Sapa Chill Retreat Review 2026: Cozy City Stay in Vietnam

For our Sapa trip, we decided to spend one night in the city center.

But guess what?

There were just too many hotels to choose from...!

This trip included

five adults, including my

parents in their 60s.

Instead of a famous large hotel like KK Hotel,

we were looking for an eco-friendly yet

budget-friendly accommodation right in the city center.

And the place we chose was...

What We Loved About This Hotel

When I choose accommodation, I consider the atmosphere just as important as the location.

Sapa Chill Retreat had an overall wooden aesthetic, with a charming small garden and lush green vibes that perfectly complemented Sapa.

The rooms with panoramic mountain views through floor-to-ceiling windows were particularly impressive, and I chose it thinking my parents would enjoy a peaceful rest there.

It felt like a perfect fit for those seeking atmospheric Sapa accommodation rather than a place with many extravagant facilities like a large resort.

📍Prime Location Near Sapa Square

Super close to Sapa Square, where you catch the Fansipan cable car!

Once we stayed, the most convenient aspect was definitely the location!

It was incredibly close – just about a 3-minute walk from the accommodation to Sapa Square. It was so close it felt almost embarrassing to even open Google Maps, haha! The path isn't complicated; you simply head down from the hotel entrance and follow the downhill path, and you'll arrive in no time.

After dropping off our luggage, we immediately headed to catch the Fansipan cable car (at Sapa Square), and its proximity to the Sapa city center made planning our itinerary a breeze.

Since we were traveling with my parents, the hotel's location was a top priority, and it certainly met our expectations.

2. Our Actual Room Review

Since there were 5 of us,

we booked a total of two rooms.

(A double and a triple room)

The first room was...

With one **king-sized bed and a separate single bed in an inner space**, it was perfect for my sister's couple and me to share.

There was an outlet next to the single bed in the inner space, and the area was slightly separated, which was great because it gave me a little 'me-time' to relax. Hehe!

What truly captured my heart was the lush green scenery visible from the window next to the bathtub – absolutely stunning! Unfortunately, I couldn't use the bathtub because of our schedule... 😥

Secondly, for my parents' room,

But then, an unexpected issue popped up with my parents' room... ㅠㅠ

It turned out they were assigned a **Deluxe Queen Room**, instead of the **Mountain View Designer Room** I had booked.

When I asked the staff, they explained that the room type was incorrectly communicated during the reservation transfer process, and the Designer Room was already occupied by another guest. So, in the end, we couldn't stay in that room... I was really looking forward to it because **it looked so beautiful in the photos**, so that was a bummer.

However, the staff member was incredibly kind and helpful in checking the situation for us. They contacted Trip.com, where I made the booking, and we ultimately received the room difference back in cash (Vietnamese Dong) on the spot, plus some compensation in points.

The assigned **Deluxe Queen Room** had a king-sized bed, and what made it different from the triple room was that it didn't have the inner space with a single bed, and it featured a shower booth instead of a bathtub.

3. Breakfast & Early Check-in Tips

It wasn't a buffet; instead, you could order one menu item from a selection of **egg dishes, pho, baguette and toast, or pancakes**, and they would prepare it fresh for you. For drinks, there was coffee and tea available for you to help yourself.

While the variety wasn't extensive, it was definitely enough for a simple, warm breakfast before starting our day of sightseeing.

About Early Check-in

We took a **sleeping train (night train)** and arrived at Lao Cai Station. From there, we traveled to our accommodation with a pre-booked **pickup car**, and arrived around **7:40 AM**.

When traveling to Sapa, it's common to arrive early in the morning if you take a sleeping bus or night train, so checking for **early check-in availability** is quite important when choosing accommodation.

Before booking the accommodation, I found reviews saying some people got free early check-in around 12 PM lunchtime, while others were asked for a half-day rate for early morning check-ins.

The half-day rate might vary depending on the room, so it's a good idea to inquire with the hotel in advance.

💡TIP: Didn't get to shower after a night journey?

- There were also shower facilities inside the lobby restroom. If you want to use them, I recommend asking if they are available.

4. Things to Know Before Booking

There's one important thing you should know when staying at this accommodation.

It's really close to Sapa Square, but the slope of the hill leading up to the accommodation entrance from the main road is steep and there are quite a few stairs (though being assigned to the 4th floor might have contributed). I already knew this from reviews, but seeing it in person, it was steeper than I expected. 😂

When we arrived, a staff member came down personally to help us carry our heavy suitcases, and even at check-out, they helped bring all our luggage down, so it didn't really pose a big problem.

However, if you have large suitcases or are traveling with elderly companions, I recommend taking a vehicle when you first arrive at the accommodation...!

🚘 Lao Cai -> Sapa Accommodation Pick-up Recommended

For those arriving at Lao Cai station via the sleeper train, using a pick-up vehicle that takes you right to the accommodation entrance is convenient.

It seems almost essential, especially if you have a lot of luggage and multiple people. I compared prices across various platforms for a limousine that can seat 6 to 13 adults, and this place was the cheapest!
