Porto December Weather & City Tour 2026: Christmas Charm
Wondering what to expect from Porto in December 2026? Get the inside scoop on the mild winter weather, essential packing tips, and a delightful stroll through the city's festive streets, including the iconic São Bento Station.
Our first stop on this honeymoon adventure: Porto!
Curious about what Porto's like in December?
Let's chat a bit about the weather and what to wear.
So, what was early December 2024 weather like in Porto, you ask?
It was wonderfully crisp and perfect for exploring!
While the wind could bring a slight chill,
you definitely don't need those bulky winter coats.
It felt refreshingly comfortable for winter!
Generally, a comfy sweatshirt or a knit top was my go-to,
and if a chill snuck in while exploring, a lightweight puffer jacket did the trick.
If you tend to get a bit chilly,
I'd highly recommend layering with thermal wear under a long-sleeved top.
A thin long-sleeved top was perfect for sunny afternoons,
and layering up with a lightweight puffer jacket at night kept me perfectly snug.
During our five incredible days in Porto,
it rained on about two of them,
but never all day – just for a few hours here and there.
It was mostly a gentle drizzle, making it
easy to keep exploring without a hitch!
(Definitely pack a foldable, lightweight umbrella!)
Since the rain was brief and light,
never a heavy downpour,
it was still absolutely perfect for soaking in the beauty of Porto's Douro River.

Our very first stroll into the city center from our cozy Porto accommodation.
The distinctive roads instantly made me feel like, 'Yes, we've truly arrived in Porto!'
(Think charming cobblestones, not smooth asphalt!)
Porto's roads aren't silky smooth like asphalt,
they're crafted from beautiful stones, which means a car ride might not be
the smoothest experience.
(But oh, the European charm is absolutely overflowing!)
Even a familiar Starbucks felt like a little friendly wave.

Once we crossed the iconic Dom Luís I Bridge and ventured deeper in,
the city center unfurled before us, a charming cluster of red-roofed buildings.
Seeing it, I instantly thought, 'Yes! Our Porto adventure is truly
beginning!' The excitement was palpable!
(The morning weather was absolutely beautiful, and even the clouds looked picturesque!)

To the right, behind that distinctive pink fence, stood
Porto's renowned São Bento Station!
The roads around São Bento Station were undergoing some construction,
making walking a tad tricky, but
it still offered a true glimpse into the charm of European train stations.
The building's exterior itself boasts such unique architecture,
making São Bento Station truly fascinating!

Spotted a Haagen-Dazs! And perhaps because it was December,
trees and wreaths adorned buildings everywhere, adding to the festive cheer.
I even snapped a picture of a Porto bus stop,
it was simplicity itself!

If you simply let yourself wander around,
you'll frequently stumble upon vibrant Portuguese football souvenir shops.
Thanks to my football-loving husband, passing them by was simply not an option!

Of course, there's Cristiano Ronaldo, Portugal's most famous football star!
This souvenir shop was a treasure trove of all things Portuguese football,
and my husband's eyes absolutely lit up!
We browsed around, deciding to 'keep it in mind' for a later visit.

We couldn't help but step into yet another souvenir shop,
we just had to go in! Haha!
My husband was absolutely thrilled.
(While I happily watched from the sidelines.)
Since it was our very first day in Porto, we didn't make any purchases, but
just browsing these football souvenir shops was a blast!

This is a bustling part of the city center, right near São Bento Station,
and it's absolutely one of those streets you *have* to visit when you're exploring Porto.
There was a wonderful busker playing, and surprisingly,
he seemed to be there throughout our entire Porto trip!
I grew to feel a little internal wave of 'hello' every time we passed him.
We even popped into the Porto tourist information center nearby,
but decided we didn't really need anything and quickly headed back out to explore.
You can catch a glimpse of the busking video right here!

As we meandered through the winding streets of Porto's city center, we stumbled upon
a beautiful wedding dress shop!
Maybe it's because we were on our honeymoon,
Wedding dresses and formal wear
just inevitably caught my eye, haha!
Just by looking at the ones on display,
Porto's wedding dresses seemed to have
an elegant style that wasn't overly flashy.

I even found the buildings under construction and the ready-mix concrete trucks fascinating, so I snapped a pic!
Unlike back home, the ready-mix concrete trucks' capacity? size seemed
a little smaller, but pretty similar overall!

While exploring Alfonso Cathedral,
I noticed a small flea market set up right in front of it,
which was super interesting, so I had to take a look!
They were selling these adorable bracelets unique to Porto,
so we each picked one up as a honeymoon souvenir!
(A perfect memento from our trip!)

Wandering through the streets of Porto,
seeing so many locals and fellow travelers,
I could really feel the unique sense of ease and relaxation they all exuded.
That freedom and laid-back vibe truly made my soul feel at peace.

What really stood out were the artistic touches everywhere –
you could spot all sorts of items featuring artwork
scattered throughout the streets.
Things like hand-drawn postcards and LP records, for instance.
It was so enjoyable just browsing through all the different art pieces.
And of course, there's street performing (busking) everywhere you look!
Walk a bit, hear busking, walk a bit more,
hear more busking – it's an endless loop, haha!
(And seriously, everyone's so talented!)

Amidst the bustling city streets, packed with people,
we stumbled upon various shops. I was instantly drawn in by the sheer cuteness of a duck-themed souvenir shop!
With such a wide array of adorable duck toys,
it was a delight just to browse.
On one side, there was even a shop offering immediate embroidery services –
it looked like they could stitch a baby's name right on the spot!
It was absolutely fascinating how they could just whip something up with a sewing machine in no time!

Wandering around Porto's city center,
I felt like snacking, so I popped into a jelly shop.
The variety was truly astounding, leading to some serious decision paralysis!
But since I love sour candies,
I picked out a small assortment of different sour jellies.
The price, being determined by weight, wasn't exactly cheap, but
each type had a distinct and delicious flavor, so
I ended up buying more, haha!

Just walking aimlessly, a beautiful park suddenly appeared!
In the heart of the park stood a grand statue,
encircled by those characteristic buildings that truly define Porto's charm.
Seeing so many people relaxing here,
we decided to take a little break and sit for a while too.

Strolling around, we stumbled upon a huge market.
We stepped inside and discovered it was actually hosting a fantastic flea market!
You could find all sorts of items – perfumes, clothes, bags, and so much more.
It was perfect for a quick browse and discover some treasures.

The merchant was incredibly friendly and helpful, even with my not-so-perfect English.
It was tough to choose a scent, so I tried spraying a few,
but the one he recommended was absolutely the best!
After sampling the perfumes, I loved them so much that
I ended up buying one for women and one for men.

As you explore various corners of Porto's city center,
you'll often spot buses, effortlessly navigating even the steepest slopes.
It was truly amazing to see these buses handling such incredibly steep inclines that looked like they might topple over at any moment, so I just had to capture it in a photo!

It was just one of those ordinary alleyways,
but it had such a charming, heartwarming feel,
and there were lots of locals out walking their dogs.

An alleyway leading to Ribeira Square.
From buildings adorned with azulejos,
to the tables set out in front of the shops,
and even buskers with their free-spirited performances,
you can't help but feel a sense of peaceful healing.

Ribeira Square is an absolute must-see
when you visit Porto.
You can just snap away, and every photo will scream 'Europe!'

The azulejos you see on some buildings in Porto
come in such a variety of patterns,
making them surprisingly fun to admire.
In Porto, you can easily find local bakeries that double as restaurants,
and the breads looked so incredibly delicious,
I couldn't just walk past them without stopping several times!
The smell of fresh bread was amazing, and watching people casually
enjoying brunch outside the shops made me really want to join them,
but there was just so much other delicious food to try!~

A famous souvenir people buy when they come to Portugal:
canned sardines!
I wasn't particularly keen on trying them, and the price was a bit steep,
so I just admired them with my eyes and moved on.
You can find them commemorating every year,
so many people buy them as a birthday souvenir matching their birth year.

Even without specifically using Google Maps, all the paths
are interconnected, so navigating was surprisingly easy.
Whenever an alleyway widened into a square,
you'd see crowds of people, letting you know you'd hit the city center.
I highly recommend just walking wherever your feet take you!

The Spanish SPA brand Zara is also found throughout Porto, Lisbon,
and various parts of Spain, making it great for browsing.
Checking out Zara in Porto, I definitely noticed that
it's cheaper than in Korea and offers a wider variety of designs,
so I ended up grabbing a few pieces!
Zara has kiosks for self-checkout, and when you're paying,
you can select tax refund and call a staff member over.
The staff will input your passport and card information,
and they'll issue a tax-refundable receipt automatically.
(Make sure to keep your receipt safe!)
Besides Zara, there are many other shopping malls scattered around,
so there was plenty to explore and browse.

Porto in December was absolutely brimming with Christmas cheer,
and you could spot tree decorations all over the buildings.
Large buildings were adorned with grand wreaths
or lavishly decorated with lights,
while accessory shops welcomed Christmas with trees, toy soldiers, bears, and Santa Claus figures.

Especially at night, when darkness fell,
Christmas lights brightened up every alleyway in Porto,
making it wonderful to enjoy the streets even after dark.
Since each alley boasted uniquely shaped lights,
I'd recommend taking a stroll to explore them all.
December in Porto is the perfect month to fully embrace Christmas,
and it's not too cold either, making it absolutely ideal for sightseeing.
If you're thinking about planning a trip to Porto in December,
I highly recommend it!
