Since I was short on time, I decided to focus entirely on taking the Peak Tram up to Sky Terrace 428. Honestly, the sweeping panoramic views of the illuminated harbor completely blew me away.
Because Sky Terrace 428 is perched right at the top of Victoria Peak, taking the historic Peak Tram is half the fun. You will definitely want to secure your combo tickets in advance.
How to Get to the Peak Tram Lower Terminus

To reach Sky Terrace 428, you will first need to make your way to the main Peak Tram boarding station.
I was worried it might be confusing, but this route turned out to be incredibly straightforward:
Take the MTR to Central Station, walk towards Pedder Street, hop on a classic double-decker bus, and get off at either Bank Street or Murray Road.
The signage along the streets is massive, and station staff are everywhere to point you in the right direction, so you won't get lost.
Once you arrive, you just scan your pre-booked digital ticket and head up the escalators to the boarding platform.
Even though the lines can look intimidating, the tram holds a lot of passengers and moves quickly. I managed to board right on my planned schedule.
Keep in mind that you don’t need to reserve a hyper-specific departure time slot. It operates on a rolling basis.
However, because sunset and early evening are the peak hours, I highly recommend arriving a bit early. Here was my exact timeline during a mid-December visit:
5:00 PM: Arrived at the station queue
5:25 PM: Scanned QR code to enter the boarding area
5:40 PM: Boarded the Peak Tram
6:00 PM: Arrived at Victoria Peak
This timing was absolutely perfect for catching the transition from twilight to the glittering night skyline.
Pro-Tips for Riding the Peak Tram
Once you scan your QR code and step inside, the crowd dynamics can get a little confusing. The first puzzle I encountered was the split queue lines.
You will see people dividing into a left lane and a right lane as they head up the escalators.
Don't stress over this: both lanes merge back into the exact same boarding platform.
They both lead to the Victoria Peak tram. Just pick whichever side has the shorter line to save yourself some standing time.
The real strategy comes into play once you actually step onto the tram car!
The seat you choose entirely dictates what kind of views you'll get on the journey.
The views from the two sides are completely different. Having ridden it both ways, here is the golden rule:
On the way up (ascent), sit on the RIGHT side.
On the way down (descent), sit on the LEFT side.
Sitting on the right side during the climb gives you an incredible, gravity-defying perspective of the skyscrapers leaning dramatically as you ascend the steep mountain tracks.
