Dinh Cau Temple: Where Sunsets Ignite the Sky

✅Operating Hours: 7:00 AM - 8:30 PM

We arrived at Dinh Cau Temple, hoping to catch one of Phu Quoc's legendary sunsets. The sky was a bit cloudy, and the wind was really picking up, making me wonder if we'd get to see anything spectacular. This charming temple sits right by the harbor, overlooking the sea. It's a sacred place where locals come to pray for safety at sea, so it was bustling with people, both inside and out. The temple itself is quite small, so you can easily explore it in about 10 minutes.

I wasn't sure about the stories behind the murals, but they seemed to depict deities watching over the ocean, which felt incredibly fitting for this coastal shrine.

Even with the clouds, the sun peeked through, painting the sky with soft hues. The strong sea breeze felt amazing as we watched the colors unfold. There's something truly special about feeling the ocean air while the sun dips below the horizon.

After soaking in the sunset, we took a closer look at Dinh Cau Temple itself. It's a small temple nestled next to a miniature lighthouse. I felt it was best to admire its exterior, as the interior seemed reserved for those offering prayers.

Given its purpose of praying for safe voyages, it's no surprise to find boat-shaped sculptures here. They're quite charming!

This coastal shrine is a significant spot for local fishermen, who come here to pray for protection on their journeys. You'll often see many people engaging in heartfelt prayers.

Back to enjoying the sunset. While perfect weather would have been nice, the cloudy sky added its own dramatic beauty, making it a truly memorable experience.

Just across from Dinh Cau Temple, you'll also find Dinh Ba Temple.

In front of the temple, there's a spacious plaza that was buzzing with people, especially as the sun began to set.

Even a peek of the sun from the plaza was beautiful, and I found myself gazing at it for a long time. After enjoying the sunset, it was time to head to the night market.

📍54 Đường Nguyễn Trãi, Khu 1, Phú Quốc, Kiên Giang, Vietnam
✅Operating Hours: 5:00 PM - 12:00 AM

After a leisurely stroll, we arrived at Duong Dong Phu Quoc Night Market. It was just past 6:00 PM, but surprisingly quiet.

I initially thought, "Is this all there is?" as not many shops were open and the market seemed small. But it turned out I had entered through a back entrance! Once we reached the main street, it was a completely different story – a vibrant, bustling night market! This was the liveliest place we encountered in Phu Quoc, with the most people and the most enthusiastic hawkers. Now *this* felt like Vietnam!

The street was lined with various shops, from rattan goods to jewelry stores selling pearls. There's truly something for everyone.

Even a small branch of King Kong Mart can be found here, which is handy for picking up essentials.

You'll find a wide array of souvenir shops, perfect for picking up gifts and mementos.

There are also numerous seafood stalls, with incredibly fresh offerings on display, ready to be cooked to your liking.

With so many street vendors and tempting eateries, we planned to grab dinner here. However, there was one unexpected challenge...

Be prepared for the peanut vendors! Their sales tactics are quite persistent. They'll thrust bags of peanuts into your hands, even if you say no or show them you already have some. I ended up walking around with my hands full of peanuts as a visual deterrent, signaling, "I already have plenty!" LOL!

To avoid the intense hawking, I ended up going back during the daytime to comfortably buy peanuts. A 300g bag costs about ~$4 (100,000 VND), and if you buy five, you get one 300g bag free. If you just want a small amount, King Kong Mart is a good option, but for a wider variety and larger quantities, I recommend buying from the specialty shops in the Duong Dong Night Market.

Compared to Sonasea Night Market, Duong Dong Phu Quoc Night Market definitely feels more like a traditional market with a greater variety of shops and more to explore. If you're planning a visit to a night market in Phu Quoc, I highly recommend heading to Duong Dong!
