Phu Quoc: A Budget-Friendly Stay for Half a Night
[Palm Bay Resort]

After a smooth flight with Jin Air, we safely arrived in Phu Quoc
and made our way from Phu Quoc Airport to the city center.

Most flights arriving at Phu Quoc Airport land late at night or in the early morning,
making it tricky to find a place to stay.
Since it's just for a quick sleep, we prioritized a budget-friendly spot
over a luxurious one.
After diligently searching for an affordable 0.5-night accommodation for our early morning arrival,
we discovered Palm Bay Resort Phu Quoc.
When choosing your accommodation in Phu Quoc, you can pick from the
North, Central, or South regions, depending on your travel style.
If you're arriving in Phu Quoc on a late-night or early-morning flight,
staying near the airport is definitely the better option.
Palm Bay Resort is located in Central Phu Quoc,
making it super convenient! It's close to the airport and perfectly situated
for heading north or south the next day.
We took a Grab directly from the airport to Palm Bay Resort,
and it only took about 10 minutes.

As you can see on Google Maps,
the location of this accommodation is an absolute gem!
You can enjoy breakfast and the swimming pool for less than ~$37 a night...
Seriously, not staying here would be a missed opportunity!

Our room was a Pool View Studio.
It was a spacious room with one king bed,
offering lovely views of the pool.
When I personally searched, Agoda had the best price.
Even after choosing a slightly better room,
it was only ~$30 (can you believe the price?!)
While prices vary by room type, the most basic room on the same date
was incredibly in the ~$20 range!!
Prices might differ depending on the room, weekday, or weekend,
but this place is a champion of value – you simply can't pass it up!

We arrived at the airport around 9 PM, called a Grab,
and headed straight to Palm Bay Resort.
I'd read reviews for Palm Bay Resort mentioning that the path there
passed through dark alleyways, which some found scary.
It wasn't scary at all; it just lacked light in the alleyways. It felt more
like a peaceful and quiet village.

As soon as we got out of the taxi, a friendly front desk staff member came out to greet us
and even helped with our luggage – we were so grateful! (The staff here is *so* kind!)
Check-in was quick and easy too.

Here are the operating hours they shared during check-in:
Breakfast - 07:00 ~ 09:30
Swimming Pool - 07:00 ~ 22:30
Laundry Service - 50,000 VND per kg
I absolutely loved that the swimming pool hours extended
from morning until late at night.
Usually, other hotels close their pools around 7 or 8 PM, but Palm Bay Resort
stays open until a fantastic 10:30 PM!

Palm Bay Resort Phu Quoc is built around the swimming pool in a square shape,
which made finding our room incredibly easy.
After checking in, a kind staff member even helped us with our luggage
and guided us to our designated room.

I wanted to go night swimming right after checking in,
but after arriving in Phu Quoc and checking in,
I was too hungry to enjoy a night swim.
In fact, I saw foreigners enjoying night swimming when I checked in,
and it was lovely to see them chatting over beers.
(So jealous of that night swim…)

True to its name as a pool-view studio, it had a wide floor-to-ceiling window
with a table and chairs.
There were curtains, so we could enjoy some privacy,
and the spacious room with a king bed immediately caught my eye.
As soon as we entered, we cranked up the air conditioning.
(It got cool very quickly, which was great!)
Two adults brought large suitcases,
but the room was so spacious we could spread them out anywhere without worry.
There were small tables on both sides of the bed,
perfect for charging phones or placing glasses.
The mattress was also comfortably soft, ensuring a deep and sweet sleep.

Inside the room, there was an old wooden wardrobe,
two bottles of Aquafina water, a refrigerator, a coffee pot,
and, true to Phu Quoc's frequent rains, an umbrella was provided.
I immediately put the bottled water in the refrigerator,
and when I took it out and drank it a few hours later,
it was incredibly refreshing, just like ice water! 👍
(Other hotels didn't have water this cold.)
I didn't bother checking the TV since I wasn't going to watch it anyway.

I was surprised by how clean the bathroom was, even cleaner than expected.
Wait... I only paid ~\$30...
This place truly offers incredible value for money.
(And breakfast is included too!!)
The vanity was spacious, and the shower booth was clean, which was a big plus.

Amenities were provided on the left side of the vanity.
(Toothbrush, toothpaste, comb, soap, etc.)
While shampoo was set up inside the shower booth,
I used my own shampoo and conditioner that I brought along.
Since it's Phu Quoc in Southeast Asia, I even swapped out the showerhead for a better experience!

Perhaps because we checked in late, we were assigned a corner room,
but it was perfectly fine for a half-night stay.
The view will likely vary depending on which room type you book.
Since there are various room types, I recommend checking Agoda and
booking the room you prefer!

After checking in and dropping off our luggage, we started searching for food.
Phu Quoc Palm Bay Resort is located down a dark alley,
so we had to walk a bit to get out to the main area.
We tried to call a Grab to the restaurant street right nearby,
but it was too close, so it was hard to get a ride.
It was only a few minutes' walk, so we just decided to go on foot, lol.
It was genuinely dark with no lights, so we had to use our phone flashlights as we walked.
It felt like a truly authentic local experience.
(Not recommended if you're alone; move with at least two people.)
It had the feel of a dark but not scary country road.
We didn't think we'd walked far, but we quickly reached a street with shops like in the photo,
making it easy to find a place to eat.
I'll share my review of the truly local restaurant we ate at here next time.
(Seriously, you HAVE to go here... their crispy rice fried rice is divine! 😋)

After a night of good food and restful sleep,
and waking up after a long, deep sleep until late morning,
it was pouring heavily outside!
Traveling to Phu Quoc in July means it's the rainy season, so rain is quite frequent.
But at Palm Bay Resort, there's no need to worry about the rain,
because each room comes equipped with an umbrella.
We used a long umbrella when heading out for breakfast.
(It was large enough for two adults!)
What was really amazing was that the heavy rain in the morning
stopped just as we finished breakfast and were ready for checkout!
What perfect timing, haha!
(Our weather fairy made an appearance! ✌️)

I also took a picture of the pool we saw the night before.
After breakfast, we relaxed a bit then used the pool.
Luckily, it was only drizzling lightly,
which made it perfect for a swim.
In the morning, most people are busy preparing for checkout,
so there was hardly anyone around – we practically had the pool all to ourselves, haha!
The pool size was just right for two adults to enjoy comfortably.
It was more than enough! (Morning swims are the best!)
Oh, one side of the pool is shallow,
and the other side is deep, so be sure to check.
(The deep end is 160 cm or more.)
To enjoy breakfast at Palm Bay Resort,
just head up the stairs from where you checked in.
(Breakfast restaurant - 2nd floor)

Upon arriving on the 2nd floor, I was really pleased to find it quite spacious and clean.
Even though we visited a bit late, it was interesting to see quite a few people there,
including Koreans, Chinese, and Americans – a real mix! Haha.
The breakfast menu isn't huge, but it has everything you need,
so it was just perfect.
From milk, coffee, juice, and cereal,
to hot dishes, fruits, and various breads – there was plenty!

At the egg station (?) at the end of the stairs,
you can tell them your preferred egg style
and get a custom-made egg dish.
I simply requested a fried egg for breakfast,
and they brought it right to my table, which was super convenient!

Fried rice, bacon,
dumplings, and stir-fried noodles – all perfect for breakfast – were available.
Personally, I found the stir-fried noodles surprisingly delicious!

There were also American-style breakfast options.
Pancakes, toast, morning rolls,
along with various hams and sauces, were all prepared.
Plus, there were beautifully arranged salads, cucumbers, watermelon, dragon fruit,
mini bananas, and mangoes.
From the 2nd floor where breakfast is served,
you can directly enjoy the pool view.
(It's so close to nature, truly healing!)

The mangoes were seriously....
Among all the mangoes I've ever eaten in Southeast Asia,
these were the most delicious – I was genuinely surprised, haha!
Personally, I prefer a slightly tangy taste over something that's fully ripe and just sweet,
and these had the perfect balance of tartness and sweetness,
with just the right level of ripeness – absolutely fantastic!
Palm Bay Resort is simply a mango paradise,
so I highly recommend you try them!
After checking out, we were waiting to use Grab to get to our next accommodation,
when a staff member kindly offered assistance with Grab.
They introduced us to a resort taxi driver who charged the same fare as shown on Grab,
allowing us to comfortably take a taxi to our next place without waiting.
(We were really touched by the staff's thoughtfulness!)
Affordable prices, delicious breakfast,
friendly staff, and a nature-friendly resort – what more could you ask for?
I paid for this myself, and I'm genuinely so happy with it! 😊
Located in central Phu Quoc, it's close to the airport, making it super convenient if you arrive on an early morning or late-night flight.
It's absolutely perfect for a 'half-night' stay when you need a quick rest before or after a flight.
This value-for-money gem, Palm Bay Resort, truly shines! And that's a wrap on my review!
