How to Book Palais Garnier Tickets
Inside Tour & Essential Tips
Famous as the legendary setting for 'The Phantom of the Opera',
I finally visited the breathtaking Palais Garnier in Paris!
Since this masterpiece is not included in the Paris Museum Pass,
I hesitated at first about adding it to my itinerary. But once inside,
the jaw-dropping architecture and endless photo spots
made it worth every single penny!

How to Book Your Tickets

Self-guided entry is available every 30 minutes
from 10:00 AM to 3:30 PM.
Crucial Tip: If there is a performance or rehearsal scheduled,
the main auditorium will be closed to visitors in the afternoon.
To guarantee you see the stage, I highly recommend booking a morning slot!

While prices fluctuate slightly with exchange rates,
Trip.com is currently offering the best deal,
which is where I secured my tickets.
On-site ticket lines can get incredibly long,
so booking online in advance is a massive time-saver.

After booking, you'll receive a mobile PDF ticket.
No printing required—just save the QR code to your phone
and scan it at the turnstile to walk straight in.

The moment you step into the grand lobby,
the soaring ceilings and dramatic lighting instantly take your breath away.
With its opulent gold accents and eerie elegance,
it's easy to see why this inspired the Phantom's gothic romance.
The Grand Staircase

There are three iconic photo spots inside Palais Garnier,
starting with the spectacular Grand Staircase (Grand Escalier).

The side steps of the staircase are surprisingly quiet.
If you wait just a minute or two, you can easily capture
a clean photo without crowds in the background!

For the main central stairs, expect crowds.
Your best bet is to frame a closer portrait shot to block out the background hustle.
Outfit Tip: Because the marble columns and balustrades are pure white,
avoid wearing beige or cream. Opt for stark black or vibrant jewel tones
to make your photos pop beautifully against the stone!
The Balcony

The balcony was easily the most crowded spot of all.
But looking down at the grand foyer and staircase below,
you genuinely feel like 19th-century royalty looking over high society!
The Grand Foyer

The Grand Foyer is the absolute crown jewel of Palais Garnier.
Every single inch of the walls and ceilings is covered in gold leaf,
illuminated by massive crystal chandeliers.

If you don't have time for a day trip to the Palace of Versailles,
visiting Palais Garnier is an incredible alternative.
Honestly, I found this room just as breathtaking as the Hall of Mirrors.

Since getting a completely empty shot here is nearly impossible,
I used Lightroom's AI Generative Remove tool to clean up the background later! 😉
The Auditorium

While the main auditorium is usually open to visitors,
I made the mistake of booking a 3:00 PM entry.
Due to an afternoon rehearsal, the doors were locked.
If seeing the majestic stage is a priority for you, go in the morning!
That way, you can look up and marvel at the famous ceiling
painted by Marc Chagall.

You can also view actual historical opera costumes used in past productions,

and browse beautiful performance-themed souvenirs at the gift shop on the first floor.
The entire tour took just under an hour.
If you appreciate lavish European architecture and historic grandeur,
I highly recommend adding Palais Garnier to your Paris bucket list! :)
