When planning my trip to Rome, the absolute hardest part was choosing where to stay.
Accommodations in Rome can be pretty pricey, but when you actually look at the room conditions, so many places leave you wondering, "Wait, is this place seriously worth that price...?"
On top of that, with Rome, you really have to consider things like pickpockets, safety, and how the streets feel at night. That makes choosing the right location absolutely crucial.
So in this post, I'm sharing my honest review of The RomeHello—a fantastic, budget-friendly spot in Rome where I actually stayed for 2 nights.
To sum it up right away: the location is great, the facilities are super clean, and it's definitely a place you should compare before booking your Rome stay!

1. When It Comes to Rome, Location Always Trumps Price

When searching for accommodations in Rome, it's easy to think, "Oh, anything near Termini Station will be convenient."
But once you're actually there, you'll realize that the vibe can vary drastically depending on which side of Termini Station you're on.
While the main streets are relatively well-lit and busy even at night, turn down just one side alley and it can suddenly get very dark and quiet.
Out of all the cities I've visited, Rome is definitely one of those places where you need to keep a very close eye on your belongings—even local tour guides repeatedly warned us to stay alert.
That's why I highly recommend looking beyond just the price tag when booking your Rome stay. Check if the hostel/hotel is on a main street and see if there are restaurants nearby that stay open late.

The hostel where I spent 2 nights, The RomeHello, is about an 11-minute walk from Termini Station according to Google Maps.
When you're wheeling a massive suitcase behind you, it does feel a tiny bit longer, but once you've dropped off your bags, it's a very easy, comfortable walk.

The entrance was surprisingly large and clearly marked, so finding it for the first time was a breeze.
I arrived well before check-in time, so I just dropped off my luggage first.
The staff spoke perfect English and were incredibly friendly and welcoming.
Once you drop off your bags, they give you a claim tag which you simply show them when you're ready to collect your luggage.
When you're arriving in Rome or moving between cities, a secure luggage storage service like this is an absolute lifesaver, isn't it?
3. My Stay in The RomeHello's Double Room
To be completely honest, at first, I was a bit hesitant thinking, "Am I really booking a hostel instead of a hotel?"
I hadn't stayed in a hostel since my student days!
But as soon as I walked in, I realized The RomeHello has a completely different vibe from your typical, basic hostel.
I stayed in a Double Room located on the 4th floor.
Thankfully, they have an elevator, so getting my heavy suitcases up to the room was super easy.
The room itself was much more spacious than I expected.
There was plenty of space to fully lay out my suitcases without feeling cramped at all, and it even had two large windows letting in plenty of light.
But the best part? It came with an ensuite bathroom.
Even if I'm staying in a hostel, I just can't compromise on having a private bathroom! Haha.
On both sides of the bed, there were personal reading lights and power outlets, and there was even a secure safe inside the wardrobe.
It also featured a TV and a mini-fridge.
The bathroom was quite roomy, equipped with a shower booth, toilet, and a European bidet.
They had a soap dispenser, but since I always use my own travel shampoo and body wash, I can't really speak to the quality of their toiletries.
Honestly, accommodations in Rome can be so frustrating... even the most run-down places keep hiking up their prices because of the constant flood of tourists.
Prices shoot up even faster during peak seasons, weekends, and holidays, so it's a smart move to compare multiple platforms and lock in your booking as early as possible!

Since it's a hostel, they also offer dormitory options, of course! You can book a dorm bed starting in the low $70s per person.
To be honest, with those prices, you could easily book a 4-star hotel in other cities... Rome's accommodation rates are truly on another level...
4. Common Areas & Facilities
An outdoor garden-like common space. It's so colorful and photogenic!
The RomeHello occupies its own 5-story building, with most of the common areas situated on the lower levels, separate from the guest rooms.
Right by the entrance, there's a vibrant, colorful lounge area complete with fun activities like a foosball table.
The overall vibe was bright, energetic, and wonderfully youthful.
Next to the entrance, there's a cozy bar serving up light snacks and drinks.
We received free welcome drink coupons at check-in and enjoyed some refreshing draft beers—and let's be honest, free beer always tastes better! Haha.
Breakfast is also served right in this area.
The shared kitchen was another major highlight.
It was stocked with basic seasonings, rice, and cooking oil, and featured both an oven and a spacious refrigerator.
Most importantly, it was incredibly clean!!
I loved that there wasn't any of that typical, unpleasant shared-kitchen smell.
They also had this unique water dispenser where you can refill your own tumbler or water bottle.
If you don't have a tumbler, it looked like you could purchase one at the reception desk.
Since you can still access the common spaces and restrooms even after checking out, it made planning our itinerary on the final day so much easier.
The lounge on the kitchen floor—perfect for both dining and getting some work done.
5. Who We Recommend It For

THE ROMEHELLO, a fantastic budget-friendly option in Rome, is perfect for travelers who:

✔️ Are looking for a stay within walking distance of Termini Station
✔️ Prioritize cleanliness above all else
✔️ Want a hostel that offers rooms with private bathrooms
✔️ Are traveling as a couple, group of friends, or family
✔️ Need luggage storage before check-in or after check-out
If it's your very first trip to Rome, it is much more reassuring to choose a well-reviewed spot with easy main road access rather than saving a few dollars on a sketchy, poorly located place.
On the other hand, you might want to reconsider if you:
✔️ Expect full-fledged, traditional hotel services
✔️ Prefer a quiet and elegant atmosphere
✔️ Want a place right at the doorstep of Termini Station
✔️ Feel uncomfortable with the very concept of a "hostel"
Although it's labeled as a hostel, staying in our double room felt just like being in a standard hotel.
Even my husband said, "I'd happily stay in a hostel like this anytime." It definitely deserves all the rave reviews!

If your travel dates are set, I'd highly recommend checking availability and rates right away.
It is a very popular spot, so the best room types tend to sell out fast during peak seasons.
According to Google Maps, it is about an 11-minute walk from Termini Station to the hostel. It might feel a bit longer if you are dragging a suitcase, but it is definitely a manageable walking distance.
The room has two windows, lights and power outlets on both sides of the bed, a TV, a refrigerator, and a safe inside the wardrobe. The private bathroom is equipped with a shower booth, a toilet, and a European-style bidet for your convenience.
Based on random dates, a double room for two people can be booked for around ~$109 to ~$147, depending on the booking platform. If you choose a dormitory room, it is available for just over ~$64 per person.
If you arrive earlier than the check-in time, you can get a number tag and use the luggage storage service. Even after check-out, you can continue to use the common areas and restrooms, which is very useful for managing your itinerary.
