Your Essential Madrid Stop:
El Retiro Park for Walks, Picnics, and Boating

For our final stop in Madrid, we decided to immerse ourselves in the tranquility of El Retiro Park.

El Retiro Park Parque de El Retiro Hours: Daily 6:00 AM - 12:00 AM Location: Retiro, 28009 Madrid, Spain |
📍 El Retiro Park
Retiro, 28009 Madrid, Spain

We arrived a little later than planned, so we only had time for a quick stroll. The park is conveniently located on the eastern edge of Puerta del Sol, roughly a 15 to 20-minute walk.

Just like Barcelona has its Arc de Triomf, Madrid boasts the magnificent Puerta de Alcalá, a grand gate serving as one of the park's main entrances. Adorned with intricate sculptures of what appear to be angels or soldiers, it's quite a sight!

The park itself has several entrance gates, and according to Google Maps, they open daily from 6:00 AM to 12:00 AM. So, whether you're an early bird or a night owl, you'll find a time to explore!

This truly enormous park was bustling with people! We saw many enjoying a refreshing run along the pathways, while others leisurely strolled, soaking in the beautiful surroundings.

Many visitors were also enjoying relaxed picnics. We had originally planned to have one here ourselves! It's truly enviable to have such expansive green spaces in the city, perfect for a peaceful outdoor meal.

As you wander further in, you'll spot a charming little fountain. The water streams are quite delicate, and the sight of them spouting from the mouths of turtles is absolutely adorable!

Continue deeper into the park, and you'll arrive at the magnificent Retiro Lake. Its sheer size is truly impressive!

You'll notice people enjoying various water activities on the lake, though I must admit, the water wasn't exactly crystal clear. Still, standing here, I truly wished we had carved out more time for a proper park picnic.
There's also a boat rental station, and I highly recommend taking a leisurely row across the lake if you have the chance. It's a wonderful way to experience the park from a different perspective!

📍 Kiosko Galapagos
Salón del Estanque, 3, Retiro, 28009 Madrid, Spain
Right by the lake, there's a small casual eatery called Kiosko Galapagos. However, its Google rating is a remarkably low 1.9 stars! It's almost impressive to get a rating that low. Most reviews mention high prices and disappointing food.

While we considered grabbing a bite, that Google rating quickly changed our minds!

Despite the reviews, if you're looking for a spot with a fantastic lake view, this could be an option. Think of it as paying for the scenery; it might just be a decent alternative if you can't manage a full picnic.

📍 Cibeles Fountain (Plaza de Cibeles)
Plaza Cibeles, S/N, Centro, 28014 Madrid, Spain
After finishing our visit to the park, as we headed back towards Puerta del Sol, we encountered another magnificent fountain: the Cibeles Fountain. It seems Madrid, unlike Barcelona, is a city with an abundance of water features, adding to its grand charm.
Conclusion
