das Flores
R. das Flores, Porto, Portugal
And another street I'd love to introduce you to is Rua das Flores.
It's packed with charming souvenir shops selling famous paint-tube jams, sardine cans, and more.
It's a street you'll undoubtedly pass through at least once during your trip!
Gaia Region Travel Itinerary
The travel itinerary in Gaia is quite straightforward!
Start with a tour at Taylor's Winery, located right in the city.
Then, relax at Jardim do Morro, and cap it off by watching the sunset from the viewpoint – it's absolutely perfect!
Even with this itinerary, you'll find you have plenty of time,
so it's a great idea to spend your morning exploring the Porto area,
then cross over to the Gaia region around lunchtime!

Initially, I planned to go on an out-of-town winery tour,
but their departures weren't daily, so the timing didn't work out for me.
📍 Taylor's Winery
Rua do Choupelo 250, 4400-088 Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal
That's when I looked into wineries right in the city.
While there are other options like Graham's and Sandeman,
I highly recommend Taylor's because it offers Korean language support!
It's quite large with expansive vineyards, and best of all,
it includes a tasting of three different Port wines, making it the perfect place to visit
before you buy some Port wine as a souvenir!

📍 Jardim do Morro
4430-210 Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal
Jardim do Morro has an absolutely incredible atmosphere, even if you just sit there!
I made sure to pack a lightweight mat from Korea,
and just sat there, gazing idly at the scenery. :)
It's great for busking and everything, but I really don't recommend snacks.
The seagulls will aggressively swoop down and snatch them away... ^.^
It's genuinely terrifying how startling they are..... haha!

📍 Serra do Pilar Viewpoint
Largo Aviz, 4430-999 Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal
This is a fantastic spot to take photos with the Dom Luís I Bridge in the background,
and it gets incredibly crowded, especially around sunset!
While I was in Porto, I actually did a photoshoot and found a less crowded viewpoint below the main observation deck,
so I didn't go to this specific spot.
If you want to get a prime spot for sunset photos, you'll probably need to go a bit early.
To Wrap Things Up
During my 4-night, 5-day stay in Porto, I explored so many nooks and crannies,
and even after seeing so much, I want to go back again.
Porto truly is a destination where the city's vibe is just wonderful.
With all its charming hills, definitely pack comfortable sneakers when you visit!
If you take in the stunning night views and indulge in all the delicious food,
I'm sure you'll come home with lasting happy memories :)
