Worried about visiting Phu Quoc in the rainy season? I traveled there in September 2026 and found it surprisingly enjoyable. Get my honest insights and tips!

When you're planning a trip to Phu Quoc, you'll probably find yourself wondering about this at some point:
'Is it okay to go during the rainy season?'
'What if it rains all day?'
Before I even booked my trip,
the thing I worried about most was definitely the weather.

To get straight to the point:
Phu Quoc is absolutely worth visiting even during the rainy season!
Of course, it's hard to expect clear skies every day like in the dry season,
but if you plan your itinerary with a little flexibility,
I actually had a more satisfying trip than I expected.
Today, based on my own travel experience,
I'm going to honestly share everything about visiting Phu Quoc during the rainy season.
1. Is Traveling to Phu Quoc During the Rainy Season Okay?

I visited Phu Quoc in September,
which is typically the month with the highest rainfall during the rainy season.
The most surprising thing was that, unlike Korea's monsoon season,
it almost never rained all day long.
It would often pour heavily all of a sudden,
and then after just 10-20 minutes,
the skies would clear up again.

It's quite different from the continuous, all-day rain
we typically associate with monsoon season.
In fact, after the rain passed, the temperature would drop slightly,
making it even more pleasant to relax at the resort or walk outdoors.

Even with rain in the forecast, I stuck to my original plans,
and it was great because the dark clouds would vanish, the sun would peek out,
and I could enjoy my trip even more!
At Vinpearl Safari, it was actually super sunny,
which made it a bit hot, but the photos turned out amazing, haha!
Of course, the weather changes daily, and a bit of luck is involved,
but my honest review is that the rainy season alone isn't a reason
to cancel your trip!
Vinpearl Safari is a must-visit on your Phu Quoc trip!

2. When is Phu Quoc's Rainy Season?

Phu Quoc's rainy season typically runs from
May to October.
During this period, humidity is high, and
sudden, heavy showers are common.
However, rather than continuous, all-day rain,
there are often days when it pours heavily for a short while and then stops,
so full travel itinerary cancellations are
less common than you might think.

Conversely, November to April is
known as the dry season, with many clear days,
making it the most popular travel season.
However, during the dry season, flight and resort prices also
increase, meaning travel costs can be higher
It can feel pretty daunting.
3. What was it like experiencing it firsthand?

The biggest advantage of traveling to Phu Quoc during the rainy season, in my experience,
was that there were relatively fewer people.
I could enjoy the resort pools at my leisure,
and popular tourist spots weren't crowded, which was great for taking photos.

Because it rained, the resort hotel pools were actually
empty, which made them even better for swimming!
The rain would come and then clear up quickly,
so it didn't really affect water activities much.
The period where rain clouds gathered and then dispersed
was short, so it was actually more fun to play.
When the sun shone brightly again, it was like 'Woohoo!' and we enjoyed it even more 🤤

Also, even with a rain forecast,
there were times when it didn't actually rain,
and conversely, it would be clear and then suddenly
a downpour would start.

So, during the rainy season, rather than just relying on weather apps,
it's important not to pack your schedule too tightly.
When it rained, I relaxed at a cafe or got a massage.
Massages were already on my itinerary, but
getting one in a cool, air-conditioned place when it rained was
so refreshing and cool... absolute bliss 🤤❤️
If you get massages for 3 consecutive days, a massage pass is beneficial.

4. Pros and Cons of Traveling During the Rainy Season

Pros
① Flights and accommodation are relatively cheaper.
② Fewer tourists, allowing for a more peaceful trip.
③ The heat momentarily subsides, sometimes making outdoor activities more comfortable.
Cons
① Island hopping tours and marine activities can be affected by the weather.
② There might be days when you don't get to see a beautiful sunset.
③ You need to be prepared for sudden rain.

📌During the rainy season, I recommend scheduling marine activities
for the middle of your trip,
rather than the last day.
That way, you can change the date if the weather isn't good!
5. Tips for Those Traveling During the Rainy Season
I've compiled the most useful tips I learned during my Phu Quoc trip in the rainy season.

Anyway, since it's the rainy season, an umbrella is
definitely a must-have item, right?
I packed a lightweight folding umbrella,
and because it was light and fit into my eco-bag,
it didn't feel like an extra burden.
Rather than worrying about rain every day just because it's the rainy season,
it's best to simply enjoy the flow of things :)
You can absolutely enjoy it!
Wrapping Up

If you're contemplating a trip to Phu Quoc during the rainy season,
my answer is a resounding 'it's absolutely worth going!'
If pristine clear skies and an emerald-hued ocean are
what you value most,
then the dry season might indeed be more satisfying for you.
However, if your goal is pure relaxation,
and you want to enjoy a resort experience at a more reasonable price,
the rainy season can absolutely be a great choice.

I too had a lot of worries,
but in reality, I enjoyed leisurely relaxation at the resort,
savoring delicious food, getting a massage every day,
and even managed to do some sightseeing, making for a truly satisfying trip.
There's no need to postpone your trip just because it's the rainy season!
If you prepare by understanding the characteristics of the weather in advance,
you can actually have a more cost-effective and relaxed
Phu Quoc trip! ❤️✈️
