As I was preparing for my Phu Quoc trip, one thing I kept mulling over until the very end was the airport fast track service.
Traveling with a child and taking an early morning flight meant we'd be incredibly tired, so I worried about a long wait at immigration. But with an extra cost for our family of three, I wondered, "Is it really necessary?"
Turns out, the taste of capitalism is quite sweet! 😉

We arrived at Phu Quoc Airport around 9 AM, and knowing other flights were landing at similar times, I anticipated long queues, which is why I booked it.
In this post, I'll share my experience with Phu Quoc Airport's fast track service – when it's really needed – and my airport currency exchange review.
1. Phu Quoc Airport Immigration at a Glance

✅ Arrival Time: Around 9 AM ✅ Other Flights at Same Time: Yes ✅ Immigration Wait: Approx. 1 hour ✅ Fast Track: Not essential, but useful depending on the situation ✅ Recommended for: Families with children / Traveling with parents / Fixed pickup times ✅ Currency Exchange: Available at the airport |
2. Phu Quoc Airport Immigration: What if Multiple Flights Arrive Simultaneously?

Even before leaving for Phu Quoc, I debated whether to get fast track based on overlapping flight schedules.
I flew with Sun Phu Quoc, and it turned out our departure time was just 5 minutes apart from a Vietjet flight.
So, after checking the flight schedules, I went ahead and booked it 3 days in advance.

Since my seat was at the back, I took my time getting off, and sure enough, the queue was enormous.
But I had....my fast track booked, of course!
After taking the escalator down, a staff member was waiting. When I told them my name, they immediately guided me to the fast track lane.
Leaving the long queue behind, I swiftly made my way to baggage claim.
It was so fast, I almost wondered, 'Can it really be this quick??'
Now *that's* the sweet taste of capitalism, isn't it?
Of course, it doesn't make your luggage appear faster, but not having to stand and wait certainly reduced the overall fatigue.
| MyRealTrip | Peaktime | Klook |
Adult (12+ years old) | ~$11 | ~$13 | ~$17 |
Child (3-11 years old) | ~$8 | ~$7 | |
Even when considering families of three (2 adults + 1 child) or four (2 adults + 2 children), MyRealTrip turns out to be slightly cheaper than Peaktime.
Fast Track Recommended Cases
✔ Family trips with young children
✔ Trips with elderly parents
✔ Late-night arrivals
✔ When you have a fixed pickup car reservation time
✔ When travel time to your accommodation is long
✔ When multiple flights arrive at similar times
Rather than being an absolute must-apply, fast track is more of an optional choice.
Instead, it's easier to think of it as buying time with money!
3. Currency Exchange After Immigration

After clearing immigration, you'll find about three currency exchange counters right in front of you.
Although I planned to use cards for most major expenses on my trip, I needed some cash, so I exchanged 200 USD.
Even after checking reviews on travel forums, while other destinations often advise against airport exchanges, Phu Quoc's airport rates are reportedly decent. Since it wasn't a huge amount, I decided to just exchange it at the airport.

They advertised NO FEE.
Some places display their rates on a board, but all three counters offered the same rate.
Both Korean Won and US Dollars can be exchanged.
After that, I didn't do any additional currency exchange in the city.
I simply used my card wherever it was accepted.

If you prefer to exchange money in the city rather than at Phu Quoc Airport, just exchange a small amount at the airport for immediate needs and do the rest in the city.
4. Is Fast Track Really Necessary?

When arriving, I'd recommend it if multiple flights are landing at the same time, or if you're traveling with children or elderly parents.
However, if it's just adults and only one flight is arriving, I don't think it's particularly necessary.
For departures, hardly anyone uses it, and when I departed, I realized it wasn't really necessary.
That's because people arrive sequentially after checking their luggage, so it doesn't get overwhelmingly crowded.
That's not to say there was no wait at all, though.

In my case, I had taken a 5 AM flight and was incredibly, incredibly tired. I didn't think I'd have the patience to deal with a child's fatigue and grumpiness while waiting in line, so I applied for it. And even now, I think it was a great decision.
Oh, and as I mentioned above, your luggage won't necessarily come out faster, so you might still have to wait for your bags!
However, waiting for bags at the carousel felt better than standing in line for immigration, as you can often find a place to sit down while you wait.
Checking your flight schedule for the day you're traveling and then deciding is also a great approach!
