Salvation Army Booth Lodge Review 2026: Budget HK Stay
Don't let Hong Kong's insane hotel prices ruin your trip. Here's why The Salvation Army Booth Lodge in Yau Ma Tei is the ultimate ~$77 budget-friendly gem.

Looking for a budget-friendly stay near Mong Kok, Hong Kong?
Let me introduce you to an incredible hidden gem for around ~$77 a night:
The Salvation Army Booth Lodge
From its unbeatable location and affordable price tag to the complimentary breakfast,
this spot completely exceeded my expectations for my first Hong Kong trip!
A ~$77 Budget-Friendly Haven in Hong Kong

If you're planning a trip to Hong Kong, you've probably experienced sticker shock over hotel prices..
Please tell me I'm not the only one!
Because real estate is at such a premium in HK, the rooms are notoriously tiny,
yet the prices are surprisingly steep.
Add in the hot and humid weather,
and you'll find plenty of reviews complaining about damp, musty rooms.
Honestly, finding a decent accommodation option
felt like searching for a needle in a haystack. ㅠ
I initially looked into spots popular with expats and tourists
like iclub Sheung Wan Hotel and Ibis Hong Kong,
but I had to give up because they were way out of budget..
I was looking at October dates, and rates were hovering around ~$230 to ~$308 per night! ㅠ

After hours of relentless searching, I finally stumbled upon this gem:
The Salvation Army Booth Lodge
I managed to book a room for an incredibly cheap ~$77 a night!
The AC blasts icy cold air (zero humidity!),
they provide a simple breakfast, the staff is lovely,
and the room was far more spacious than I anticipated.

How to Get There from the Airport & Location

Getting from Hong Kong International Airport to the Hotel
I arrived on a red-eye HK Express flight
and was a bit worried about the long trek
to the Kowloon Peninsula..
But it turns out, you can get there directly on a single bus without any transfers!

Transport: Airport Bus A21
Fare: One-way HKD 34.6 (~$5)
Drop-off Stop: Man Ming Lane; Nathan Road
Travel Time: 3-minute walk from the bus stop to the hotel

📍 Man Ming Lane; Nathan Road
King's Park, Hong Kong
📍 The Salvation Army Booth Lodge
11 Wing Sing Ln, Yau Ma Tei, Hong Kong
The route from the airport to the accommodation is so straightforward and close
that it's practically impossible to get lost.

There are also supermarkets and convenience stores right around the corner!
You'll find two within a 1-minute walking distance.

The location is essentially in the Mong Kok area.
Situated on the Kowloon Peninsula, it's surrounded by
tourist attractions and amazing local eats, making travel a breeze.
▪️ Attractions : Ladies Market, Temple Street Night Market,
Kowloon Park, Chungking Mansions, Avenue of Stars
▪️ Food : Yat Tung Heen, Hing Kee Restaurant, Australia Dairy Company

When heading over to Hong Kong Island,
we either caught the MTR from Yau Ma Tei Station
or took the iconic Star Ferry!
* The MTR station is a quick 3-minute walk from the hotel.
Standard Twin Room Experience

I booked the Standard Twin Room.
My husband and I each got a comfortable single bed to crash in.
While we were traveling light with just backpacks,
I can confidently say there is plenty of floor space to open up suitcases
without doing a balancing act.

There's a dedicated hanging area where you can stash your luggage or packs.
They even provided indoor slippers, which was a nice touch!

Believe it or not, the windows actually open..!
Being able to let some fresh air in was a huge plus :)
Hong Kong is infamous for its cramped, "chicken-coop" style rooms
that often feel damp and sticky,
but here... the AC was incredibly powerful.
It was actually so cold I had to wear a cardigan indoors! Haha.

The bathroom and shower were remarkably clean!
They don't provide extensive toiletries, though.
I highly recommend bringing your own travel-sized favorites.
They do provide plenty of fresh towels.
The sink area is surprisingly wide, making it super convenient
to lay out cosmetics and wash bags.

My absolute favorite feature in the bathroom?
The standard handheld showerhead..!
So many hotels only have those fixed rainfall showerheads,
but this one is a classic wand style.
It makes showering so much easier when you don't want to wash your hair.
The hot water pressure is fantastic. After a long, sweaty day exploring the city,
taking a hot shower before crashing was pure bliss.

Inside the room, you'll find an electric kettle and cups.
Pro tip: there's a water dispenser by the reception desk.
Everything in Hong Kong adds up, so bring a reusable bottle
and save some cash on buying bottled water! Haha.

There's also a small but mighty mini-fridge.
Perfect for storing beers and sodas picked up from the corner store!
Chilling a local beer in the fridge all day
and cracking it open right after a shower? Absolute perfection..🧡

We had a blast grabbing local snacks and Hong Kong craft beers
from the nearby supermarket for our late-night cravings. Haha.

Check-in is at 3:00 PM, and Check-out is at 11:00 AM.
We arrived early in the morning, way before check-in time,
so we left our bags at the front desk.
As you can see in the photo, they secure the luggage with netting,
which gave me peace of mind. Exploring the city hands-free
right from the start made a huge difference.

Breakfast Review

For a budget hotel in Hong Kong,
The Salvation Army Booth Lodge
serves up a surprisingly decent complimentary breakfast.

The basic spread includes:
Cereal, toast, jam, butter, coffee,
hard-boiled eggs, and bite-sized dim sum.

Dipping those little dim sum bites in soy sauce
was weirdly addictive and super tasty! Haha.
They also use a De'Longhi coffee machine,
so I was able to enjoy a genuinely good, hot Americano every morning.

I highly recommend where I stayed, located right between Mong Kok and Jordan:

The AC works perfectly, the rooms are clean,

the area feels safe and well-connected, not isolated at all.
