The highlight of our Southern Italy tour was undoubtedly Positano. Because the roads leading down into the town are incredibly narrow, tour groups must transfer from large coach buses to smaller local minibuses at a designated overlook. The view while waiting for our transfer was absolutely breathtaking.
Keep in mind that you will need to pay the €15 minibus fee in cash directly to your guide or driver upon transferring, so make sure to keep some Euros handy!
Even the drive down in the minibus is incredibly scenic. We were blessed with perfectly clear, vibrant blue skies during our visit.
It immediately became clear why Positano is considered a bucket-list destination. Because the town is built vertically on a steep cliff, you will spend your time navigating charming staircases and narrow alleys. Every corner you turn reveals another postcard-perfect view, making you forget all about the leg workout!
The contrast of the deep blue sea, brilliant sunshine, and pastel-colored buildings creates a refreshing, picture-perfect aesthetic that feels straight out of a movie.
Looking back up from the lower streets, the sheer scale of the colorful houses stacked on top of one another is incredible. Every building has its own unique architectural charm.
The water here is a deep, mesmerizing azure that looks completely different from other coastal spots. We visited in February, and while it was definitely brisk, the weather was wonderfully crisp and clear.
If you visit between January and February, the sky is gorgeous, but I highly recommend bringing a packable down jacket or layers. Clambering up and down the steep stairs gets warm quickly, but once you stop to rest, the cool sea breeze will make you want to bundle right back up!
If there was one downside to a day tour, it’s that we couldn't spend a full day exploring every nook and cranny of Positano. It leaves you wishing for just a little more time, which only makes the memories more precious.
While Positano is famous for its lemon candies, you absolutely cannot miss out on the local lemon beer. We grabbed a few bottles and enjoyed them overlooking the sea. Even if you spot lemon beer in other Italian cities, nothing quite matches the crisp, refreshing taste of enjoying it right here on the Amalfi Coast.
As our time wound down, we boarded the local minibus to head back up the cliffs to our main tour coach, concluding our southern adventure before making the journey back to Rome.
Taking a day tour from Rome was the perfect way to make unforgettable memories with friends. It maximizes your time, allowing you to seamlessly visit multiple iconic coastal destinations in a single day.
If you want to experience the Amalfi Coast without the stress of driving winding cliffside roads or navigating complicated train transfers, a guided bus tour is highly recommended!

It depends on the tour package, but basically, you will need to pay 18 euros for the Pompeii entrance fee, 15 euros for the Positano transfer minibus, 15 euros for lunch, and 3 euros for the wireless receiver rental. Some tours include an additional 15 euros for the Amalfi Coast ferry, bringing the total on-site payment to between 51 and 66 euros. You also need to bring your own 3.5mm earphones to use with the receiver.
No, you must transfer from the large bus to a small minibus to enter Positano. You should prepare and pay the 15-euro minibus fare in cash in advance.
The weather in Positano in January and February is sunny, but temperatures can drop and it gets cold, so we recommend bringing a padded jacket. You might feel hot walking up and down the steep stairs, but you can get cold quickly once your sweat dries, so outerwear that is easy to put on and take off is highly recommended.
Along with lemon candy, lemon beer is very famous in Positano. In particular, it is hard to find the same taste of lemon beer in other Italian cities, so we highly recommend trying it at a place with a great view when you visit.
