Porto Clérigos Tower Visiting Guide 2026: Sunset Views & Tickets
Discover the best way to experience Porto's stunning panoramic views from the Clérigos Tower! Learn about booking tickets and the ideal time for a memorable visit.
Clérigos Church in Porto
They say Clérigos Church has an amazing observation deck, making it one of the absolute best spots for panoramic views of Porto!
Since everyone recommends visiting during sunrise or sunset, I decided to book my slot right around sunset.

You can easily book your tickets in advance on the official Clérigos Church website.
Standard Ticket: €8
(09:00 - 19:00)
During the summer and Christmas seasons, they stay open until 23:00!
Visiting in December meant shorter days, so I booked the 5:00 PM slot, and it turned out to be a brilliant choice.
I'll let the photos of the Porto skyline at the very end show you why! 😉

After wandering around the beautiful streets of Porto, I headed over to Clérigos Church just in time for my 5:00 PM booking.
Because the church is built on a slope, the scale of the building looks completely different from the front compared to the back!
If you walk up the stairs shown in the photo on the right and turn right, you'll find the entrance.

Just a heads-up: the area directly in front of the stairs is not the entrance!
Simply follow the sign on the right pointing towards the "Tower."

Once you find the entrance, if you've pre-booked your ticket, head to the right
and scan or exchange your ticket at the spot shown in the photo on the right.

Once you have your ticket in hand, just scan the barcode at the turnstile and head inside! 🎫

The first thing you'll encounter is a fascinating look into the history of Clérigos Church!

There are plenty of other rooms and exhibits to explore along the way.
I ended up wandering through more rooms than I initially expected, taking it all in.
The interior decor and framed portraits looked like something straight out of a classic movie.

This striking structure caught my eye inside the main hall of the church.
I'm not entirely sure what it is, but the railing design strongly resembles a grand pipe organ.

The stunning interior of the Clérigos Church main sanctuary.
It immediately surrounds you with those classic, majestic European cathedral vibes.
Throughout our honeymoon, we visited quite a few churches, and most shared this breathtaking atmosphere—soaring ceilings and intricate designs hand-carved in stone.

To check out Clérigos Tower's ultimate highlight—a panoramic view of the entire city of Porto—we started making our way up and up the stairs!
Just a heads-up, the spiral staircase is quite narrow, so definitely watch your step!
Since the holiday season was just around the corner, they had decorated the spaces between the windows with festive wreaths like this.

I managed to capture a few sneak peeks of the Porto cityscape peaking through the gaps as we climbed.
On the way up the Clérigos Church bell tower, I found myself spacing out a bit, wondering, "Are we almost there yet?..."
But as you keep climbing, there are small windows here and there that let in light and a breeze, making the trek much easier!

And... behold!!!
Once you finally reach the top of the tower, you're greeted by a breath of fresh air and a stunning, unobstructed view of Porto laid out before you.
We entered Clérigos Church at 5 PM, and by the time we finished exploring the interior and reached the top of the tower, the sun was already starting its slow descent.

We decided to take a quick breather and just soak in the beauty of Porto during sunset.
I also had to capture the area around the Douro River—an absolute icon of Porto!
(Douro River)

As the sun dipped lower, the sunset sky became an absolute masterpiece.
Adoring those signature terracotta red roofs that make Porto's skyline so iconic~

It's amazing how Porto looks so different depending on which direction you look.
You can even see how beautifully the houses are nestled together.

The clouds were perfectly fluffy, too.
Comparing these photos taken just minutes apart, this spot is definitely one of the best viewpoints in Porto to watch the sunset.
Just a quick tip: The observation deck at Clérigos Tower is quite narrow. It's only wide enough for two people to carefully squeeze past each other, so keep that in mind!

As twilight set in, the city lights started twinkling on one by one in the different buildings, which was so magical to watch.
If you stay a bit longer, you can see all those lights come together to create Porto's famous glowing night view.
We headed down before the sky turned completely dark, so we missed the full night scene,
but just seeing Porto bathed in those warm sunset colors was enough to make this an unforgettable memory!

Once you make your way down from the observation deck, there's a little photo zone at the end where you can take a souvenir picture.
You strike a pose in front of a green screen, and following the staff's instructions,
they'll seamlessly Photoshop you onto a beautiful pre-shot background of Clérigos Church!
We went back and forth on whether we should do it, but since it's our honeymoon, we decided to go for it to capture the memory.
And honestly, we're pretty happy with how it turned out! 😎
You can scan a QR code to download the photo directly to your phone, and they also print out a large physical copy for you—definitely a great way to save the memory!

By the time I finally stepped out of Clérigos Church, Porto had already embraced the night.
Snapping a quick photo of the exterior as a keepsake~
Personally, I’m not religious and don't have a huge eye for art, so the interior of the church just felt like a unique, historic space to me...
But seeing that gorgeous sunset and the sweeping panoramic views of Porto made me so glad I made the climb up Clérigos Church!
It's absolutely the perfect spot to visit right around sunset to catch the golden hour fading into beautiful night views!
