When you're exploring Rome, the Colosseum is undeniably

an unmissable landmark.

Just recently, my mom was watching the drama <Spartacus>,

and it instantly brought back memories of my visit to the Colosseum!

(It was quite... brutal, actually.)

So today, I'll be sharing everything about the Colosseum and Roman Forum,

from my personal experience to how to book tickets,

and a tour comparison, all in one go!

1. Colosseum Location and How to Get There

Colosseum

From the 🚇 Colosseo subway station,

just exit and walk, and you'll arrive.

The Colosseum is visible the moment you exit the station,

so you definitely won't get lost.

However, even in September, daytime temperatures often

exceed 30 degrees Celsius.

Sunglasses and sunscreen are a must!

Hats and parasols are also highly recommended.

It's an outdoor archaeological site with little shade,

so the perceived heat can be quite intense.

2. Colosseum & Roman Forum Ticket Booking

Colosseum tickets are

categorized into different types depending on your purpose.

• Colosseum + Roman Forum + Palatine Hill 24-hour pass

• Arena Floor (interior)​ access 24-hour pass

• Special area tickets for the Underground (Hypogeum), Upper Tier, etc.

(There are so many options...)

Tickets can be booked on the official website and Klook,

and Klook offers tickets that include an English and Chinese audio guide,

which makes it highly recommended for independent travelers.

We happened to visit on a free admission day,

and we truly struggled with the crowds and the scorching sun... haha.

If you're confident in your stamina, then free admission days are highly recommended!

3. Colosseum Review

Can you feel the scorching sun even in the photos? ☀️☀️

Standing in front of the Colosseum, people looked incredibly small.

It felt unreal that gladiators actually fought

in this colossal space.

The maze-like structures on the Colosseum floor are

the Hypogeum – the underground space where gladiators and wild animals

waited.

Now, some decks have been restored

to match the original floor height of ancient Roman times!

What impressed me most was the height of the stairs.

Each step was almost like rock climbing, seriously...

Maybe that's why...?

The highest levels were said to be for people of lower social status

to sit.

The first floor (podium) was reserved for the upper class, including emperors, senators, and nobles,

and the higher you went,

the lower the social status of the occupants.

4. Exploring the Roman Forum

Foro Romano

After visiting the Colosseum, a short walk takes you

straight to the Roman Forum (Foro Romano).

This was the political, economic, and religious center of ancient Rome,

and like Pompeii, the entire site is an archaeological ruin.

As you walk, you'll encounter the Arch of Titus,

an architectural marvel built in 81 AD to commemorate

the Roman victory in the Jewish War.

Further inside, you'll find

the Temple of Antoninus and Faustina.

As I felt in Pompeii and the Pantheon,

the temple columns you encounter in person are

so much more majestic than in photos! 👍

The site is incredibly vast!

My energy was rapidly draining, so

I only managed a quick look around the central area...
