The Prado Museum: A Must-Visit in Madrid
How to skip the long lines and get inside fast,
plus ticket booking tips, highlight masterpieces, and scenic walking trails nearby—
I've laid it all out for you, so just follow my lead!

If there’s one place you absolutely cannot miss in Madrid,
it’s the iconic Prado Museum (Museo del Prado).
As one of Spain's top three art museums,
it’s packed with world-famous masterpieces by legendary artists
like Goya, Rubens, and Velázquez.
It was easily the most memorable part of my entire Madrid trip!
Luckily, the Prado Museum was within walking distance of our hotel.

The walk there was incredibly peaceful and scenic.
The area right in front of the museum has such a calm, laid-back vibe.
On a sunny day, it's the perfect spot to take a slow, relaxing stroll before heading inside.
This is exactly what makes wandering through Europe so magical.

The classic arched iron gates add to that quintessential European charm.
Every single corner feels like a photo spot!
I saw quite a few people posing for pictures here.
Naturally, we had to snap a quick photo ourselves!

The Royal Botanical Garden (Real Jardín Botánico) is located right next door,
which makes it a highly recommended add-on to your Prado itinerary!
If you have some time before your entry slot, definitely check it out!

Prado Museum Information Board.
It displays the opening hours, prices, and map locations very clearly.
The Prado Museum
opens at 10:00 AM
and runs until 8:00 PM from Monday to Saturday, and until 7:00 PM on Sundays.
But here's a tip: free admission is available for 1 hour after 6:00 PM!
However, the lines during free hours can get incredibly long,
so I highly recommend booking a Fast Track ticket in advance!

The Entrance to the Prado Museum.
Huge banners of famous masterpieces hang on the outer walls,
making it the perfect backdrop for an epic photo!
The line was quite long when we arrived, but since we booked in advance,
we were able to scan our QR codes and walk straight in!

The Prado Museum hosts major special exhibitions every season.
During my visit,
there was a fascinating Picasso and El Greco collaboration exhibition,
while the permanent collection featured
an incredible array of works by Goya, Velázquez, and Rubens.

📌 Quick Tips to Know Before You Go
• Photography is strictly prohibited inside (allowed only at the entrance and in the lobby)

I highly recommend the guided tour option!
The stories behind the masterpieces really bring them to life, allowing for a much deeper appreciation.
Since the Prado Museum is absolutely massive, if you get turned around,
you might easily miss the key works you came to see,
or tire yourself out before seeing it all. That's why a guided tour is a total game-changer!

📌 Key Highlights & Recommended Route
• Velázquez's 'Las Meninas'
• Goya's 'The Nude Maja' & 'The Third of May 1808'
• Masterpieces by Rubens, El Greco, and Bosch
I'd recommend setting aside a relaxed 2 to 3 hours to take it all in.
Seeing Goya's artistic journey up close is particularly moving—it hits different in person!

The gift shop in the basement lobby was spacious, beautifully organized, and definitely worth a browse.
We picked up a trivet—something we can use daily to remind us of our trip—
and a notebook to complete our little haul!

After the tour,
it's perfect for taking a leisurely stroll to the nearby park or church.
It's the perfect way to let the artistic inspiration slowly sink in!

The Prado Museum is far more than just a tourist attraction;
it's a breathtaking space that holds the very essence of Spanish art and history.
