USJ 2026: Rent Power-Up Bands & Wands for a Savvy Trip!

As I was preparing for our family trip to Osaka,

if I had to pick the best decision I made,

it would definitely be renting Universal merchandise!

When you go to Universal Studios Japan,

you'll definitely want a Power-Up Band,

you'll want a Harry Potter wand,

and you'll even want to wear a Mario hat for photos, right?

But if you try to buy everything on-site,

the prices are really no joke.

Since I was traveling with two kids,

I looked into renting from the beginning,

and after coming back, I can confidently say that renting was the best choice!

If you buy a Power-Up Band, a wand, and a Mario hat,

How much will it cost?

Let's take a look at the Universal merchandise prices first.

These are based on USJ's official selling prices for 2026.

Even if you only buy one of each of these three items,

15,800 yen is roughly ~$112!

If you buy multiple items, including ones for your kids,

the cost of merchandise alone can become quite a burden, right?

Of course, there's joy in bringing them home and keeping them as souvenirs,

but honestly, after visiting Universal,

I wondered how often I'd really take them out again.

That's why I chose to rent from the start.

Able to prepare even right before the trip

Gimpo Airport Pickup

The place we used was Rental Gongryong (Rental Dinosaur).

We chose them because you can pick up the items at Gimpo Airport

and return them when you come back home.

After booking and paying online,

we received usage instructions via KakaoTalk.

We received guidance on everything from the pickup location to the return method,

so there was no need to contact them separately with questions.

Especially if your departure is soon

and you can't wait for courier delivery,

picking up directly at the airport seems like a great option.

However, if you're booking right before your departure,

it's best to first check the availability of the items you want and the pickup times.

Gimpo Airport Pickup Location: Arrivals, not Departures!

For those picking up at Gimpo Airport,

make sure you know this location.

It's at Gimpo International Airport, 1st Floor, Arrivals Level,

right in front of Gate 1,

at the 'Baggage Total Service' counter.

Remember, it's the 1st Floor Arrivals Level, not the Departures Level!

It was also easy to find since it's right in front of Gate 1.

We picked up our rental items here

before heading up to board our flight.

When I told the staff member our reservation name,

they immediately handed over the prepared items.

No complicated procedures, just say the name and you're done!

Since we had to manage the kids, a stroller, and luggage,

I was worried it would take a long time,

but it was much simpler than I expected.

When taking photos at Universal

It really makes a difference!

Finally, Universal Studios Japan!

The items we rented were a Power-Up Band,

a Harry Potter wand, and a Mario hat.

In Super Nintendo World,

we took photos wearing the Mario hats,

and it really changed the whole vibe of the pictures!

With the colorful Mario World background and

even a hat, the photos turned out even cuter!

The Power-Up Band isn't just a decoration;

it's an item you use in Nintendo World to collect coins

and participate in key challenges.

Knowing the kids could actively participate and play with it,

I was really glad we prepared it beforehand!

Even in the Harry Potter section, the wand played a significant role.

Kids walking around Hogsmeade with their wands,

posing like wizards and witches against the backdrop of the street,

and we captured so many photos!

By the way, if you want to experience magic

in the Harry Potter section,

you need to make sure it's a Magical Wand with a sensor.

When renting, it's a good idea to check if it's just for photos

or if it's actually an item that allows for interactive experiences.

But we still ended up buying headbands!

Just because we rented props doesn't mean

we didn't buy any souvenirs.

When you go to Universal, there are so many cute goods!

We eventually bought character headbands for the kids.

However, even just one headband

cost around ~$22.

If buying just a few headbands costs this much,

it would have been truly staggering if we'd bought

Power-Up Bands, wands, and hats for everyone!

Renting the props we planned to use beforehand

and then letting the kids pick out one souvenir they liked on site

turned out to be a great idea.

Returning at Gimpo Airport after our trip was

incredibly simple!

After our trip, once we arrived at Gimpo Airport,

we headed back to the baggage total service counter where we originally picked up the items.

Returning them was even simpler!

I just handed the items over to the staff member, and that was it!

There's also a convenient option to rent by

delivery right to your home.

We used Gimpo Airport and picked up our rentals directly from Rental Kongryong,

but there's also a rental option where you can receive and return items

by delivery right to your home, without needing to stop by the airport.

Especially if your travel schedule allows,

it's great to receive the items at home before departure,

check their contents and condition, and then pack them up.

After returning home,

you can simply return them via parcel delivery as instructed.

so it's best to book with plenty of lead time to match your departure date.
