I was so focused on the climb that I didn't get many photos on the way up, but as the name 'viewpoint' suggests, it's situated a bit higher up. The uphill walk was a little tiring.

It might have been tougher because the sun was still high, or perhaps my energy was just depleted from a full day of exploring. Either way, I highly recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes!

While you can't enter the monastery building itself, there's a large, open space, almost like a plaza. Seating is somewhat limited (a few stone benches are available).

Since I arrived early, I managed to grab a bench, people-watch, and enjoy the busking performance you see in the photo. This quiet time was truly wonderful; the atmosphere wouldn't have been the same without the music.

Initially, people were scattered, sitting on the ground or huddled on benches, but as soon as the sunset began, everyone gravitated towards the railing.

From this viewpoint, you can also see Morro Garden. Notice how packed it is?

Personally, I wasn't keen on sitting on the grass, and I'd heard it could be a bit noisy with people smoking, which wasn't my vibe. If you prefer a lively, bustling atmosphere, Morro Garden might be for you. I even saw a DJ playing music and a couple getting engaged from afar – it's definitely a celebratory spot!

The viewpoint, however, offered gentle busking and plenty of space!

While capturing the full grandeur of the sunset on a phone can be challenging, I think I managed to convey that romantic feeling, don't you?

When the sun is directly descending, the intense red light makes it hardest to photograph. From the viewpoint, you get to truly savor the entire panoramic scene.

Compared to Morro Garden, the view is much more open, offering a comprehensive panorama of the Douro River and its banks.

Once the sun almost disappears, the photos start to look even more beautiful. From Morro Garden, you'd have a direct frontal view of the riverfront, which is also lovely, but I preferred to see that view from below during the day before heading up. That's an option for you too!

3. Don't Miss a Porto Sunset!

Once the sun had fully set, the crowd dispersed, making the area a little bustling. You can see how many people gathered on the Dom Luís I Bridge as well.

After enjoying a wonderfully relaxed and happy time, we slowly made our way down from the viewpoint and walked back to the city center. It was much cooler in the evening, making the walk pleasant.

The photo above was taken from the bridge after descending from the viewpoint. As the lights started to twinkle on, it created another kind of beautiful scenery, wouldn't you agree?

Since I didn't experience the sunset from Morro Garden, I can't definitively say that the viewpoint is *always* better. However, given my personal preferences, I believe choosing the viewpoint was the right decision for me.

I loved that it wasn't crowded, and I could take in the expansive, unobstructed views of Porto's riverside. There was no jostling for a spot, and I had a truly delightful time.
