Our latest family adventure took us to Inje, Gangwon-do province, in South Korea. We were looking for a place to truly unwind and reconnect with nature, and after some deliberation, we decided on the Seoraksan Ecological Exploration Center.

Operated by the Korea National Park Service, this accommodation offers incredibly clean facilities and the perfect setting for a healing escape amidst the wilderness. What really sealed the deal for us was the amazing value, even during the peak summer season!

Another huge perk? It's only about a 40-minute drive to Sokcho, allowing us to easily combine our Inje trip with some coastal fun in Sokcho. Yangyang is also just about 50 minutes away!

Reservations typically open on the 1st of the month preceding your desired stay, at 2:00 PM KST. These spots are highly coveted and tend to fill up fast! I actually managed to snag a cancellation spot by checking the site whenever I had a moment.

Honestly, I hadn't even planned a trip to Gangwon-do this year, but once I scored a reservation at the Seoraksan Ecological Exploration Center, I immediately started mapping out our itinerary! Lol.

I mean, seriously, a 4-person room for ~$55 on a summer weekend? And if you have multiple children, you even get an additional 10% discount upon check-in. How could I possibly pass that up?!

These programs are incredibly affordable, costing less than ~$7, making them a fantastic way for families with children to engage with nature.

We signed up for the Sibiseonnyeo-tang Summer Hiking program, but unfortunately, we couldn't participate due to heavy rain and a change in our schedule. A bit of a bummer, but still a great option!

Our 4-Person Room (General View) and Facilities at Seoraksan Ecological Exploration Center

The Seoraksan Ecological Exploration Center truly feels like it's nestled deep within nature. The air itself felt different – so refreshing!

The parking lot is spacious, making it easy to park and unload our luggage.

While my husband and I were busy with the bags, our son was already embracing nature, proudly showing us a grasshopper he caught!

Inside the center, there's also an auditorium and classrooms, so it's not uncommon to see small groups or organized tours.

As a family of four, we opted for the 4-person room with a general view.

The room is designed like a family suite, with a separate bedroom, bathroom, and living area, providing plenty of space for us and the kids. It was perfect for enjoying a beer with my husband in the living room after the kids were asleep!

I've also stayed at the Bukhansan Ecological Exploration Center before, which had a studio layout. Seoraksan's rooms, with their separated spaces, definitely felt more spacious.

There were two large beds, and we easily pushed them together to create a family-sized sleeping area, ensuring a comfortable night's sleep for everyone.

They also provided plenty of extra bedding, so we never had to worry about running out.

Beyond the comfy beds, the room came equipped with a TV, air conditioning, towels, a hairdryer, hangers, a refrigerator, and even slippers. Everything we needed was there, making it feel like we could just show up with our clothes and enjoy!

Having the shower and toilet separated was a huge plus, especially when everyone was getting ready in the morning.

Since there aren't many restaurants nearby, we picked up some food in Sokcho on our way back to the center.

You can't skip the joy of delicious food while traveling, so we made sure to grab plenty of tasty treats!

During the day, we took advantage of being just a 40-minute drive from Sokcho to explore its beautiful beaches. In the evenings, we returned to the peaceful and quiet atmosphere of our accommodation for a truly relaxing rest.

The lobby area is also incredibly spacious.

There's truly so much to do right at the accommodation itself!

I didn't get a chance to snap photos of the dining area, but it's important to know that cooking is generally not allowed at the Ecological Exploration Center. You can bring pre-prepared meals or food that can be heated in a microwave.

It rained for both nights of our trip, but thankfully, umbrellas were available for rent, which made things super convenient!

Overall Impressions

The Seoraksan Ecological Exploration Center was a fantastic choice for our family trip. Its location, allowing us to relax in nature while also easily exploring Sokcho, was a major highlight.

Just remember to book in advance through the National Park Service reservation system, be aware that cooking isn't permitted, and you'll need to select an ecological program. Keeping these points in mind will ensure a smooth and enjoyable stay.
