Sky Gem Hotel Ho Chi Minh Review 2026: A Well-Priced Stay

After a string of ultra-budget accommodations, I decided it was time for a little upgrade. For my recent two-night stay in Ho Chi Minh City, I opted for a hotel that offered a bit more comfort without breaking the bank.

This time, my primary focus wasn't just the price tag (though I definitely steered clear of anything ridiculously expensive!). Instead, I prioritized location, looking for a spot that felt just right.

My previous Ho Chi Minh stay was near the bustling Bui Vien Walking Street, so I wanted to explore a different vibe. That's when I rediscovered a favorite open space – what's officially known as Nguyen Hue Walking Street – and decided to find a hotel right in its vicinity.

Nguyen Hue Walking Street is perfect for a leisurely stroll; it's wide and long, offering plenty of space. As a large public square, it comes alive at night with people gathering for all sorts of activities. I've always enjoyed just sitting on a bench, soaking in the atmosphere, so settling on a hotel nearby was an easy decision!

And that's how I landed on the Sky Gem Hotel.

The lobby is compact but features a small café (which I didn't get a chance to try, sadly!).

One feature I really appreciated was the outdoor waiting area. It seemed perfect for waiting on a Grab ride or just taking a moment. (Though, to be honest, I stepped out, felt the Ho Chi Minh heat, and quickly retreated back inside!)

I recall arriving just after 12:00 PM, and to my delight, I was able to check in immediately and head straight to my room. It seems like all the Ho Chi Minh hotels I've stayed at recently have been quite accommodating with early check-ins. It's fantastic to check out of one place at noon, head straight to the next, drop off my bags, and then start exploring!

Unlike the more basic, budget-friendly spots I'd been staying in, this room had a lovely, warm wooden aesthetic – a welcome change!

The room felt spacious, with a separate toilet and shower, and even a bathtub right in the main room area.

Even the table continued the cozy wooden theme.

Now, for the next day: breakfast! Since my stay included breakfast, I was eager to check it out.

Waking up to the morning sun, I almost overslept and missed breakfast entirely! I made it just in the nick of time before they closed. As for the breakfast itself...

Considering the cozy, wooden ambiance of the room and the slightly higher price point compared to some other Ho Chi Minh hotels, I had certain expectations.

And well...

The selection of food and the seating area were surprisingly limited. Quite remarkably so.

After a quick bite, I noticed the pool outside and decided to take a peek. The pool was also quite small.

If I tried to capture it in an 'aspirational' way, it could almost pass for a chic rooftop pool, right? Haha!

But here's the reality shot! The view itself isn't bad, it's just that the pool is rather compact.

Oh, one final word of caution!

In that outdoor waiting area, there's a large, platform-like bench. You can sit on it.

But you need to sit right in the middle.

Seriously, sit in the middle!
