When you visit Porto, you're bound to encounter the Douro River,
and the perfect spot to enjoy gazing at it is Ribeira Square.
This is an absolute must-visit spot!

You don't even need to specifically pinpoint Ribeira Square on your map;
if you're exploring along the Douro River, you'll find yourself right there!
Wandering through the streets of Porto,
without even checking Google Maps and just letting my feet lead me,
I spotted the riverbank in the distance and simply headed straight for it.
With a panorama overflowing with European charm,
I simply let my footsteps guide me.
As I got closer to the Douro River, a fascinating cube sculpture,
along with a lively row of restaurants and bars lining the riverbank,
immediately caught my eye.
It felt as if most people in Porto were right here;
the commercial area was incredibly vibrant and bustling.
The Dom Luís I Bridge was visible, and a continuous line of shops stretched
along the Douro River.
It's the perfect place to relax and find healing
while gazing at the Douro River.
As you stroll, be aware that many shop employees
will try to attract your attention – it's part of the lively atmosphere!
Simply gazing at the Douro River and letting my mind wander –
that in itself was pure bliss and healing.
All my worries faded away, and just letting my mind drift
was truly wonderful.
The impromptu street performances you stumble upon – listening, watching, and simply soaking in the vibe –
are another unmissable delight.
With the Douro River as a stunning backdrop, the busking
itself is pure therapy for the soul.
Their free spirit and genuine joy in making music are
an irresistible charm you simply can't walk past.
You'll find such a variety of people singing and busking all over the place,
making it absolutely perfect to enjoy with a light heart.
And the songs themselves? Just wonderfully clear and exhilarating!
Some even have makeshift drums, adding a fantastic beat to the rhythm!
Visit on a different day or at another time, and you're likely to discover
a whole new set of performers!
It truly lives up to its reputation as a city of romance.
They even sing famous songs that global travelers will recognize, too!
With sweet voices harmonizing with the flowing water,
it was the perfect excuse to pause and simply be.
Along the long pathway stretching from the end of the Dom Luís I Bridge
all the way to Ribeira Square, you'll discover scattered stalls
offering a delightful array of items to browse.
The variety is truly impressive, from Porto souvenirs to kitchenware and everyday items,
making it well worth a browse.
True to its reputation as a city of wine, you'll find an abundance of cork-based products –
from bags and wallets to coasters, cutting boards, cups,
Porto magnets, eco-bags, and more.
They make for fantastic gifts and souvenirs!
And naturally, being right by the river, you'll spot plenty of seagulls gracefully soaring by.
Perhaps because there are so many people and birds around,
they don't seem too bothered even if you approach them closely.
It's truly long and wide, so I tried taking a panoramic shot –
but it turned out a bit comically strange, haha!
Ribeira Square also seems like an absolutely magical place to visit in the late afternoon, just as the sun
begins its slow, golden descent.
Of course, it's even better to visit in the evening or at night!
As the lights of the buildings switch on one by one,
the night view reflected in the water is truly beautiful.
You can see them not just during the day, but at night too,
the 'Paparazzi' photographers.
In a square-box-like setup, just like in the picture,
your photos are printed out on a newspaper.
The shops overlooking the night view were packed with people,
bustling everywhere.
To soak in the night view ourselves, we entered a shop that looked busy.
It's not searchable on Google Maps, but
the shop's name is BURAQUINHO.
Browsing the menu, we saw a variety of foods like burgers, fries, and meat dishes.
Struggling with choice, we asked a staff member to recommend a popular item and ordered that.
The sangria I'd fallen for since coming to Porto,
and the indispensable Super Bock draft beer.
With the Douro River night view as our perfect accompaniment,
the drinks just go down so smoothly.
Soon after, out came the burgers and fries.
The vibe was absolutely perfect!
A burger with incredibly rich, gooey cheese that was just on another level,
boasting a truly deep flavor.
I can't recall its name, but there was a meat dish that featured a fire show,
making it quite memorable.
That drink enjoyed while reveling in Porto's night
is one of our unforgettable honeymoon memories.
The lights of Porto's buildings, reflected in the Douro River,
were perfect for taking photos,
and the conversations shared by people gathered in small groups
created a truly wonderful atmosphere.
Ribeira Square is absolutely perfect as a night view spot in Porto.
Sometimes, when you see locals and travelers dancing
to the rhythm of busking music and enjoying themselves,
you can truly feel the romance and freedom of Porto.
I don't know the exact song, but the sight of happy people was infectious.
Porto's night, shining along the riverside,
concluded with a fantastic European newspaper photo,
taken by a 'Paparazzi' photographer!
It was great getting a newspaper photo from the 'Paparazzi' photographers at Livraria Lello,
and it was truly wonderful to get another newspaper photo at night too.
So, that concludes my review of Ribeira Square,
a place where Porto's day and night have completely different vibes!
During the day, you can gaze at the Douro River, enjoying the calming water, or watch busking performances. It's also a good idea to browse various souvenirs and daily necessities at the stalls along the path leading from the end of Dom Luís I Bridge to Ribeira Square.
At night, you can admire the beautiful night view as the lights from the buildings reflect on the Douro River. With the night view as a backdrop, you can also have your photo taken by a paparazzi photographer and receive a printed copy in the form of a European newspaper.
