Hong Kong Peak Tram Guide: Tickets, Sky Terrace & Fast Pass Tips
Words & Photos by Global Explorer
Hey explorers! ˗ˋˏ❤︎ˎˊ˗
When planning a trip to Hong Kong—with its dazzling skyscrapers and iconic red taxis—there is one experience you absolutely cannot miss.
That is riding the Peak Tram, a historic funicular railway with over a century of history, up to the legendary Victoria Peak.

It's famous for its breathtaking night views, but I visited during the day. Thanks to the gorgeous weather, the daytime views were just as spectacular! .ᐟ.ᐟ
Because it's such a popular attraction, many travelers worry about long wait times.
Let me share my recent experience, along with ticket booking tips and a review of the incredible Sky Terrace 428 observation deck.
01. Hong Kong Peak Tram: Booking & Prices

The Peak Tram, a true symbol of Hong Kong, was recently upgraded to its 6th-generation model, offering a much sleeker and more comfortable ride.

A standard round-trip ticket costs 116 HKD .ᐟ
However, if you try to buy tickets on-site, you'll have to wait in a separate line just for the ticket booth.
Time is money when you're traveling, and wasting it in a ticket line is the last thing you want to do! ㅠㅠ

That's why I highly recommend booking your tickets online before you go.
Not only is it cheaper than the walk-up rate, but you also receive a QR code instantly upon payment.
When you arrive, you simply scan it at the turnstile and walk right in.

Skipping the hassle of exchanging physical tickets and breezing through with just your smartphone is a massive advantage. ₍ᐢᐢ₎

On the way from the tram drop-off to the observation deck, you'll walk through a mall-like area filled with souvenir shops, restaurants, and cafes. 〰️
It's a great spot to browse—I actually found the cutest magnet of my entire trip right here!
02. Is the Ruby Pass Really Necessary?

If you've researched the Peak Tram, you've probably heard of the Ruby Pass, which acts as a priority fast-track ticket.
Back in the day, when tourist crowds were overwhelming, this was an absolute must-have to drastically cut down your wait time.

However, travel patterns have shifted a bit. During my visit in 2026, I honestly felt that the Ruby Pass wasn't entirely necessary.

The regular reservation line moves surprisingly fast, so a standard round-trip ticket will get you on board without much stress.
That being said, as I mentioned earlier, booking online in advance is still much better for your wallet and your sanity compared to paying full price at the on-site counter! .ᐟ

Save the money you would have spent on a Ruby Pass and treat yourself to an extra dessert at one of the cafes at the peak. It's a much smarter choice! ꒰ঌ ໒꒱ྀི
03. Sky Terrace 428 Observation Deck

Once you reach the top via the tram, you'll find Sky Terrace 428.
Sitting at 428 meters (~1,404 feet) above sea level, it is undeniably the best vantage point in Hong Kong.
From up here, you can soak in a sweeping panoramic view of Victoria Harbour, Tsim Sha Tsui, and the dense skyscrapers of Central.

Admission to the Sky Terrace is separate from the Peak Tram ticket.
To save money, make sure to purchase a combo ticket that includes both the tram and the observation deck when you book online.

The standard price is 116 HKD for the round-trip tram + 80 HKD for the Sky Terrace.
That’s a total of 196 HKD, which is roughly ~$28.
However, I booked mine on Klook for just ~$23! .ᐟ
Other booking platforms were around ~$25, so Klook was definitely the most budget-friendly option I found -

While there are free viewing spots around the peak, the sheer sense of openness you get from the very top at Sky Terrace 428 is simply unmatched.

A quick warning: because it's so high up, it gets incredibly windy! . .
Haha, my long hair was flying everywhere ㅠ
If you have long hair, definitely tie it up if you want to salvage your photos! .ᐟ

Enjoy a romantic and unforgettable time at Victoria Peak! ꒰𖤐꒱
