Unlike buildings back home in Korea, Portuguese architecture often features structures built
right next to each other, without gaps in between.
This meant that even with Google Maps open, finding the exact entrance to the accommodation was
surprisingly trickier than expected.
If you're reading this and planning your trip, know that
Downtown Porto Mouzinho Studio Apartments is located directly **opposite this distinctive sculpture** you see in the photo, so hopefully, this tip will help you find it without any confusion!
Still feeling a bit lost? Here's another pro tip: keep an eye out for an ATM.
The building with an entrance right next to this ATM is actually your booked accommodation, so you'll spot it in no time!
Early Check-in
I didn't capture all the accommodation photos in one go; rather, I snapped them whenever the thought crossed my mind, which is why some photos might appear a bit dark. Interestingly, my **initial check-in time was actually 2 PM**.
While the official check-in time is 3:30 PM, I reached out to ask if I could perhaps just drop off my luggage earlier.
They kindly replied that they would let me know as soon as the cleaning was complete.
The fantastic outcome? I received a positive response, allowing me to check in a whole hour and a half early! What a relief!
This fantastic accommodation in Porto operates on a
100% self-check-in system.
Accommodation Security Measures
1. Upon initial entry into the building

It truly felt like security was a top priority, which was reassuring! To access my reserved room, I actually had to unlock a total of three different locks.
These crucial passcodes are conveniently shared via messages on your
pre-booked platform, so all you need to do is check them and you're good to go!
And if you ever get confused or something isn't working quite right,
don't fret! Just send a message, and they'll respond swiftly,
so there's absolutely no need to worry.
A Porto Gem: Accommodation with an Elevator!
Anyone planning a European adventure, or those who have already experienced one, will surely agree with this!
That finding accommodation with an elevator is truly a rare and precious find!
Imagine dragging heavy luggage up countless flights of stairs – you'd already be exhausted before your adventure even began! Thankfully, the presence of an elevator here was an absolute lifesaver.
The elevator was smaller and cozier than I expected,
so when two suitcases and two people got in,
it was completely full.
By the way, since the way it works is a little different from elevators in Korea,
I decided to film it.
In Korea, one door opens automatically,
but in Porto, when you get off after riding,
when one door opens automatically, you then
have to manually push the next door open yourself.
Inside the Accommodation
The interior looked much more spacious
than the photos I saw when booking.
Usually, I find the opposite to be true,
so I was pleasantly surprised by how incredibly spacious it was inside.
Wearing the slippers I got from Turkish Airlines,
I walked around and explored the accommodation.
By the way, there were a total of three chairs,
and I remember that the white chair had a curved shape,
which made it a bit inconvenient for placing things on.
There was also a stylish framed print on the wall.
Perhaps because the colors were predominantly monochrome,
it felt like it enhanced the ambiance of the accommodation!
The **room view** after pulling back the curtains and looking out the window!
Since the road was right in front, I didn't really keep them open
during my stay at the accommodation.
The table in the accommodation was the kind that folds up from the wall
and locks into place for use.
As long as you didn't accidentally touch the locking mechanism underneath,
it wouldn't fold, so I didn't find it to be a major inconvenience.
The Bed & Bed Bugs
When it comes to accommodation in Europe, the most important thing is
the presence or absence of bed bugs.
While bedding can always be changed,
the corners and underside of the mattress are unavoidable,
so if there are bed bugs, you can usually find traces of them there.

When I visually inspected it,
it was clean without any traces, which put my mind at ease.
There were hangers on both sides of the bed,
so I could hang coats or long clothes.
However, I was worried about my clothes absorbing a 'closet smell,'
so I hung them outside instead of putting them inside.
Also, there were outlets on both sides of the bed,
so I could charge devices or connect an electric heating pad.
While it wasn't cold thanks to the air conditioner/heater,
I still feel like my fatigue truly melts away
when the floor is warm, so I made sure to bring a
single electric heating pad as a must-have.
Kitchen
Although it's a studio apartment and not separated by walls,
a kitchen is provided on one side.
Since you can cook and eat inside the accommodation,
you can definitely cut down on food expenses during your trip!
There was also a washing machine and dishwasher tucked underneath,
though we didn't end up using them during our stay.
But since we couldn't find a drying rack anywhere,
if you do decide to run a load of laundry,
you might need to think about where you'll hang everything to dry.
There's an electric kettle and an induction cooktop.
It totally made me wish we had bought some cup ramen to cook up!
You can always expect to find some cooking utensils in a place like this!
If you open the upper cabinets, you'll find everything you need to whip up a meal.
There are plenty of bowls, plates, and pots,
so you can easily use whatever you need.
Cutlery, ladles, tongs, and even a wine opener—
all the essential tableware and utensils were fully stocked, of course.
And since this region is so famous for its wine,
it was great to see a wine opener ready and waiting.
They also had two of each type of glass,
which was absolutely perfect for picking the right one for the occasion.
Sitting by the window in the early morning, looking out at the streets
while sipping on a glass of Port wine would have been amazing!
(Of course, I didn't actually get around to doing that.)
Basic essentials like oil and vinegar
are already provided in the kitchen,
so you don't have to worry about buying everything from scratch.
They also had coffee capsules laid out
so we could use the coffee machine.
My sister and I aren't big coffee drinkers,
so we didn't end up using them,
but we were really touched by this thoughtful gesture.
To the left of the sink, there is a fridge.
It wasn't a tiny mini-fridge, but a decently sized,
highly practical refrigerator.
The trash can is tucked away under the sink,
so no need to search around—just open the cabinet door below!
City Tax
Porto accommodations charge a city tax.
There was a note when booking stating that it had to be paid separately,
so we left the cash on the table before checking out.
So before you check out, make sure
you have cash ready on hand for the city tax!
The Bathroom

only downside was the bathroom smell.
Since this was our very first stop of the trip,
I thought bathrooms in Portugal and Spain
just naturally smelled like this.
A slight sewage smell kept wafting up from the toilet,
so we made sure to keep the lid tightly closed and left the exhaust fan running constantly.
Just one **towel** was hanging in the bathroom, and that was it.
But hey, if you're staying longer, they seem happy to provide more!
So, if you need extra, just ask away.
**Shampoo, body wash, and soap**
These three were the only toiletries provided by the accommodation.
Personally, I travel with my own trusted essentials,
so I just snapped a quick pic of these for you!
A Quick Note on Water Quality
Seriously, I consider a shower filter an absolute must!
This is the filter I used during my **3-night, 4-day stay**, and
just look how dirty it got before I tossed it on the last day.
Even if you hear that hard water filters aren't 100% effective,
it's still better to have one than not, right? So, definitely pack one!
**A good rule of thumb: one filter per place you stay!**
My Top Pick: A Porto Gem with an Elevator, Right by São Bento Station!
After doing a quick search for this place now,
it looks like **the most budget-friendly way to snag a reservation** is currently
**Booking.com**!
From São Bento Station and the iconic Dom Luís I Bridge,
to the McDonald's, the grand Bolsa Palace, and other tourist attractions, and even
those legendary egg tart spots –
everything was effortlessly reachable on foot!
Seriously, I kept gushing about how perfect the accommodation's location was
every single time I stepped out.
Aside from a slight bathroom odor, it's a huge thumbs-up from me!
Yes, if you have trouble finding it on Google Maps, look for the entrance directly opposite the 'Downtown Porto Mouzinho Studio Apartments' sculpture or right next to an ATM. The accommodation is conveniently located near famous tourist attractions, popular restaurants, and the train station.
The standard check-in time is 15:30, and check-out is 11:00. While it depends on the cleaning schedule, the author of the article experienced an early check-in at 2:00 PM, an hour and a half earlier than the standard time.
In Porto elevators, after you board and one door opens automatically, you must manually push the second door open. Please note that both doors do not open automatically as they do in Korea.
The only drawback mentioned was a sewer smell coming from inside the toilet bowl. It is recommended to keep the toilet lid closed and the ventilation fan continuously running.
The kitchen is equipped with various cooking utensils such as a coffee pot, induction cooktop, bowls, plates, pots, cutlery, ladles, tongs, and a wine opener. Basic seasonings like oil and vinegar, as well as capsule coffee, are also provided. The city tax must be paid in cash before check-out.
