Sherlock Holmes Museum London: Booking & Shop Tips
Is the Sherlock Holmes Museum in London worth the ticket price? Get booking tips, ticket costs, and a tour of the incredible 221B Baker Street gift shop.

Calling all Sherlock Holmes fans! 🕵🏻♂️
If you have binged the BBC Sherlock series multiple times like I have, a pilgrimage to London's Baker Street is probably high on your travel bucket list.
During my trip to London, I made sure to check out everything related to the legendary detective. But here is an honest take on what is actually worth your time and money.

First, a quick clarification: the Sherlock Holmes Museum is styled after the original novels by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, recreating the Victorian home of Sherlock and Dr. Watson, rather than the modern BBC adaptation.
📍 The Sherlock Holmes Museum
221b Baker St, London NW1 6XE, United Kingdom
📍 Address: 221b Baker St, London NW1 6XE
🕛 Hours: Monday–Sunday, 9:30 AM–6:00 PM
How to Get There

The museum is just a short 4-minute walk from Baker Street Station. Before you head inside, make sure to snap a photo with the iconic Sherlock Holmes statue right outside the station exit.

You can tell how many travelers have rubbed his shoes for good luck—the toes are polished to a bright bronze! 😂
Booking Tickets: Is the Museum Worth It?

Even on a weekday afternoon, the queue outside 221B Baker Street can get quite long. While walk-ins are allowed, booking your tickets online in advance is highly recommended to secure your spot.
Book tickets online via the official Sherlock Holmes Museum website

Note that the London Pass is not accepted here. You must purchase tickets directly from their official site, and they aren't exactly cheap:
Adults: £19 (~$25)
Seniors, Students, and Disabled Visitors: £17 (~$22)
Children (Ages 6–15): £14 (~$18)
Under 6: Free
Guided entry runs every 15 minutes. Crucial tip: Even if you book online, you cannot walk straight to the entrance. You must first go to the gift shop next door to exchange your digital voucher for a physical ticket.

To be completely honest, after looking at the ticket prices and reading countless reviews online, I decided to skip the museum tour. Many visitors noted that unless you are a die-hard fan of the original books, the gift shop alone is more than satisfying.

If your love for Sherlock stems purely from the BBC TV show (which was filmed elsewhere in London), you might find the Victorian book-recreation museum a bit disconnected. My advice? Skip the steep ticket price and spend your time (and money) in the incredible gift shop instead!

Bonus: You can still take a free photo with the friendly guard dressed in a traditional Victorian police uniform standing outside 221B!
Inside the Sherlock Holmes Gift Shop

The gift shop next door is completely free to enter, usually has no queue, and is packed with amazing memorabilia.

As soon as you walk in, you'll see these adorable Sherlock Holmes teddy bears. They are a bit pricey, but absolutely irresistible!
Small Bear: £29.50 (~$38)
Large Bear: £42 (~$54)
The large one is surprisingly big, so I opted for the smaller one to easily fit in my luggage.

They also sell beautifully bound editions of the original novels, fountain pens, and leather-bound journals that look straight out of 221B Baker Street.

The deeper you go into the shop, the more crowded it gets. The most popular corner is definitely where the classic deerstalker hats are displayed.

Even if you don't plan on buying one, you are free to try them on and snap a fun photo in front of the mirrors! 📸

And yes, they do have a nod to the BBC series with the iconic "I AM SHERLOCKED" merchandise!

I loved these custom mugs, but at £20 (~$26) each, I had to pass. Spending that much on a single mug felt a bit steep!

However, I highly recommend picking up one of these pocket watches! At £22 (~$28), they make for a gorgeous, unique keepsake. The display model looks a bit worn out, but the brand-new ones in the box are incredibly shiny and beautiful.

They also sell themed tea tins, but you're mostly paying for the tin itself. If you want high-quality British tea, you're better off visiting Fortnum & Mason or Harrods.

The t-shirts and novelty hats are fun, but maybe a bit too bold for everyday wear back home!

These cute little hand-crank music boxes are super budget-friendly at £6 (~$8) each, or two for £10 (~$13). I hoped they would play the BBC Sherlock theme, but they only play classics like "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Birthday." Still a sweet gift!

There is also an amazing variety of keyrings which make perfect, affordable souvenirs for friends and family.

Near the counter, you'll find higher-end items like themed spirits, brass magnifying glasses, and vintage-style teapots.

Ultimately, I walked away with a pocket watch, three keyrings, and a mini Sherlock teddy bear. Honestly, skipping the museum and spending that budget on cool souvenirs at the gift shop was the perfect call for me!
If you're planning a trip to London, definitely stop by Baker Street to see the statue and explore the gift shop next to 221B!
