Are you dreaming of an Italian getaway during the upcoming fall holidays in September or October 2026?
For many, Rome is the gateway to Italy, and as your trip approaches, you're probably starting to look into local tours to make the most of your visit.
Today, I'm excited to share my top recommendations for local tours in Italy that are absolutely worth experiencing for anyone planning a trip!
Planning Your Rome Trip: Which Tours to Choose?

It’s been quite some time since my last visit to Italy, and I’m thrilled to be returning! I've noticed how much easier it is to travel now, with so many excellent local guided tour options available.
Below, I’ll share the types of tours I’ve booked and why I chose them. I hope this helps you plan your own incredible journey!
Vatican Tour

📍 The first tour I booked without hesitation was a Vatican guided tour.
A Vatican tour is essentially a deep dive into museums and art galleries, so having a knowledgeable docent or guide makes an enormous difference in understanding what you're seeing.

Vatican City, the smallest independent state, ruled by the Pope, holds immense religious significance and historical depth. I remember trying to navigate it with just a guidebook during my first visit as a kid, searching for every detail. This time, I knew a guided tour was essential to truly appreciate it.

Rome City Tour

📍 Next up is a Rome City Tour.
Rome is a city where every corner feels like a historical site, so much so that the entire urban center is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Exploring it with a guide who can share the stories embedded in each landmark makes a profound difference compared to seeing it without context.

While the history and background are crucial, my busy work schedule makes it tough to meticulously plan a city itinerary. Since city tours aren't overly expensive, I decided to book a guided tour for peace of mind and simply follow along, letting the experts lead the way.

📍 I opted for a night tour instead of a daytime city tour. Even though Rome is a major tourist destination, exploring at night can feel a bit daunting in Europe. A guided night tour offers a safer and more comfortable way to experience the city's illuminated landmarks with a group, which was a big selling point for me.
Colosseum & Roman Forum Tour

When you think of Italy, the Colosseum is often the first landmark that comes to mind. Since I really wanted to step inside the Colosseum again, I booked a 📍Colosseum tour.

Colosseum tours often include the Roman Forum, and for both of these sites, having a guide dramatically enhances the experience.

Most people know the Colosseum was an arena, so even without a guide, you can somewhat grasp its purpose. However, the Roman Forum, with its ruins, is much harder to decipher on your own. It's challenging to understand its historical role and significance just by looking at what remains today.
That's why I chose the Colosseum and Roman Forum tour as the first major itinerary for my Rome trip this time.
Rome-Florence Transfer & Tuscany Tour

📍 Finally, I booked a Tuscany day tour that combines travel from Rome to Florence with a chance to explore charming nearby towns.
Traveling from Rome to Florence by public transport often means dealing with ticket bookings, navigating unfamiliar routes, and worrying about pickpockets. This tour eliminates those hassles by combining transportation with sightseeing, making it a fantastic two-in-one experience!

Tuscany is renowned for its tranquil atmosphere and iconic cypress-lined roads, perfect for picturesque photos. I can already imagine the stunning shots I'll get there, and I'm incredibly excited about this tour!
